Signed for Shrewsbury
-
They're managed by the former Grimsby manager so not surprising given he was always good against them. Good for him and them if they use him the right way, certainly Mccann found his strength eventually.
-
Still o news on Adelakun?
-
Don’t think he’ll have much fun there. They’ll be lucky to stay up.
-
Hope it works out for him, new setup may just suit him better.
-
What an agent he's got.
-
If they play 5 in midfield and he’s allowed to get forward he’s ok as a goal threat from midfield. Think we’ve upgraded if Sbarra is his replacement.
Biggins scored some brilliant goals and was a threat from free kicks so he’s had plenty of good moments with us
-
Fair chance Shrews get relegated next season. Get on.
-
I'm in a minority who are sorry he left, he's a great lad who always gives 100% - thanks Biggo for that 3rd against Barrow and I wish you all the best
-
I am with you BR. Good luck lad.

Agreed I wish him all the best. Limited but always gave his all.
-
It’ll be interesting how he performs next season ! Tbh he only came into form after Xmas, however so did many others of our team ! I do wish the lad well, he’ll be remembered for that headed goal against Barrow for some time as will Tommy for the assist !
-
Good luck to him, but he has backed the wrong horse if he wants a promotion chasing team.
-
I am convinced that by the time his contract runs out, we will be in a better position than they are. He must have gotten a sweet deal because they are League One plodder, and he could have been part of a promotion. Best of luck to him.
-
If he gets to play first team football on more money fair play to him. Can’t help but think Shrews will struggle though if they’re signing players that in all honesty weren’t good enough for league 2 (bar the few months at the end of his contract).

Maybe he didn’t get a sweat deal.
Maybe we just didn’t offer that great a deal.
At the time the renewals were starting to be discussed he hadn’t been that great.
So possibly the deal we offered reflected that.
Then he ended the season on fire and cashed in on the extra interest because of it.
-
His time at DRFC will be the highlight of his career in my opinion however, good luck to a player who had more ‘in his locker’ than many who have worn the hoops could have dreamt of having.

Very likely, although he will now be playing League One football on a better-paid contract than the one he was on last season. So you could say it is a sweet deal.

I wish we had got a third goal against Crewe mate.
-
IMO
He was offered a contract by us, a L2 club, which we DONT know the details of.
He was offered a contract by Shrewsbury, a L1 club, which we KNOW was 2yr.
The lad was an honest player, served his contract and played well, he moved on which suited our club (or we would have tried harder).
Best of luck to him and thanks to him for his time with us. He was better than people give him granted for.
If he ever comes back to Keepmoat I will clap him on and off the pitch.

Lol yes me too !

I'm pleased for Biggo that he's got fixed up with a L1 club and I thank him for his efforts at Rovers and wish him all the best.
However, I wonder whether in a year from now he will be a league below us?

McCann pointedly said contracts had been offered the 3 players deals based on how they had performed and what they felt was right for them and the club. Not that they had broken the bank for all three of them.
I imagine they offered Adelakun and Molyneux very good deals of a decent length. One of which was accepted, one not accepted, and we are yet to see what Adelakun may have negotiated elsewhere.
I would imagine Biggins will have been offered a good deal, but certainly not of a significant uplift in wages or deal length. Fair play, he didn't take it, and he will have the chance to prove himself at the level up next year, irrespective of what happens at the end of the season.
-
Good luck to him and thanks for that goal against Barrow. It's up there in the top 5 or 10 moments supporting Rovers for me. Also I fondly remember the volley at Grimsby the season before which was an outrageous goal.
No doubt a decent lad and a grafter with a good engine, but it's one of those where I'm not devastated he's moved on. I'm surprised he got himself a L1 contract but don't blame him for taking it.
I thought he was quite a limited player in the round, who was pretty good at a couple of things, namely outlandish goals, and timing his arrival into the box to get on the end of crosses. So looking at his 2 years with us overall I'd say most of it was fairly average, with a couple of bursts of good form.
Perhaps some of that was due to not being utilised properly for the most part. He looked decent when he was given that more advanced midfield role with others in there to provide the creativity (Craig) and defensive nous (Bailey) from deep that wasn't his forte.
-
He was shocking for 80% of his time here, brilliant for the last 20%. Was that down to him playing for a contract, or did we just find the right system for him? Who knows. Fair play to him for betting on himself and getting (I assume) a better deal. Can't blame him for going, and can't blame the club for not breaking the bank to keep him. I think we've already upgraded.
-
Biggo was offered a one year deal on the same wage.
-
I've no problems with his decision, I would have liked to have seen him stay but if he's been offered a better/longer deal at a higher level then you cant blame him for taking it.
He was poor first half of the season i agree but to be fair the whole team was disjointed and was set up to play, not how GM wanted but with what we could scrape up on a Saturday. Once we could start to field a strong constant team he really did well.. He's a bigger loss than most people think imo.
-
Biggo was offered a one year deal on the same wage.
A fair offer given his form over the time he was here.
Fair play if he's gone and got better elsewhere.

Don’t think he will be on any more money at Shrewsbury but he will probably have been offered a longer term deal which will have been the clincher.
Early days and no league table predictions until the week before the 1st game of the season from me but if I was making any predictions now then Shrewsbury would be in my bottom 4 next season along with Burton, Cambridge & Northampton.
Crawley, Exeter & Bristol Rovers to just stay up.
-
Total wage bill last season of £5.7m, up a million on the prior season. That's ok money.

Rovers or Shrews?
-
I like Biggins and think we will miss. him. He had energy and got us on the front foot, qualities we lacked in his absence, in the home leg v Crewe.
That said, I trust that the new additions, probably Clifton, will adequately fill the void.
Am I correct in thinking Biggins last ever touch as a Rovers player resulted in a goal. Good way to leave.

Where has that info come from CBcb?
5.7m is very high for league 2
I would think only Wrexham, Notts C & Bradford C will have had higher wage bills last season in League 2 based on that figure. Higher than Stockport & Mansfield ( who were both promoted ) and Gillingham who have a wealthy American owner.
I would have estimated it at around 4.0m if I had to take a punt simply on the size of the squad we had.
Would be interested to see an official wage bill league table if one was available.
-
CBcb so your saying the season before last under McSheffrey & Schofield we had a wage bill of 4.7 million.
Sorry I find that very hard to believe.
That season only Taylor, Anderson & Rowe will have been on over 2.5k per week imo. ( I am guessing as I don’t know ) & the vast majority of the others will have been on under 1.5k per week.
Many of them around 1.0k or less imo.

Pretty sure CBCB is talking about Shrewsbury's wage bill, not ours.

If they do then they have someone putting an awful lot of money in or they would be trading at a massive loss.

I'm not sure why you'd be amazed if you've clicked the link and read it. The link is to their publicly available full accounts from Companies House. Have a look for yourself on page 21 to see their wage costs. It's also detailed in there that they traded at a £3m loss in the financial year in question.
EDIT - just seen the link may be broken, so instead click the below, and then on "View PDF" where it says "Full accounts made up to 30 June 2023"

Gareth Ainsworth appointed head coach of Shrewsbury Town, bottom of League One. Maybe he might fancy Biggins more than the last guy. The last guy who actually signed him, then loaned him out for the season, all within two months.

If he sees any of his performances at Carlisle, he will probably leave him where he is.
-
We only saw the best of him in the second half of last season, prior to that I thought we’d have been better off with Christopher Biggins pulling on the hoops !!

Totally agree.
Oh yes, his contract was coming to an end.
He’ll be great again when it suits him.
Glad we got rid.
-
A bit harsh some of the comments. Yes he could go completely missing in some games, but he always was looking to get forward and scored a few important goals. Lets not forget the header v Barrow, which provided an incredible euphoric moment, in our recent history.
Never heard a roar anything like it, when that hit the back of the net.

He is a L2 player isn’t he, so it is likely that he is going to perform at his best every game.
I thought he started to shine in the 5-1 at Grimsby after Craig came into the team and Biggs was decent for the rest of the season.
I don’t buy into the reasoning that he tried harder because his contract was coming to an end.
-
The system with Craig in the team let him play to his strengths and he looked far better for it. To be fair all of the players looked far better from February onwards and their confidence grew.
