Not sure if people have seen but Doncaster City, Willie McKay's lot have signed Wes Hoolahan, Ross McCormack and Charlie Mulgrew on short term deals yesterday. They play top of the league Dearne and District today, with all 3 starting.
-
I hope dearne win the league.
Can't stand McKays weird vanity/dodgy project.

Embarrassing! Hope everyone in the Dearne valley shows up and gives them hell!
-
Rumour has it Mulgrew is getting £3000 for one game. Not sure what the point of it is, they forgot to apply for promotion so they can’t go up anyway.
-
Weirdos they are.

Laughable.

I was hoping the Netto brigade would gravitate there. A match made in heaven I’d have thought.

You might not like them (Netto brigade) but was City created in part to destabilise Rovers even more and try and take some of our support?
The Rovers hierarchy need to be aware of this potential situation and get us back challenging.

I’ve no idea why Doncaster City were set up. And yes, I don’t like the Netto mob. All six of them.
But you’re right. Get Rovers rolling in the right direction and mcKay’s vanity project or whatever it is becomes irrelevant and the Netto crew put their banners away.
-
Won 3-1 with all the new signings in the starting line up. Crowd was 844 which seems a decent size for that level.
-
Really can’t get my head around why they exist
-
Plus the arrogance in their social media posts is sometimes off charts. Tiny stupid little club but I can't stand them already.
-

wow, that is a good crowd. Im interested in seeing where they draw their support from, im guessing the mongy leeds and wendy fans from donny.

I believe they were 1-0 down when their new signings went off.

That's hilarious if they spent crazy sums on them and didn't even need them.

Apparently they support the regime but not the team.
-
I would say it has to be a worry that they have managed to draw that many fans.
DRFC has to do what ever it can feasibly do to prevent the dodgy ones poke in the rovers eye, from succeeding!
-
Not being able to get a ticket for the Rovers, I went today, name sort of gives away who I was supporting. Most of the crowd were from the Dearne. As to the four ex professionals who were signed to play the Dearne today they were reportedly payed £3k each, to put that into perspective the Dearne players get £200. That’s the first defeat of the season for Dearne and if they go unbeaten in the remaining games they will win the league.

Maybe Leeds fans
-
I’ve had a look at this league and there’s some very local derbies Harworth Col, AFC Bentley and Rossington Main RESERVES, it’s step 11 of the football pyramid. I just think it’s another of McKay’s pie in the ideas, remember that sports village he was going to build at Bawtry, it was supposed to going to be a rival to Bisham Abbey

Did the ex-pros look much better than the other lads?
-
McCormack looked like he’d been sponsored by Gregg’s. Mulgrew looked good but didn’t know the others were on the pitch. Dearne should have been out of sight in the first half but for poor finishing. Went 1 up against the run of play to be fair. No idea why the Dearne manager didn’t make subs until they were losing.
-
According to Dearne District they was taking around 200 fans
-
Absolute morons. Going to be ace when they stay in the same league this year hahahaha. Worst place as well to try and get a 2 team city when us (Rovers) are already outnumbered in our own city by Leeds Wednesday Liverpool Man Utd etc
-
Willy Wonka’s chocolate eleven. There has to be a money angle to this.
-
According to Dearne District they was taking around 200 fans
There were more than that, in fact there were more Dearne than Donny
-
Just seen the highlights. Seem to be Dearne fans in one section near the entrance. Seem's pretty even to me.
-

I'm not saying you're wrong, DVR, but that would suggest about 500 from Dearne. If so, that would be astounding for an 11th tier team, even at home let alone away.
I watched Frickley on and off for years in the Northern Premier League, and whilst they got decent crowds in FA Cup games, they rarely got above 200 or so for league games.
-
There might have been Wellie fans there as well as other neutrals.
-
The Dearne is quite a large area and people around there are supportive, the owner wants them to be in L2 in 10 years, lots of youngsters and youth teams too. I live about 10 minutes walk from the ground. It was an enjoyable afternoon especially as my phone kept pinging with Rovers goals
-

Definitely Wellie fans there

If Dearne get promoted, they'll probably be playing Wellie next season.
-
Hope so
-
Who are Wellie? Is that Armthorpe Welfare?
Excuse my ignorance.
If that crowd is correct and even 50% were Dearne supporters, that is 400 fans supporting Donny City.
I find that quite amazing to be honest.
My second team is Steeton FC, my local team.
I think they are level 10 in the pyramid. They average 100 attendance at home games.
844 at Doncaster City is incredible by comparison.
I’m puzzled.

Yeah, they currently play at Armthorpe's ground.

I've looked all over for the highlights. The only ones coming up are the highlights of the first game between the teams at Dearne in August.
Any pointers?

Thanks, WR. I enjoyed it. The crowd running on the pitch was hilarious.

Are they sponsored by Pukka...?

Sometimes you don’t have to build what you say you’re going to build to realise value in something that might have been pretty much worthless before you announced your plans.
But sometimes it doesn’t change anything either.
If you see what I mean.

They're still planning on building it, aren't they?

Mulgrew 37,Hoolahan 41and MCCormak 37, aye aye Willie MCKay!
-
The latter was close to 37 stone

Seems like it’s all geared to make the land more valuable to me

Hmm wicked Willie wants the Council to engage!
-
I bet Hoolahan could still do a job in League Two now, even at 41. Unbelievable player.
-
Unlikely. He last played a professional game in April 2022.

Hardly noticeable to be honest

They have put up the proper highlights now

Never seen so many pitch invasions. Sad to see McCormack playing in that shape, shouldn’t have gone on the pitch, couldn’t do himself justice. Hoolihan you could see still had the first touch and time on the ball. Dearne looked a good side, but ran out of steam. The pitch was terrible. Nice to see all the enthusiasm for the game from the supporters.
-
Wouldn't feel sorry for mcormack, if the rumours are true, he pocketed £3k for his appearance

All 4 of the ex pros did, that’s how scared they were of not getting the win
-
A bit of an experiment then.
-
Can see them in the national league sooner or later

They’re in Step 11 now I doubt it they’ll get as far as Step 8, perhaps it’s not all about football
-
Cant believe I have sat and watched them.
I dont know what I was expecting but they are absolutely shite!

They forgot to apply for promotion? Didn’t know that was a thing
-
There's no evidence anywhere that DC have forgotten to apply for promotion.
All the articles on last Saturday's game state that the aim this season for DC is promotion to the Northern Counties East League Division One.
-

Yes there is (https://www.nwcfl.com/news-articles.php?id=9324)
Well, they've either forgotten to or chosen not to.

That team is full of lager than life characters.

They’ll be hoping for a Stella season.
-
They’ll be hop-ing for a Stella season.
Put that right for you Jonathan.
:)
-
Do they have a club shop that sells shorts?
-
I wonder if they have a lucky pint section on their fans forum.
-
what i cant understand is that if you are a footy fan, why you would snub the rovers, and go and watch a team that is not much above sunday pub league? With the best will in the world, there is a limit to how far such a club can travel up the divisions.. currently tier 11, im sure they will have a few promotions, but i doubt they will be challenging national league sides any time soon?
-
Seems like it’s all geared to make the land more valuable to me
As soon as it has Planning Approval its value will increase massively, McKay will sell it, make a huge profit & drop Doncaster City like a stone!

Good point, WR. Well at least Donny Utd had a young star on the way up(Rod Belfitt), rather than 3 old fat has beens.

Affects Armthorpe Welfare as well as some were used behind the bar.
-
Wonder where they came from? The irony is not lost on me.
-
I remember a few (a long) time ago when there was a big surge in forged £20 notes.
My own business was caught out a couple of times with them.
It hurts.
There were stories around about someone in Askern who was selling forged £20 notes for a fiver each.
The current notes are supposedly much harder to forge but it seems that bridge has now been crossed.
I feel for AWFC as they will feel this hit on them.
-
I remember the Rovers at Belle Vue many years ago saying that they wouldn’t accept large notes ( I can’t remember if it was £10 or £20 notes) due to getting a number of forgeries on the gate.
At least cashless turnstiles and season tickets gets rid of that problem.
