With the likelihood of Close missing long term in addition to Westbrooke, the question has to be do we have enough of a midfield engine to see us through to the end of the season with Broadbent, Biggins, Rowe, Craig and likely Bailey. Or do we need to bring in a short term replacement play maker - there’s got to be someone out there available from the free agents market and before I get slated for saying all free agents are crap & are free agents for a reason. Remember Johnny Bostock was on the scrap heap before Darren got him in.

Not sure I’d be overly keen on a free agent who’s been without a club all season. If we get someone they need to make an impact quickly not take a couple of months to get match fit.
We’re going to struggle to get anything other than a loanee like Craig in our position imo

We were weak in midfield before injuries, we could have done with a plauer like Lakin short term, just hope Westbrook isn't far away, he's been a massive miss for us. To answer the question, no I don't think we have anywhere near strength in midfield to finish the season with, it shouldn't be that diificult to find a player that can improve us. Failing that, I would give Nixon a go there, has energy, fitness, tenacity, & loves a tackle, can't be any worse than what we currently have.

What about Jamie Hopcutt,31 year old, been playing in Sweden for Ostersunds. 188 appearances, 46 goals for Ostersunds, released in this window, ex Oldham player. Can play anywhere in midfield, best position attacking central midfielder. Exciting player to watch, very creative, runs at players with the ball. Good passer of a ball, would be a great signing.
