After yet another sheff Utd hammering last night I saw a comment on X about how depressing football currently is in South Yorkshire.
Sheff Utd - getting hammered every week even at home
Sheff Wed - Started off so poorly and didn’t win for a long time
Rotherham - Currently around 19 points adrift of safety
Doncaster - Currently a few places above the relegation zone to the national league.
Whilst ourselves and sheff Wed have picked up a bit, football heaven especially has been a depressive listen these days and it made me think when was the last time that a lot of regions clubs all had bad seasons at the same time?
Barnsley are the only decent one this year

Add Frickley to that, Fal. Runners up in the 5th tier in the 80s, now halfway down the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

They are definitely not in South Yorkshire, but Radio Sheffield covers them equally and some folk take them as South Yorkshire - Chesterfield are storming away to the National League title. With 10 games to go they are 17 points clear and have a game in hand on second placed Barnet. They are scoring on average 2.5 goals a game and should easily breach 100 goals for the season.

I was going to to include them since football heaven cover them but when I titled it South Yorkshire football I am sure some clever sod would’ve come in here and pointed out that Chesterfield isn’t in South Yorkshire!

Recent form hasn't been great for Chesterfield but they did enough to get themselves into a commanding lead.

Well, South Yorkshire football as you say is in a right mess in’t it

Not sure it's the football, but some of the people that follow it who are only too happy to vent their dour demeanour on the radio and social media.
Blades are in the top tier. Rotherham and Sheff Wed are in the Championship, just where all want to be after celebrating their recent promotions. Barnsley are having a good season. We're on the rise from a slump.
Learning to deal with the lows and celebrate the highs are all part of football but it seems some folk are ifinding it harder to deal with losing. The league they find their teams in seems irrelevant really.
It's like some folk revel in doom. "It’s only a matter of time before we'll be in the sh^t again, and I'll be here to remind you of that. This winning malarkey is only temporary to please the happy clappers!"
Every club has them but maybe South Yorks has more??
Anyway, let's get to Sal for a pint!
