Title: Barnsley FC
Post by: Campsall rover on May 03, 2024, 05:49:10 pm
This one is for Tyke I suppose but open to all obviously.

Normally I would be wishing them the best of luck in the Play Off’s tonight but if Rovers do go up I really hope we will have a South Yorks mini league next season in
League 1
Barnsley, Rovers & Rotherham for the 1st time in a very long time.
Am I right in saying only 1 season since the mid 1970’s has that happened.

Just got a feeling that Bolton v Oxford will be the final at Wembley and for some reason I have an esp for Oxford. Although Bolton must be favourites on paper.

I am not making any predictions for League 2 but we all know who is going up don’t we?

Championship will be Leeds v Norwich final & yes I am going to predict Leeds will blow it again. So it’s Norwich for me.
Leeds have only ever won 2 games at Wembley both v Arsenal.

Lost to Liverpool 1965
FA cup final

Won v Arsenal 1968
League Cup final

Drew with Chelsea 1970
Won v Arsenal 1972
Lost to Sunderland 1973
All FA Cup finals

Lost to Aston Villa 1996
League Cup final

Lost to DRFC 2008
Lost to Watford 2013
Play off Finals

Don't really care. If we do the biz I want them both to stay down as they are both better away days than Oxford and Peterorough.

Peterborough is better than Bolton IMO. Quicker as well

Tykes look totally devoid of ideas up front, Cole looks bloody clueless, unless they change something up front they could play til midnight and not score. Bolton just gone 2 up with a penalty. Sorry Tyke I feel for you in this situation. Herbie having a quiet game as well.

I feel sorry for Barnsley. Sacking the manager who got them to the playoffs wasn’t the answer. A manager deserves respect in that position.

Have they got a new manager yet? Sounds like they’ve thrown away any chance they had tonight.

So bring on the mini-league.

Anyone else irritated that they get called ‘The Reds’ as if that is their official nickname and us and Rotherham play in other colours? Maybe just me!

One more and Bolton can (relatively) relax, stop the Dingles from scoring (not too difficult in recent weeks) and have a nice time for the home leg. Pity.

Never forgotten how Bolton completely neshed a match v Rovers because they thought they’d lose so just cancelled it…Bizarrely they got away with it. Barnsley, to me have always been our greatest rivals, since I started going in 1974/75. So they can stay put.
As for Peterborough, thought we’d got a really good hate relationship going with them a few years ago. Kieran Sadlier and the throw in was an event to warm your heart.
So it’s Oxford for me….

My head says it will be Bolton but I hope it will be Oxford as furthest away. But I fpjust have a feeling Oxford might do it this year. They keep getting close and Robinson is no longer their manager who keeps bottling it as does Fergie at Posh.
So yes let’s hope it’s Oxford that goes up.
Anyway unless we do the business it is irrelevant   We WILL  :)

1-2 now to Bolton so game on. Think they need an equaliser to give them serious hope.

What is that gate Silkscarf.  Was that the Southend gate, think it was.
I would very much doubt it because Crewe won’t bring as many as Southend.

Oakwell tonight. Just comparing us and them really.

13,081 was the Southend game.

13.081 for that Southend game.

That’s a poor gate for Barnsley in a play off. Notice Bolton have not filled the away end. All the bottom tier is empty.  I thought they would get 16/17.000 tonight.

Now 1-3 to Bolton. That should do it but Barnsley are better away than home at present.

They’ve lost their last four away league games in a row. Their current away form is terrible.

Blatant foul on the keeper for the third goal, Santos just backed into the keeper and bundled him into the nets. Shocking miss by the ref.

Their overall form is terrible. But in 2nd half of the season overall they have been good away CBcb

Allegedly Bolton sold there full allocation which was just 2163

Barnsley only gave Bolton 2,000 and thewy sold it within minutes.

Probably as expected by many of us , we were a busted flush weeks ago and I don't think many of us thought we'd be anywhere other than league one next season .

Get the first goal on Tuesday night and it could get interesting but the truth is we've been crap defensively all season and once the goals dried up we were always going to run in to trouble .

I'm not disappointed because it's just what I expected , it's the hope that kills you and I had none .

Very very poor season and we aren't very good at all , some awful players here at the moment and if they cleared the lot out it wouldn't be the worst decision .

Big job for whoever is daft enough to take this poison chalice on but without some proper funding they've next to no chance of getting out of this league anytime soon .

Sorry to hear that Tyke, we all know about disappointment on here! It makes the small bursts of success all the sweeter when they come, here's hoping! The silver lining is derby matches with Rotherham, Huddersfield and hopefully, Doncaster Rovers!!!!!!

Surely Barnsley just have to go all out attack now and try and get an early goal?  Nothing to lose.

The guy who scored two for Bolton looks a really good player.

Looked like a foul on the keeper for the third.

Agree and 2 questions

1 how the hell can Ref allow that

2 probably one for Barnsley Coaches , how or why did they let their keeper get taken out. There are usually all in wrestling matches trying to "take the keeper out" or "prevent the keeper being taken out"

Barnsley had a tough job at 1-2 but due to that goal now face a mammoth task at 1-3

I honestly think if we can get up this season we could have a right go next year with the momentum we will have. Outside of a few clubs, the standard doesn’t look much more than L2 and you could argue there’s been some much better teams in our league this season than a lot of the teams in L1.

Put it this way, I don’t think we’d be looking over our shoulder next season IF we get there.

Our club's have or are entering the play offs from two entirely different positions , Rovers fans can't wait to get it on after such an astonishing run of form whilst ourselves were actually dreading them .

I can't see any other outcome than Rovers winning at Wembley such is the momentum .

No need to wish you luck because you won't need it .

Why Tyke did BFC down their Manager when they did ? Apologies if you answered this elsewhere

Timing seemed odd as they could have left him in place and offed him if you didn't get up or let him go if early results didn't go your way if promoted ?

It’s been the worst quality league one we’ve ever been in, some truely shocking teams, and ours is one of them. We’ve some how allowed the most recent head coach, to abandon our philosophy of playing fast paced, attacking, high pressing, organised, energetic football, to adopt a we can’t really be bothered let’s just go through the motions approach. The footballs been boring, and very poor, the fitness levels have been shocking compared to what we’re used to, we’ve not looked like a team all season, no togetherness what so ever, disorganised, no commitment, no fight, we’ve just not been up for the challenge, and we’ve been very very lucky, in fact the clown in charge is probably the luckiest head coach we’ve ever had, the amount of games we’ve won which we shouldn’t have is absolutely laughable to be honest.
