Player of the season. Never stops, even when things are going against him. We get the right players in, he will be as good as Marquis was with us

Must be horrible to play against.

His hold up play was exemplary today.

Their no.6 who was man marking had half a shirt by the end of the game. But they showed respect to eachother at the final whistle.

Proper footy.

Not sure what he has to do to get a free kick, ref gave him nothing all game, and then the lino chipped in and gave him offside when he was a yard onside

I think refs have a preconceived idea that he will always back in and foul first.
He is becoming one of the legends.

We did.

If he gets to 20 this season this will be big achievement on par with Colin Cramb’s 20 in another shit season.

I wonder if Miller had stayed fit for the season, the partnership they could have had. I know on the whole we’ve played with a three up there. Miller/Ironside/A winger would have been a decent threat at this level.

If he does come back, I doubt he will be the same player. He will have not kicked a ball for 18 months. That’s a big hit.

13 League goals in 29 games. He missed 1 league game i think out of the 30 played so far.

17 goals in all competitions think it is he has now.

Quite simply a brilliant signing and this guy is every bit as good as John Marquis imo.
In fact his hold up play is better than JM’s
Possibly not quite as good a finisher on the deck in the penalty box but then Joe Ironside hasn’t had as much decent service in this team as JM had in the Rovers teams he played in.

The problem Joe has is that he gives as much as he gets. We scream for a foul when Joe has been pulling and backing into the opposing player. Having said that he gets more awarded against him than he actually gets, not to mention the "play on" decisions when we want the foul.
My texts to my wife when he scores The warrior 1-0 and she knows who

Post by: Pancho Regan on February 10, 2024, 10:09:51 pm
Absolutely brilliant, what a warrior this guy is.

He’s just what this team needs, a real ‘mester’ to mix it with the opposition’s defence and a player who gives 100% every game.

This might sound daft but I said to our kid at the end of the game that Joe is one of our best defenders. Put the ball up to him when we’re under pressure and he will bust a gut to take it, hold it, shield it and give time for team mates to come up to support.

Love the guy, hope he gets a few more goals yet this season (especially from open play)

 ;)

Adore the bloke. What a performance.

Have you ever seen a striker fouled so much and get so little?

Some incredible decisions by the referee but my god does Joe put a shift in.

He's committed 62 fouls (the most in L2) and drawn 40 fouls.

I’d say Marquis was a bit quicker and more of a poacher.

Btw Joe only needs 2 more goals to beat his football league goal tally for a season. Currently ahead of Andy Cook as well.

Ironside with his penalty against Sutton last week has just edged ahead of the GOAT for now:

Michael McIndoe took 16 for us, scored 13 and missed 3. Success rate of 81pc.

Ironside has taken 6 for us, scored 5 and missed 1. Success rate of 83pc.

Amazing numbers but that is the number of fouls awarded, not necessarily the number of times Ironside has been fouled (or even committed a foul).
Without a doubt, yesterday for instance, he was “fouled” at least a dozen times but only won one free kick.
There was one in particular when their defender had both arms round him and pulled him to the ground.
Guess what, no foul given.
Those figures are as misleading as not counting a goal bound shot as on target when it is blocked by a defender.

Pretty sure Stock took more than Ironside has (7 or 8) and didn’t miss a single one. That’s record will be hard to beat.

He took 7 for us and missed 0. In fact, despite that record, he didn't take a penalty for any other club.

It's arguably as good as McIndoe. It was the sheer volume of penalties that McIndoe took and the very high success rate he kept up. He took twice as many as Stock but only played 2/3 of the games that Stock played for us.

Certainly we were blessed with two very good penalty takers during the 2000s.

Yes, another good one. 8 penalties for us and 1 miss, success rate of 87pc.

The one he missed was an odd one. At home to Swansea City in our first Championship season. Heffernan came on for Lewis Guy in the 81st minute. Missed the penalty in the 87th minute. Never took a penalty again for us.

Stock had been subbed in the 73rd minute of that game. Finished 0-0.

Joe Ironside
So kicked running over the green

Oh, Joe Ironside

Far has he traveled and much has he seen

Past all defenders, this strikers on fire
As he carries us home does our Joe Ironside

He’s been one of the few success stories this season. A shame we haven’t seen him and Miller play together much, that could have been a good partnership. I don’t know how long he has left on his contract, but for me he is worth an extension. If we stay up, then he is definitely capable with the right partner of scoring goals again next season. Forme he has the capabilities to score in the league above, never mind in this league.

You have to be looking in another six months at extending that. At the minute he probably wouldn’t want to extend until he knows where we are going to be. Nobody saw the situation we are in at the start of the season.

He’s already 30. He will be 32 when his current deal expires. Ironside is a very good player for us but as we saw with Rowe, the drop off can be quite stark. His current deal is good for us.

That would be nice and easy.
