Wow kind of knew it was coming but it’s still a big deal. Hope it works out for him and us now!
-
And is that the new away shirt? I like it
-
And is that the new away shirt? I like it
Was thinking that
-
No idea how we can afford this, where he is going to fit in, or whether at 38 he can still make an impact, but 100pc behind this.
-
38, fit as a lop he"ll fit in at this level.
We just need to make sure another Dunk hasn't got him in his sights
-
Return of the king. Scored a few in the MLS just a few months back so if he's fit, even taking nostalgia out of it, you'd think he has something to add.
But how can you ignore the nostalgia? That's the greatest ever right there. Welcome back King Billy, let's make the last dance a special one.
-
Our bench is going to be a thing of beauty next season.
-
Wonder how that will work in GM favoured formation will it now be 4 4 2 I can't see Billy fitting into a 4 3 3 formation
-
Wow, if this sort of thing is happening then this division will be shivering in their boots, even if he doesn't play his influence on George and Joe will be so important. Many thanks to Billy, he didn't have to come to L2 to get games, but he came for Rovers, we love you lad.
-
McCann will take inspiration from SOD and shove Ironside into the wing to act like Mark McCammon.
-
Here is in his full glory
-
Fantastic experienced, goal scoring addition.
Love it. Come on Billy lad, help us to a great season.
Must keep Ironside now.
Matty Craig anyone, as a cherry on the top??
-
Welcome Home Billy Sharp. (TWO BOB)
-
Awesome!! Welcome back Billy Sharp!!
-
Welcome back fat lad from Sheffield. God I love him. My favourite rovers player ever along with copper.
-
I thought it might happen before now but pleased all the same.
Fingers crossed, we fall in love yet again, although we need to cut him some slack, as he gets used to League Two football.
He did a big favour for me a couple of years ago, and I hope I get the chance to shake his hand and thank him properly. A true gent and legend.
-
By God, Terry is really digging deep into his pockets now. What a great Summer of signings we're having.
This is really going to put arses on seats, because the floating fans just want excitement. They came back for the thoughts of a Wembley appearance, probably took their ball home again after the Crewe capitulation, and now they'll want to be part of the return of the hero.
-
I think this will do a lot in the stands (fans), off the pitch (leadership), and on the pitch (he was scoring goals as late as last calendar year), so for me it's a good signing..
..and not just nostalgia for my second favourite ever player.
-
He might score one, he might score twenty.
But imagine the scenes when the first goal goes in.
-
I love the video
"I'm back!"
-
Just a fat lad from Sheffield.....
But worth his weight in gold!
Welcome back, King Billy!
Another thousand season tickets sold?
-
He might score one, he might score twenty.
But imagine the scenes when the first goal goes in.
Especially if it is in the league, and thus his 250th PL/EFL goal :scarf:
-
Brilliant News he will be a Battleship taking on Row Boats!
-

Any potential implications for our top goalscorers chart, Dutch?
-
Brilliant signing. I wonder how many shirts are sold with his name on the back. I’ll be buying one

He is currently equal 22nd on the club all time list (all competitions) with 45
The next few above him:
Tommy Rowe 46
Laurie Sheffield 48
Kit Lawlor ,& Ron Walker 49
Ray Harrision & Clarrie Jordan 50
Albert Turner 53
Paul Heffernan & Stan Burton 54
Paul Todd 57
Peter Doherty 60
Don't want to go any further, may have jinxed him already
-
A massive signing for the club to say he is now in league two. Well done to Grant and co to get him here. Sign me up for a shirt.
-
Amazing and thank you Terry.
My bet for us to win the title next year looks a bit more possible.
Can’t wait to see him back in the hoops.
-
Surely that has to be an extra 1,000 bums on seats for opening home game now.
-
Hmmm.....

Just need Copps to polish off his boots now and the universe is complete.
-
Brilliant signing. I wonder how many shirts are sold with his name on the back. I’ll be buying one
Count me in
-
It is a long time since I last looked forward to a season so much - 2008-09 maybe, first in the Championship.
-
Just wow!
That’s all.
Welcome back, Billy, we’ve missed you!
-
Shocked and delighted.
-
I really hope this signing works out.
-
Over the moon with this. Quality player who 6m ago signed for a championship team. If it had been any other striker but Billy I.e. a top championship striker who hadn't played for us before we would all be buzzin, still don't understand the few that aren't!
Regards the commercial side, we are a well run club, the deal will have suited the club and that's that. When people are talking about the wages he MUST be on.....who are we to say? He has signed so it suited him and the club equally. Bear in mind whatever we offered Haks will have been 'freed up' by him not signing........and for me given the choice I'd have Billy over Haks every day of the week.
I hope for the opportunity to bump into Terry this season so I can thank him for what he is doing for the club now he has taken control.
-
He looks lean and fit.
-
For me we had Billy in his absolute prime, I know he had a longer spell in the Championship with Sheff Utd, but we’ve had the best of him in my opinion, welcome back Billy lad
-
Good luck to him, I will be pleased if he can score 20+ but not going to be easy
-
Welcome back Billy, great signing, bags of experience, & will most certainly add goals to the team.
-
653 career goals..
Be 700 by May 2025
-
Good to see you again Billy, welcome back.
-

I hope he gets to 700 but I think he is on 249 efl goals!

Not to sure about that mate that’s Ronaldo stats mate

you sure?
-
Absolutely buzzing about King Billy coming back and listened to all the rumours with a massive pinch of salt! How wrong was I? What a statement, what a message to the fans to get behind the team & get bums on seats after the excitement of last season. I know he’s no spring chicken but FFS, it’s league 2, he’ll tear the league a new on & score for fun!! Welcome back legend!!
Can’t wait for the season to start!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
-
We need to sort out a chant for this new signing.
...oh no, hang on
-
Can we get George Friend back as well
-
653 career goals..
Be 700 by May 2025
Think you might have misread the table on wiki, he has 653 League Appearances (including 12 in MLS, USA)
He has 249 League Goals (PL + EFL) plus 6 in MLS.
-
6 in 12 is a great return in the MLS. The standard can’t be worse that L2 can it?

It appears I have misread that! Turns out 273 career goals, could maybe hit 300
-
Unbelievable news.
Never in a million years did I think he would be coming back.
Less of a risk I think than it would be if we had not already got Ironside and Miller.
Can see him being used predominately as a Super Sub.
The club are definitely pulling out all the stops to give McCann a squad capable of winning the league never mind top 3.
I just wish we had TLT and Mathew Craig but I suppose we can’t have everything.
This new keeper might be just as good as TLT of course. Hoping he is.
Well will we have any other new signings before we KO or will that be it I wonder.
We have a very competitive squad and very much doubt any one else has one better.
Chesterfield and Notts Co I think are the best other 2 on paper as it stands right now.

I agree and they are going to be four great games in front of large crowds
-
Modric still doing it in the Euros at 38, no reason why Billy can’t do it in L2
-
Sharp claims he's fitter now than when he last played for us.
-
BILLY, BILLY SHARP, BILLY, BILLY SHARP
-
Is it one year and that’s it?
Or any option for another?
-
If we go up I think he would fancy another season with us.
-
Absolutely astonishing!
Whether he's still got it in his legs or not, this is a brilliant signing in terms of the statement it makes to the fans.
-
To think he’s wanting to finish his career with this club……..it’s a groovy kinda love!
-
Do we think he will take the number 10 shirt
-
Do we think he will take the number 10 shirt
I dare say so, it's now vacated since Tommy Rowe left.
-
I just think this is great. That’s all I will say
-
Billy Sharp is not coming to Rovers to sit on the bench and be a bit part player
The end

Comes across really clearly in his interview Raven, he's definitely going to be banging on Grant's door to be starting! Great to have quality competition.
-
Could we play the 4-2-4 a few times this season
-

But he's unlikely to be a 90 min player. With 5 subs available, he doesn't need to be, so McCann will utilise his options to the full, particularly with so many games, including cups, in the early part of the season. We could argue Billy will be a big impact player, coming on from the bench when games get stretched.
Miller will be stating his case too. It's like having two new signings up front so it's far from a given who's going to be starting.
I'll be happy if he makes 30 appearances and scores 10 goals.
-
Haven't seen him play for a few years but I'd expect he will offer plenty, both on and off the pitch as he has vast experience.
His game has always been finding that yard of space which you surely don't lose even as you get into your late 30s, he seems to be in great shape, and was always great at leading the line. Can't help but be really chuffed about this. Didn't go the way he wanted at Hull, but his recent goal record in MLS is encouraging (albeit a small sample).
Great to see him back. If Sbarra hasn't already snapped it up, get him in that #10 shirt again.

Tickled me when he said he's in better shape than last time he played, finally agreeing with O'Driscoll that he was the fat lad from Sheffield :D
-
That news has got the legs going all tingly again!

I was showing my lad some of his goals last night as he's too young to remember him first time round. 90% scrappy little tap-ins, headers, volleys, rebounds, all right-place-right-time finishes on the edge of the 6 yard box, leathering one into the top bin from 40 yards was never his game.

Watched the video DRFC posted out earlier. Some absolutely cracking finishes in there that I'd forgotten about. Acrobatic finishes, shots on the turn, early pot shots catching out the goalkeeper. Deadly inside the 18 yard box.

Great signing. If Billy and Joe play …….who takes the penalties?
Joe for me.
-
He’s been given No 14.
What’s Heffernan going to have?
-
Sbarra was 7 at Solihull, maybe Molyneux is taking 10, which is what he was at Hartlepool.
-
thank you for those kind words
