Title: Longest unbeaten league run?
Post by: Silkscarf on August 10, 2024, 12:37:23 pm
I think Dutch answered on another thread weeks ago but can’t find it.

Anyway, I think today will be game 13 if we avoid defeat (hopefully with a large margin victory). Playoffs don’t count of course.

Not quite Silkcarf, I pointed out we were on an 8 game winning run at home with club record of 11 in 1934-35

Our longest ever unbeaten run (home & away) is one I am old enough to remember well - 20 games in 1968-69 (won 8  drew 12)

We have had two unbeaten runs of more than the current twelve since then:

2003-04: 14 (W8 D6)
1983-84: 15 (W10 D5)

The only other run of 15 or more was 16 in 1946-47 (W13, D3)

All of the above 5 seasons were promotion seasons, with the second place in 1983-84 being the only one in which we did not win the title

I remember the 68/69 unbeaten run as well. Would have been 24 games if we hadn't inexplicably lost at Bradford Park Ave. I was at the game. Played on a mud heap and their only 2 shots on target went in. Definitely one to forget.

Thanks DU.

Well, we avoided defeat with a large margin victory so that’ll do nicely. Onwards we go to that record.

Given that we were denied a stone cold penalty at Gillingham in the last 10 mins, is today morally the 12th consecutive league win?

Asking for a WACCOE friend.

Absolutely, especially when you factor in the fact that we were wrongly reduced to 10 men.
