Looking to Tuesdays game and wondering if GM will stick with his preffered 11 or make big changes to give the other lads minutes and create that competition. All those that didnt start yesterday will be chomping at the bit to be part of the first team so will be desperate for a chance to perform.

Not saying these will all start but look at some of the players there that didn't get in our first team......what a squad we have. We could literally play 2 x 11s to compete with any team in L2.

Don't change it too much as you want to keep some continuity.
Woody goes out as you don't want him playing Saturday/Tuesday.

I’d go with something like this. 3/4 changes max, let’s keep the momentum going and let the relationships develop. Hopefully get some decent game time for the subs with the game going our way.

I’d be tempted to give most of the players who didn’t start yesterday a game - swap with some of the starters yesterday in good time if he wants continuity or if we’re not ahead?
-
As good as we were yesterday I still have a niggling worry about the centre back situation. I would give Olowu and McGrath some game time.
-
Surely Senior starts at left back.
Nixon played there when Maxwell went off because Senior wasn’t on the bench.
Nixon is a right back not a left back. Round pegs in round holes is preferable.
-

McGrath and Olowu offer us a lot more pace. Not sure that's a necessity against Salford.
-
Hope we stick to a very similar 11, first half yesterday didn’t quite click, second half definitely did, so an opportunity to really embed the way we want to play (after all it’s early season).
We then make changes at 65 mins to again embed the subs role in an overall game plan.
An we get some prize money for TB.
-
We should be trying to go a long way in the Carabao Cup, for the money as well as the prestige.
We owe Terry plenty.
-
I would guess he will stick with a similar team, try to build continuity and consistency.

I wouldn’t be messing around too much with the back 4, especially the keeper. Statement of intent was GM playing TSL yesterday, think he needs to stay in the team now. Needs to build his experience at professional level now

Not good at all.
James is a real quality LB.
-
Did Lawlor get an injury sitting on his arse?
Just as we get the medical room empty!!
-
Senior will come in at left back. The rest is rotation and i’d not make many chee as he’s. Probably just bring Nixon on a right back and Sbarra in too.
I’d like Hurst to get a run of games at 10 to see if he’s got it there. So if Sbarra came in it’d be for Gibson or Moly. For the league they obvs start.

Agree with this. If it was a Trophy game maybe rotate a bit but, as it's the League Cup, then the strongest team possible. I'm sure there's a few things from Saturdays game that need working on. Having got the players up to fitness and speed in pre-season, why would you 'rest' players after just one game.
With Maxwells injury, there's another opportunity to get someone else involved from the bench and all being well, he'll use the maximum number of subs to impact the game.
-
GM says in the DFP there will be changes. Other players have had a decent pre season and need game time. With our squad it wouldn’t be a weakened side..
-
I wouldn't be surprised if there were starts for Oluwu, Sbarra, Clifton, Yeboah and Sharp. None of which would significantly weaken us. Then again I wouldn't be surprised at anything Grant does !!
-
Hopefully Salford decide they can’t be bothered, so with a rotation team having to start Sharp up front with Clifton, Sbarra, olowu and maybe Yeboah getting starts trying to give Grant a selection headache ready for Saturday
-
Are the supporters that are promoting a weakened side and if we lose it's not that great a loss the same ones who were aghast at a reduced budget that became their main subject a couple of years ago.
This is a competition where the club can get some exposure and much needed income to relieve the need for our chairman of us being so dependant on, and improve the transfer income the easy way by winning matches that bring in customers.
Unlike in the past when we have been pathetic in most years in cup football and have watched teams like Rotherham, and Barnsley build on income from visits to Wembley along with Lincoln and Peterborough we now need to have a go at winning games and field a strong side.
If we have a go and lose to a better side I will be happy, but if we make wholesale changes and give the impression we are not bothered I will not be. Been there worn the tee shirt.
If any changes are first team squad members of quality, which we now have, that's fair enough, but some managers we have had in the past just used early season cup games as practice matches disrespecting our opponents and our own supporters who went to the games, I don't think Grant is in that mould and will want to grasp the opportunity to do well.
-
I'm not advocating playing a weakened side. I'm suggesting that there is an option to make several changes without significantly weakening the side. Such is the strength of the current squad. I'm sure Grant will put out a team that is more than capable of winning the game.
-
I think so as well CSR but probably didn't express it that well.

For me we have 1 very strong 1st 11 and bench and 1 above average league 2 side and strong bench.
We don’t have a weak area maybe goalkeeper but we are still learning about Ted so he maybe really good so definitely not writing him off at all.
We can change 4 of the starting 11 for today, 1 easy in maxwell and then 3 others and still have a strong 11
-
I think both Nixon and Kelly will also start
-
Billy will start tonight IMO
-
I think all the guys who came on as subs will start, Senior in for Maxwell and Nixon at right back.
LM to play for 60 or if he gets a goal, get him off.

Who’s promoting a weakened side.? Changed maybe, but not weaker as in previous seasons..
-
It would be nice to progress a couple of rounds and get one of the big boys (home or away) again, but the priority this season has to be the league. Wouldn’t be mega disappointed if we don’t get through but would be a bonus if we can get a big draw.
-
Yeboah doing pre match interview and Clifton the face to promote the game on the Rovers X account so they will be playing.

Once upon a time Jan Budtz will have thought that but Penney went and defied the front cover of the programme and brought in Dino Seremet

Well, that's me totally wrong. Couldn't be more wrong with wholesale changes however, as said by others, this is still a strong line-up. Well, I guess the next hour or so will tell us how strong.
-
So ten changes then from Saturday, still looks strong side
-
The whole team has changed except the keeper.
Quite shocked at that
-
Ben Woodburn playing for them. Was meant to be the next big thing for Liverpool and Wales.
-
Worth noting that Salford have also made almost as many changes as we have, 9 to our 10. Jon Taylor not involved after going off at half time at the weekend.
-
Conditions were tricky with the heavy rain, Olowu had a good game as did the keeper, although not put under much pressure but did what he had to most times when the ball came into the area from wide positions.
We looked a lot more dangerous up front than Salford whose attacks were lacking penetration.
So a good win, and look forward to the next round. Sheffield United at home would be nice.

A bit worrying that their substitute winger skinned Broadbent and outpaced him a couple of times.

Worrying how? He was rapid
-
Seemed about 4 or 5 very tight offside flags when we were through on goal.
Sharp went through on goal, Ironside and Moly from memory.
Did anyone see any replays as I refuse to believe they were all offside.
Also what was that chancer Alex Bruce on about, handball or something in the box that the ref missed. Haven’t seen that back.
And where was Jon Taylor, he’s not injured already?
-
The handball that Bruce is referring to was by Yeboah and it wasn’t handball from what I saw it hit him on the shoulder and went out for a corner.

Their number ten (the sub winger) looked to be a very tricky and fast player.
He will out pace most players he comes up against.
The more appealing stat is that we didn’t concede from anything that he produced.
-
Thank god it was covered, it was persisting it down all night making tricky conditions. They huffed and puffed had one plan really long ball to 9 foot tall guy at front and hopefully pick up something from set plays. We were far more dangerous and had the better chances the lino in the second half just flagged everything. Special mention to big Joe at back for handling the 10 foot tall striker(he got bigger as the game went on) Bodies on the line and great defending in really nasty conditions. Good night out..

Agreed. Joe and Jay looked very assured all night in the centre.

From what I can see on the Salford forum he seems to have gone off at ht with an Achilles injury - the poor guy just can’t get a break

Wholesale changes very rarely work out.

Generally I would agree, especially after a good win in the opening game, but I think it was important to do this.
Grant is sending a message to all the squad to say they are ALL first XI players. It's up to them to prove they deserve a shirt. And they responded.

Which returns us to his excellent quote from a year or so ago, ‘Footballers are self employed… it’s upto them’
He’s got 22 chomping at the bit to be involved in ‘The Project’
He talks about the right characters, ie if they’re not starting they’ll do everything they can to impress and get a Start, and we saw that last night. He’s got them eating out of his hand.
