Met her tonight at a Labour Party do in Bentley.
No wonder she's where she is.
What an inspirational, friendly down to earth, ordinary, exceptional woman she is.
Don't think I've ever met someone with such presence in my life.

It's alright talking about Bentley, I wonder what reception she'd have got in one of the poor areas of Donny?
-
She is a great achiever and managed all the setbacks, brickbats, false claims and misogyny.
Guess who said this: ''I would hope it wouldn’t be the witch that is Angela Raynor.
She WOULD be a dictator''
-
It just shows the casual abuse that women are forced to endure no matter their role in life.
-
Yes Syd.
She's one hell of a strong woman to rise above it and not be fazed by abuse from Boris et al.
-
Julia Gillard while PM had to suffer this shit too. It created a whole campaign around her of misogyny and abuse.
From a prominent right wing media personality:
''Alan Jones suggests throwing Julia Gillard "out to sea in a chaff bag"''
-
I shared a train carriage with her and her protection officer yesterday morning on the way back up from London. There were only about 5 of us in the entire carriage.
She takes six sugars in her coffee and has four laptops because she loses them when she's "really drunk". She's down to earth, I'll give her that.
-
It just shows the casual abuse that women are forced to endure no matter their role in life.
Syd, in life people get abuse.
It can be as hurtful for a man to get abused sometimes.
It doesn’t make it right though.
Who was it that called the Tory’s scum?
-
quick look over there
-
In my opinion she’s a ‘natural born’ leader for the Labour Party.

Hound, she mentioned a few things that she's had to put up with from some of those Tories, especially the mop headed former leader, so calling them scum is pretty mild in comparison imo.
No wonder she has a minder.
-
She ...... has four laptops because she loses them when she's "really drunk".
And you're IMPRESSED by that?!!
To me she sounds like: -
a) a complete moron
b) a major security risk
-
You've got your Tommy's mixed up.
The other one isn't.

And she apologised, whereas the little fella hasn't shown any remorse and tries to deflect.
-

Nope.
Tommy C feels that someone getting really drunk so seriously that they lose £100s worth of computer equipment and so regularly that they need 4 laptops just in case is "down to earth" - which I read as a complement for a senior politician.
I disagree.

What good would 4 laptops do if only one had data?
-
I think if you ask Tommy C he'll say it wasn't a compliment.
She was probably joking anyway.
-
That one
-
As a hard Working father I couldn't ever imagine voting in someone with socialist views like her.
It's about time someone stood up for the middle class.

Tommy, the way things are going I would think that all MPs will need a minder.
It isn’t great is it when they have mobs outside their front doors and when people are suggesting shooting them, not just high profile people suggesting it either. I have seen it on this forum.
As for Boris, well he did go OTT too often so invited criticism.
-
I don’t know what Raynor’s ambitions are, or how she’s seen within the Labour Party, but I’d much prefer to see her as leader than Starmer.

I think we would have heard about her excessive drinking if it were true!

Please tell me.

To be honest, I'm capable of separating the person from their views. I'd never vote for her but she actually came across as quite endearing and almost likeable in some ways. The laptop comment was said to her minder and it wasn't a joke. And before I get accused of ear-wigging (which I was) they were at the table right next to me so it was impossible not to hear. She also expressed dislike for "that journo Charlie Parker" who has been "pestering Mags again". I think Mags is possibly the next door neighbour in the Council House saga and Parker is definitely a Times columnist.
It was an interesting couple of hours!

Did you get her autograph?

No I thought about asking for a selfie though. Bottled it.
Plus, you wouldn't mess with the (female) minder.

There's this thing called "the cloud" Syd....
Nobody stores data on physical media anymore. Especially not sensitive data . That's why losing a laptop is no longer actually a big deal!

I saw her at the Labour hustings in Bristol. By far the best candidate over all, tho she was going for deputy at that point. It was too soon for her to be leader. It still is. She came across honest and personable.
My concern about her was after seeing her deal with the Palestinian who'd lost his family in Gaza in the meeting recently. Lost all respect for her. Don't know what's happening there bar poison from Starmer.

So we had a few big Labour Party hitters at the Bentley Pavilion! What was said about the Airport?

A tip for you TC, if hound ever 'likes' your post rethink it as you're more than likely wrong.

Syd, I only click the like on posts that I like pal.
I even click it on some of your leaders posts, have you noticed those as well.

Here he is, just woken up and looking for an argument over absolutely nothing as usual.
A tip for you Syd, anyone who gives a toss about "likes" needs to learn that there is actually an outside world.

Go figure.

Tommy, he rambles on like this all the time mate.
I’m sure he has nothing else to do and tries his fishing rod to get someone to converse with.
I doubt that he knows that Rovers just played today.

It's bizarre isn't it. I've conversed with him a few times over the years and it always goes this way irrespective of topic. I've actually been complimentary about Rayner!
Someone once told me "Never wrestle a pig in shit. Because you get covered in shit and the pig enjoys it."
I should have listened to that advice when it comes to this manchild.

If Labour ever get near government i can see Starmer quietly sidelining Raynor, don't think he'd be able to do it straight away but given time, it looks to me like Starmer can't stand the way she conducts herself.
He had her forced onto him with her election as deputy leader but i get the impression she's out of the loop and a loose cannon for the centre right of the party.
Not their kind of person. Not the impression that Starmer is trying to portray.

Maybe not, he did try it before as you would remember and was put in a position by the party to accept her back, since then they have shown to be a good team (polls) Why, if newly elected would you rock the boat in such a fashion without good reason.

So we had a few big Labour Party hitters at the Bentley Pavilion! What was said about the Airport?
Talk about "Big hitters" for the first time ever (apart from the St. Helens rugby match bottom 14 final ) I was in Bentley this week obviously where Coleman goes others follow in his shadow . I couldn't understand why Tattersfield hadn't been developed for housing
" I sent BB a cryptic message on Thursday night asking if he lived on route 66 ?. alas it fell on stony ground The 66 bus route seems to dominate Bentley along the Avenue etc
Sadly his geographical knowledge appears on a par with Akinfewa
moving on ...
we have this old headline in the Evening Standard

Labour's Angela Rayner 'doesn't go out' after 'scary' confrontation with protesters
so the question is where does she go for these alleged binges ?
and was she travelling first or second class

Since then, the party has shifted to the right, Starmer has asserted his power more - or his controllers have.
So far, she's pretty much complied. In power, I think we'll be hearing more lively, and real, words from her.

Certainly much easier on the eye than Starmer

He said on his campaign leaflet that the Labour Council had closed the Airport and that he was working hard to get it opened.
Utter barefaced lie, and it's Ros Jones and Oliver Coppard who are negotiating it's reopening.
Then he refused to retract it. Eventually he did I believe.

I listened to an interview with Angela Rayner by former Tory MP Rory Stewart a while back. She had one hell of an upbringing and really had it very tough as a child. She got into politics almost by accident having worked as a care worker and becoming a union rep.
She gave some interesting insight into what it was like in Jeremy Corbyns shadow cabinet (he found it very difficult to make any sort of decision to her immense frustration) and how Starmer is a very democratic but decisive decision maker.
She also shared some of the cross party work that she’s done with a couple of Tory MP’s to help some of her constituents.
All in all she comes across as a very competent and capable politician who, unlike other MP’s, has ‘real life’ experience.
She absolutely can’t abide Boris Johnson though.
-
Johnson was only interested in her legs.

No. Plucked it out of thin air.

I guess those getting excited about the Angela Raynor expose' (from a book) will be getting really really excited about the moral issue of Ester McVey.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/21/esther-mcvey-expenses-flat-philip-davies
-
Syd, the Guardian the article you quote clearly says that no rules have been broken.
If you want to discredited McVey you should do it with something appropriate.
-
But morally, Hound?
Silly me this lot from the top down don't care about morals
-
Morally, it's perfectly reasonable for McVey to get support for renting a flat. She needs a bolt hole to escape to when her father in law comes to visit. I wouldn't expose anyone to him.
Mind, if she's married to Philip Davies, maybe she's immune to t**ts.

Come on Raven. Politicians of all sides will be doing something like this.

I'm sure they will but as widespread and as blatant as this lot....... Ministers!!!

No, clearly not #allthesame in my view, that’s quite a lazy trope. Not meaning to trivialise this, but we are debating whether £1,500 Capital Gains Tax should have been paid on the 2015 sale of a former council house purchased under the popular Right to Buy scheme at the time the “accused” was a homecare worker and not an MP. The accused is also quoted as saying that if any tax is due she will pay the bill, but independent tax advice (which she did did not have at the time as a homecare worker - most of us don’t) has since determined it is not. This is not a tale of millionaires, billionaires and elites. If you believe it puts them all in the same bracket then it would perhaps be helpful to explain what the parallels are and why.

Very precise.
But if you look at my post I put a question mark after #allthesame.
I was simply posting something that I had seen on a news feed.
As there have been discussions about Raynor on here I thought it might be interesting to some people.
Also, the article I saw mentioned her having broken electoral rules but you didn’t mention anything about that. The police are now apparently investigating whether she lied about her address when registering to vote.

Feels like a total and utter non story to me. One of I expect millions of people (including myself) to have lived between properties at some point in their life and had to make a decision on which one to hold electoral registration at. A real waste of police time but looks like someone has invoked the second stage of a complaints process and here we are. I’ll be shocked if there is any change to the decision on this. At worst you’ll get a tax adviser that may take a different view of the CGT liability. If I was her, in a considerably wealthier position now than she would have been at the time, I’d donate the money to charity and close the book on it even though it’s not clear that there’s any liability. Although I’m sure the whatabouterry vultures would carry on asking their questions regardless.
As for me, I wish there were more senior political figures that had worked their way up to the position they now occupy. But the fact that she’s from a humble background and has worked in the care sector won’t stop the mysoginists dismissing her as a bit of rough or a bit of skirt.

Hound is being a little economical with the truth here.
1) The police aren't investigating Rayner. They made a decision NOT to investigate her case. The Deputy Chair of the Tory party has complained about that, and the police have asked a senior officer to review their decision not to investigate.
2) The reason the Tory party Deputy Chair complained is that a book has been published digging into Rayner's private life.
3) The book was written by Lord Ashcroft, the Tory supporting billionaire, said by the Times Rich List to be the 123rd Richest personal in the UK...
4)...Or IS he in the UK? Because he is a tax exile in Belize and the Turks and Caicos Islands, to shelter him from having to pay British tax. Which is all rather ironic if you think about it.
-
You think there'd be an outcry from the pearl clutchers about Ashcroft having left the country but sticking his oar in, aye?

Has he left the country though Syd.
I only ask because apparently he is being quoted as one of the wealthiest people in the UK.

I think it's fair to investigate it, if there's nothing there it'll be a pretty quick investigation. It's certainly valid.
Good to see the left embracing right to buy and making money out of property though.. I'm sure they'll reflect that in their policies.

Yes Angela Rayner has a lot to be grateful to the ‘Scumbag’ Tories For! She is obviously a person of very high principles and has a strict moral code Cough cough!

Its a good job she managed to get it bought and sold before this lot get their hands on the policy, oh wait!

Morally, it's perfectly reasonable for McVey to get support for renting a flat. She needs a bolt hole to escape to when her father in law comes to visit. I wouldn't expose anyone to him.
Mind, if she's married to Philip Davies, maybe she's immune to t**ts.
Sweet Lord up in f**king heaven.
Sunak has just given Davies a knighthood.
Presumably for services to "Being an utter Kitson".

Ah, the moral code of voting tory aye?

In a world where you have an infinite number of police officers who cost nothing, you can expect them to investigate every potential crime.
In the real world, the police have to prioritise their efforts, and make judgements on which cases are a) sufficiently important and b) sufficiently likely to have seen a crime commited.
GMP decided this one wasn't something that justified the use of their resources.
Now their resources are being used justifying this decision to a political follow up, inspired by the investigation of someone who has denied HMRC millions upon millions in taxes.
Also, if there were a clear case of tax evasion by Rayner, presumably HMRC would be after her?

Let’s say that if the allegations are unfounded the person that raised the issue pays any costs incurred. That would pay for any false accusations coming out of the public purse. Obviously if Angela Rayner is guilty she should pay costs. Unless like Boris she gets legal aid.

My thoughts entirely , Rayner who plays on the humble beginnings card bought her council house , if this was 1979 then fair enough when nobody knew how the selling off of council housing would have such a detrimental impact on the lower paid decades later .
Rayner bought her council house knowing full well what the impact was , she knew it would never be replaced on a sold one , build one basis and yet another council house leaves for the market and never to return to a family in desperate need of one .
Many people probably don't think this is a big issue but to me it is and goes right to the heart of the problems facing families on low incomes today .
Principles of a hyena .

Why can I not see some posts on this thread?

I'm posting this to see what happens. This thread for me ends at post 91, yet in the threads list there's 98 posts, ending with Filo's.
I don't know where the other 7 posts have gone.
