Since Grant appears by his words and actions to have a vision for the club that goes beyond his rolling annual contract ,who do you imagine to be his investments for the future , from within the current squad ?
-
Nixon, Maxwell, Bailey, Molyneux, Broadbent, Hurst?
-
Maxwell is probably our most saleable asset now. Hurst and Faulkner not far behind provided we can get some minutes into them this season.
-
I am wondering about the NEXT generation after those quoted above that only a few of you who live locally get to watch .
-
I’m confused - you said from within the current squad?
-
Flint and Brown both look class
-
The first time I saw Straughan-Brown play last season I was impressed by him.
He has it in him to play at a high level.
-
Looked very good last night as did Flint
-
Yes I was thinking Straughan Brown , Flint , Kuleya , Goodman who are all in the squad but I have never seen play .Also Degruchy is rarely mentioned but there is something thst obvioudly impresses Grant .
-
Nixon, Maxwell, Bailey, Molyneux, Broadbent, Hurst?
Bailey and Molyneux turning 26 and 27 this season respectively.
-
What I’ve seen of Kuleya, Goodman & Degruchy, they’re the nearly not quite lads. Flint & Brown have passed them.
-
Flint and Staughan- Brown are GM choices whereas he inherited Degruchy and Goodman ( so to speak ) ..not sure when Kuleya joined ?
-
It seems a long long time since we had Billy Bremner nurturing a crop of young players like GM is doing .I don’t think SOD did this and certainly Dean Saunders brought in vets with experience to do the short term job only .
Maybe GM uses his experience from days at Peterborough in this respect .(They nurture and sell for big money and when Grant signed McGrath he said the player would prove to be a big asset to the club in the future )

It’s difficult to bring young players through. Whilst SO’D was a long term manager, the club was looking to progress almost constantly (until we began cost cutting towards the end). When he arrived he inherited a mid table league one team. By the time the academy players came through we were pushing for the top reaches of the championship. Sometimes the club can progress quicker than the young players have an opportunity to develop in. Even going into the current season, expectations are high. You can feel how much the fans have craved signings and the club have been delivering. That makes it hard to bring through young players. Would our fans be forgiving enough?
