Baseline of 26 man senior squad. Assuming we can stay up.
This would need 7 new signings, convincing Close, Maxwell, Westbrooke, Faulkner and Nixon to sign new terms, and being able to move on Anderson and Olowu, and one of Jones or Lawlor, who are all contracted. Rest of current squad would be out of contract and are probably not going to get new terms anyhow.

Nixon belongs to Hull doesn’t he?? Not sure if he is out of contract or not come the summer.
-
He is out of contract in the summer.
-
Nixon is a talented young player. He’d be mad to sign for us.

I'd let close go no fight

Anyone whose contract is up can go. Keep Faulkner only out of that lot. Anderson contract terminated.
Sign a senior centre half.
3 proper centre midfielders who have played at this level or if we can stretch higher.
2 new wingers.
Left back
Right back
2 forwards
Keeper
Important that they are players McCann can use. I’m convinced most of our summer signings were a done deal before McCann joined. Maybe he said yes to them after the club said this is where we are at. So he has some responsibility but certainly can’t see them been players he was going out and choosing.
This summer the prerequisite is have they played at this level or above and can they mix it physically. Don’t want to hear anything about good characters or knows the area tell me what they do on the pitch.

We cannot just terminate the contract of a player without good reason, and being a mainstay of a horror show of a defensive unit is not (legally) a good reason. Anderson will be a high earner for us, so we cannot pay him off either.

id agree with most of that. Apart from Sotona, Hurst, Close and the keepers. Obviously we’re stuck with those still in contract and not guaranteed to get the others out of contract to sign. But that would be an alright baseline of a squad to start. Then add some proper quality to it.

If we had a 26 man permanent squad, we would only need to add 1-2 loanees.

You transfer list him in the hope we get 30k or you let him go on a free.

Would be happy if the rest left the club and wouldn't cry if the manager followed.

It has to be a 100% must. He's undoubtedly one of the more talented players in the team but we need to develop a squad around a better, more combative, bigger, faster, control-the-game central midfielder. Whenever we've been good, we've had a great central midfield(er) - Wellens, Stock, Whiteman. It starts from there.
