Title: If We Havn’t Learned by Now
Post by: Alan Southstand on August 08, 2024, 09:37:25 pm
GM is the master when it comes to getting in what we need and foxes just about everyone on what his real intentions are! No sooner has he done the unthinkable (to some posters on here) by bringing in yet another midfielder, but then he drops out that we’re very close to getting in Miller’s replacement!!

Talk about double whammy!

I had faith that he would do something about the midfield, but he even caught me out with his comment on getting a replacement for Miller. Like BobG has already eloquently put it “he’s not messing about, is he?”.

Oh ye of little faith!

Well done Grant & team & the Club for giving him the support.

Haks or Wilks ?!

I do wonder what kind of striker will replace Miller.

We’ve got the fox in the box now in sharp. We’ve got the absolute workhorse and all rounder in Joe.

A genuine big shithouse on the way?

Or out and out pace?

Haks or Wilks ?!

Grant is that clever when I heard his reaction to the Haks question earlier I genuinely thought stranger things have happened!

When asked about Adelakun, on RS, he answered short and sharp - not my player, not my problem!

Trouble is - is that another smokescreen?

As for pace - we already have that, in abundance, with Yeboah (who can operate as a 9). Big shithouse looks nearer the mark, or big shithouse with pace?

I was sticking up for our crop of midfielders rather than being negative Alan.

Mush, I think we need more physical presence up there as a back up. Yeboah can offer that pace.

Without Ironside it’s quite a diminutive attack.

Exactly I now think Haks is more of a possibility after his interview than before it.

I can’t why Haks would have played in the PFA game yesterday if something was on the table. I think that ship has sailed just like it did with Faal

Latest interview with GM, with RS.

I had to play it back twice, as I couldn’t believe what I’d heard!

Isn't Matt Smith still available? 20+ goals last yr.

Personally I'd like Max Biammo back, I really would.

I'd also like TLT back but can't have it all!

Whoever GM brings in I fully trust his judgement........can't wait for Saturday!

This is what McCann said about a forward player once Miller goes:

We'll add another one as well (as Kelly), at some point, in the attacking areas," he said. "For me it's really important to have a strong 22. There'll be another young player going out on loan too."

Guessing young player will be Flint as he’s about only one left at the right age

Personally, I think the stalwart of our late success last season was largely down to having TLT and no worries at the back. But as Ryaldinhio says, it won't happen. I suspect we will concede more goals now than if we had TLT but we have a stronger team to compensate.

Matt Smith, good shout,Max Biamou yes absolutely if fit,but I think its too risky, had a long term injury and another injury since, not getting any younger, talent and ability undoubted but I repeat too risky for me,Haks I think is gone for good,I disagree with others comments that they are more intrigued by GM comments,I think his comments not my player not my problem could be dropping a hint that although he had a great spell with us and we offered him a contract,he also had a probelm or 2 to manage him,his form dipped towards the end of season and we only offered what we thought he was worth,Haks agent obviously thinking he deserved more.

Slightly confused here. Saw two video interviews and heard the RS interview, when GM distinctly said he was happy with his front 6, after Millers departure. Then, there's the DFP quotes where he said there maybe another one in the attacking area?

He clearly stated George was down the pecking order, so surely any new signing would be too? The only thing that might make sense is a young loan striker but wouldn't that rule out an experienced striker?

It just seems strange that he would contradict what he's said officially with an exclusive titbit for the DFP

Of course, never say never. I'm an advocate of taking things with a pinch of salt.

The interview was deffo RS. His comment was early on into the interview, as almost the first thing raised was about Miller going!

It may have been one of those Zoom chats, DBR.

GM also mentioned about one of young lads also going on loan - turns out that was Flint. He said a replacement forward was almost done.

I think it will be a young striker on a permanent who is one for the future.
Surely that’s the only type of signing that would be happy with limited minutes?
GM won’t push Gibson, Hurst, Moly, Joe or Billy down the pecking order

The interview with Grant on the club website associated with the Miller to Cheltenham article where he said he was happy with the squad was recorded the day before the Rotherham game. He has stated since the Rotherham game that he hopes to have a replacement for Miller soon.

Well I'm buggered if I can find it. 3 versions of the same interview, RS, YouTube and Website via YouTube. .

Plus this with Liam specifically about Miller.which appears to be before Rotherham game.

https://youtu.be/38-rrZct8vU?si=zuMaBMHznfiem2gR

Liam specifically asked him if he was going to add anyone and he said no. He then said we're always looking if we can improve the group. Obvs since then, Kelly's been confirmed.

Exactly. I said the same in my earlier post. Like you with Criag, I think we do need back up and another option to Ironside and Sharp.

It wouldn't surprise me if we signed a young striker from Irish league. Weren't we linked to one early in transfer window?

It went out on the 8th August, DBR and it was Adam Oxley of RS.

Just searched on Twitter and there it is, but I’m not tech savvy enough to copy it onto this thread.

It’s all called ‘Proper Football Manager Syndrome’
Knows what he wants, gets support from above cos he’s a Proper Manager and Bingo!
Grant’s in charge, so hop on the Rovers Rollercoaster, it’s going to be grand…

I know a member of Louis family. I asked the question a few weeks ago when he was heading back home from holiday for preseason training, and the answer then was, No, he's hoping to break into the first team.

Of course, things may have changed since then but being on the bench suggests he's not far off where he wants to be.

McCann said the timing isn’t quite right for the other club to let the player go out at the moment due to injuries.

Our attack could maybe do with a bit more size.

I notice that Hull had to put an inexperienced 6 foot 2 striker called Tyrell Sellars-Fleming on their bench today.

That’s my pure guess.
