I'll go first seeing as it's my idea.
Be Bop Deluxe.
-
Ocean Colour Scene

James. Yes they've had a few hits but I guess most of the general public could only name one.

For similar reasons, The Waterboys.

Good call. Their biggest hit was far from their best work.
-
Pentangle
-
Anthrax
Metallica , slayer and megadeth always appeared above them on bills but they had some great albums
-
Be Bop Delux were a great band, as was Bill Nelson and the Red Noise
used to use the local church hall as a studio and rehearsal room, and had a large car collection of very collectable cars.
A great guy as well and owned the local stately hall and was once interviewed on my back lawn for Radio London and Caroline while we had a pint.

Thanks Mike and BB - I'll have to look up some of their stuff because I only know "The Whole of the Moon" and I liked that.

Pentangle
[/quote Good call.

Without a doubt, Marillion!
Early stuff with Fish and more up to date releases with the 'new guy'
-
Split Enz.
Joe Jackson.
-
The Damned.

For me, James has got to be the most underrated band. When I say to people I like James I usually get a blank look and a "whos he like?" Then I have to go "oh sit down, oh sit down" for what feels like the millionth time and whoever it is will nod along accordingly saying something like "oh yea I know him!". Bloody sit down, its got to be their most overplayed and overrated song and one of my least favourites!
They are one of the best live bands I've seen and they genuinely sound better live than what they do on CD, download or even tape if you're that way inclined. To say they have been going over 40 years they are still knocking out some belting tunes. Their newest album (yummy) is great with 'butterfly' and 'shadow of a giant' the standouts for me.
Getting away with it, five-0, senorita, english beefcake, sometimes and walk like you are just a few songs off the top of my head that I think some people would enjoy and I think show the wide range and variety and awesome jams that make James such a great band!
