McCann must be buzzing with the selection problem he’s going to have!
How do we think we’ll line up to get the best out of the squad now? For me we have to get 2 up top now. Not sure where that leaves us with wingers and can Sbarra play as a 8 or is he another winger/10?
If we’re going for it I’d see what the belie does in friendlies
Keeper (forget his name)
Nixon Olowu Wood Maxwell
Moly Bailey Sbarra/Close Hurst/Gibson
Sharp Ironside
Exciting times but a headache for McCann which he’ll be delighted to have.

Just listened to McCann sounds like some of the lads have been at the training ground guessing in the gym, getting ready for the new season and to be in the best shape for the drills in pre season.
Think we have a great group who are going to push each other on and be ready if and when they are needed

Plus a fully fit Miller.
Could be interesting when we get our first penalty if Joe, Billy and George are all on the pitch! Three way 'rock, paper, scissors' to sort it out?
-
Got to be Billy if hes on the pitch.

All have very good penalty records:
Joe Ironside has scored 27/32 (84%)
George Miller has scored 4/5 (80%)
Billy Sharp has scored 31/39 (79%)*
*against tougher GKs ofc
76% is the average conversion rate for penalties.

Ironside and Sharp won’t play at the same time. They will rotate to be that central focal point who links the play.
If you play both at the same time it’s too slow a press to play around. Billy says he’s fitter than ever so hopefully he has the engine to keep going like Joe does, whilst taking league two whacks.

I’m not sure it translates that the higher the level, the harder it is to score a penalty. There are keepers in the lower leagues who are very good at saving them, and keepers in the top leagues who are hopeless with them.

I'd be astonished if Sharp starts.
Impact sub for the last 25 minutes, mind. That'd be something.

I'd be astonished if he didn't start.
I'm sure he hasn't signed to sit on the bench and he will be as fit or fitter than most come the start of the season.

That was my first thought too,but then I thought, maybe it should be Ironside because, there is more of a chance he might get sold for a fee in the coming seasons, and the more goals he scores the more we likely to get,but I absolutely hope we never sell him until we have better than him.

He’ll have to earn his starting place just like everyone else. Our other striker won a lot of people’s player of the season, worked his knackers off for the team and scored 20 league goals.
-
If he’s as determined to train hard, score goals & in doing so “make it hard” for the manager not to pick him as he says in his interview, why wouldn’t you start him alongside Joe?
I think Billy has plenty of goals in him especially at this level. He’s desperate to score what would be his 250th league goal of his career & do so as quickly as he can.
He sounds raring to go to me so yeah, all that being said, one of the first names on the team sheet for me.
I’d back him, Joe & George to score 45+ goals between them this season.

If it comes to a penalty and ironside is in the pitch then its a no brainer. Joe has to take it.
He was our 1st choice last season and there is no reason why he shouldnt be again.
His penalty in the dying minutes at sutton changed our season and he showed he has ice in his veins for that sort of situation.

I would agree with that, absolutely.

Same. We signed a 38yr old last season and he was 1st choice centre half. At this level Billy is signing to start games not be an impact sub. He could probably get another contract doing that in the championship if he really wanted.

I don’t think Sharp will match or eclipse Ironside’s league goal tally from last year. In fact, I’d be willing to bet anyone on it.
Was quite fun to watch the one Colin C no.3 made with GazLaz unfold last year.
