One of the very best of a bunch of radio legends, his appeal crossed the generations.

Came across as a real genuine bloke, which was a change from the usual norm in that field. RIP

He was the perfect ‘ringmaster’ in what was known as ‘zoo studio’ radio.

A genius who worked tirelessly to ensure his show’s appeared to be happening ‘off the cuff’.

He’ll be mightily missed by many after 4 decades on the wireless.

Condolences to his family whose loss appears to have come so suddenly.

Apparently Morrisey and Johnny Marr were listening to Steve Wright when news of Chernobyl broke .Wrighty's response was to play a Wham record. This inspired them to write the song with the choir singing hang the DJ at the end.Wrighty was a sport though because when the band printed some T shirts he brought one!
