Title: Déjà vu
Post by: Daniel_Smith on May 10, 2024, 10:58:37 pm
Another play-off semi final with Grant McCann at the helm ends with a penalty shoot-out loss.

Can't complain about how well we've played at tail end of season. But a big gut punch that.

Priority is holding on to Grant McCann, as feel he might have his head turned like last time around.

Have a uneasy feeling of déjà vu.

It's gonna be ok mate. We keep going

What makes you think he'll be going? There's no indication anyone has come in for him and he's seemingly been backed well by the board.

I'm confident he'll be around next season and we'll go up.

Big crowd, sky tv and we literally don’t turn up.

And breathe…

Then breathe again and remember that we were 20th in the league literally weeks ago, playing the worst football we have seen in years, before Grants instructions finally registered in the grey matter of our squad.

What a ride, what an effort to get here. Yes it’s gutting, devastating even, but I for one, will NEVER forget this season.

You've ruined your own thread by spouting untrue b*llocks.

You think he's staying then. I do hope so. But as I said, getting that feeling of history repeating itself.

We just didn’t turn up first half.

Then when they were clearly playing for pens, we didn’t do enough to try and win it.

We were poor and I thought they were decent.

Gutted.

Forget all the nonsense, we just didn’t do enough to win. That’s sport.

Fair play to crewe. They did what the bookies thought was near on impossible. Sad it’s all over, loved the last 3 months but I just knew when it went to penalties.

Well done lads. You’ve given the town our club back and you should be immensely proud of that

Why would a club aiming for the premier league get a manager who was sacked by Peterborough in League 1? Nonsense.

If I wake up to "I got you babe" playing out my clock radio then it's definitely happening!

Here we go again , it’s a wonder that any player or manager sticks around for too long given another unsubstantiated bit of nonsense from a supporter. Don’t start negging everyone out please ……the game was more than enough

I very much doubt Grant McCann is going anywhere. Once bitten and all that. Anyway, Sunderland are an absolute basket case of a club.

I left Charlton thinking we had won, despite the outcome. Tonight felt totally different. For all the unbelievable performances of the last few months, that felt like we hadn’t done ourselves justice at all. That’s way more disappointing.

Imagine if they did. Club that size probably triples his wages overnight.

Fully agree with this.

I would think that any L2 manager would be pretty tempted if Sunderland came knocking, no matter what the circumstances.

William Still is 1/3 on Oddschecker. McCann 33/1with plenty of other names in front of him.

Ultimately GM has failed to get us promoted twice. Sacked at Hull and Peterborough. Yes he got Hull promoted but his cv now doesn't look that great.

I am being pragmatic here, so don't confuse the above with a slagging off.
GM is a quality manager and I think he's a perfect fit for us.
There maybe slightly bigger clubs interested like Barnsley but no chance Sunderland are interested.

I know that this is just a job and GM is free to move on as he chooses but I feel he made a huge statement about getting us out of this league so I'm hoping he is a man of integrity and honour and gives us another season to deliver on that promise.

How strange Wendies saying the same about their Manager and I'm sure many other clubs fans saying exactly the same thing about their manager

And to have the whole fanbase still being you in January despite being near to the relegation places, he isn't getting that time elsewhere. If he stays with us his stock will go up.

….and I seem to recall reading that his wife wanted him to take the Donny job when it was offered to him.
Now that is important.
