I'd suggest so.
Given the quality of the opponents and the disruption of the injuries during the match.
Solid at the back. Hard working in midfield. Quality from the wingers. Excellent hold up play by both forwards.
Tactically spot on first half. Kept their heads second half.
Excellent all round.

First time Crewe has conceded twice away on road in league since December.
-
Thought we played better at Bradford than today.
It was very scrappy for most of the match today. We dug in, got the goals and kept Crewe at bay.
MK Dons at home and Grimsby away best 2 performances but we are learning how to win games that we don’t have the lions share of possession as today.
That’s a good sign. The team is full of grit, determination and desire.
A winning mentality is now in this squad.
This bodes well for next season.

The flat track bullies at it again.

I was panicking with our HT subs and the way they started the second half.
I thought it was only a matter of time before they got through.
Think our second definitely knocked the stuffing out of them.
Thought they looked a handy team but they didn’t really test us.

Was saying exactly this at the match today. Really, really good performance.

Thought that Big Tom was again outstanding today.

the entire defense was solid today regardless of personnel changes..

Getting that solidity in the key defensive roles, central defenders and crucially a proper goal keeper has provided the base from which to build the rest of the team. If we’d had a competent goal keeper in the first half of the season, rather than one who put every defender on the edge, we would have been in a position to make a run for the play-offs. There is no room for sentiment when it comes to “player development”. Some players will never develop adequately and we can’t afford to indulge them.
-
When we got to 2-0 I was hoping we wouldn’t sit back and try to defend the lead, but we didn’t and we were going in search of a third.
Still sending Wood and Anderson forward for free kicks and corners etc.
Great to see.

But but but we can’t beat anyone any good, Crewe were 14th at the end of august, wait until the bigger tests come.

Team performance today, looked a good, solid side.
We need to keep the core team together and build from it.

Agree with this. They were organised, aggressive and cohesive. Good saves from keeper when needed, but wasn't left exposed. Set piece defending was superb. Bullied their lads.

The flat track bullies at it again.
I thought this term meant only beating lesser teams who you were expected to beat? Not really applicable to crewe?

He's having a pop at me for (correctly) pointing out that as of a few weeks ago we had won the vast majority of our points against teams who weren't among the best in the division.
Takes all sorts, dunt it?
Me, I'm revelling in the performance today.
-
Excellent performance today and Timmy and the defence deserved a clean sheet

gotcha... I'll quietly step back from the convo.. ;-)

Important goals at important times set the tone today, I wouldn’t say it was the best preformance on the eye, but determination to grind out the result was second to none.

Camps, you're not making allowances for the quality of opponents. Grimsby are absolutely shite, and I don't rate Bradford that highly. MK Dons are fairly decent, but Crewe are a top 4 side, and today we beat them by 2 goals and kept a clean sheet.
Performance and result of the season by a country mile.

Goes back to my question as to where were teams when we played them
Billy pants down
Edit just seen your post acknowledging it, well done

A really good performance today.
To lose both full backs before half time is a real blow, but it is testament to the improved strength of the squad that we were able to sustain that setback and still go on to win the game. Tommy and Joseph filled the full back positions very competently and our overall defensive display was brilliant today.
Take a bow, once again, Tom and Woody.
Then two more (I assume enforced) substitutions at half time; I must say that worried me and I thought that Crewe’s resurgence in the first 15 minutes of the second half would result in an equaliser and maybe worse.
My fears were unfounded; we got that crucial second goal and had chances to add a third or even fourth. We didn’t sit back, we kept pressing and pushing forward when we could. Moly was superb in that regard, he was a bloody nuisance.
14 shots we had, with 9 on target!
We managed the game superbly and Crewe just ran out of ideas.
So many good performances today, well done to all of our lads.
-
Another cracking result & performance, really looking like a proper team now. Well done Rovers.

I don’t need to say anything,
I spend half my time arguing against overly negative folk. Funnily enough most of them have disappeared.

Fingers crossed that the injuries to Sterrey and Maxwell aren't too bad. I fear that Maxwell's might be a season-ender. He knew there was something badly wrong immediately cos he punched the turf in frustration.
-
He was excellent again was Maxwell, before he went off.
Problem he has is keeping going for a decent stretch. This season he played five games between 8 August and 2 September, then out for two months until 4 November. Then again five games between 4 November and 2 December, then out until 27 January. He's been on a good run of nine games since 27 January, so hopefully this isn't going to be another two month break.
Hope we have him on the list for a new deal, as he is out of contract in June.

the entire defense was solid today regardless of personnel changes..
I think Bailey growing in to the midfield role and the addition of Craig have really helped to shield the defence.
Selby was always right on Close.

McCann thinks it was precautionary

Great performance today undoubtedly but. Adelikun placed the ball a good 6 inches outside the quadrant for his goal and our 2nd looked very offside to me. I am not complaining though, it's about time things went our way.
-
Absolutely top effort today - made the journey well worthwhile
-
I have finally seen you win!
You were miiiiles better than when I came down last (October?)
Thought the striker in the second half was great but looked slightly rusty. He suits your play more as he's got the legs to press.
The wingers were fantastic, you've finally got a decent keeper, your centre backs are back and mostly dominated the Crewe lads. Thought you were most vulnerable on the right flank, seemed they had a plan to drop it in behind sterry.
The lad who scored the corner was fantastic, carries the ball effortlessly.
The improvement is unreal.

Yeah that six inches made all the difference!
And Rowey was onside, see the other thread.

He's obviously not the finished article but it is worth remembering that Thimothée Lo-Tutala only turned 21 last month. That's four years younger than Louis Jones and eight years younger than Ian Lawlor. He's mature beyond his years.

Wow, I didn’t know that.
That’s amazing, for some reason I assumed he was late twenties.

as 5th ranked keeper at Hull, surely timmy would love the chance to be one of the youngest permanent no. 1s next season? #SignHimUp

I also thought he was older than that. He has an authority that belies his age.

Exactly what I thought esp the 2nd Half "thought" after the injuries
I said to Raithy well it seems only a matter of time till you claw a Point back in Pv0 as he had Draw and I went for Win based on performances lately.
But we played well in most areas and got over the line
Only sickener was missing chance to get 3 as I bet on 3-0 and 3-2 but on a brighter note my Top Half Bet cash out went from £3 to more than £9 after the game

The teams got a good spine to it now, a good keeper , two solid centre backs & cm's with Ironside up top. If Wood carries on playing well until the end of the season can see him being offered an extension, I'm not against this but the only drawback is it's hampering the progress of Faulkner & McGrath perhaps?

Still revelling in yesterday’s performance. Anyone seen ‘in the box’
