Just been looking at our recent league match scoring record.
18 goals in the last 5 league games. 4-4-4-2-4. That matches the best 5 game spell when we went bananas for a few weeks under Bremner in 1982. We did have a couple of better runs in 46/47 (19 and 28(!) in 5 games). I wonder if we've ever beaten this run since then?

We equalled that in 2003-04:
Bury A 3-1
Cambridge A 3-3
Bristol R H 5-1
Macclesfield A 3-1
Mansfield H 4-2

Wow, I'd forgotten that spell. Absolutely dominant, we were. Tore decent sides apart. Green, Ravenhill, Blundell and McIndoe like a pack of hyenas closing down defenders. Leo bashing the hell out of them and Brown so elegant and quick thinking. What a side.
And the current lot are matching them.

Because he's Dutch Uncle, not much he and mighty JC don't know
-
Dutch Uncle has a better database and software than the top
media channels.
-
And on top of that nfrastructure Dutch is industrious, determined, patient, experienced, possesses the ultra rare ability of understanding the value of detail whilst thinking with imagination of bigger pictures (in Belbin terms both a completer/finisher and a plant and chairman). And Dutch is also the most intelligent person I have met in almost 70 years.
Hagiographic biography over...

Bob,
You have a way with words.

My goodness me, what have I woken up to?
Many thanks everyone, it is certainly gratifying, but also very humbling, if a few people appreciate it when I put stats up on here. A bit like monkeys and typewriters, eventually one stat might be interesting to others,
I have always maintained The Red Baron/JC is the real expert with the best database, I am the infatuated amateur with a sprawling mess of spreadsheets and, in these retirement days, with time on my hands.
At least I can agree with Bob’s use of hagiography – making something/someone out to be far better than they are.
As for intelligence, I guess in the early educational part of my life I demonstrated some capacity to learn but, my oh my, I have so often demonstrated a true lack of ability or willingness to learn from mistakes since.
Possibly the most intelligent choice we have all made is to follow Rovers. Following the likes of Manchester City means that every win is expected and every defeat or even draw is a total disaster. With Rovers, the regular ‘downs’ along the way means that the ‘ups’ are truly euphoric. Let’s all enjoy them while we can
And yes Bob, you certainly have a way with words. As for me I would describe myself not so much a man of many words, more that the ones I do know I use rather often.
Thanks again everyone, this old man will enjoy his coffee this morning :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

Always love your stats DU
So feel very free to keep them coming.
Isn’t it great that the current team are chasing some long unbroken records…

Did anyone mention modest, too?
Keep it up, Dutch

Perhaps I should also have said that, in my experience at least, Dutch is unique. A highly qualified mathematician without the one track mind that's usually associated with mathematicians. Curious, exploratory, creative and inventive. The mind of an artist.
Don't undersell yourself Dutch.
Bob
PS An erstwhile internationally capped sports player too... A bloody irritatingly perfect bloke!

I can absolutely and categorically state that this is the very first time I have been called an artist .................. except when preceded by a four letter word describing my student drinking habits.

In a bar in NW Germany with a Luftwaffe pilot who spoke no English......

PS actually, I am traducing you there. It was the others present who needed propping up...

Back on topic here, I think there is very little chance of beating our best ever league goals total in a season - that was a whopping 123 in 42 games in 1946-47. But beating the second highest of 87 in 1934-35 and 1938-39 (also both in 42 games) might be possible?
If so that would also be our highest in a 46 game seasons (currently 85 in 1965-66 and 2016-17)
-
With our strike force surely 2 goals per game is achievable… that would be 92… love targets
-
Think we can get 100 this season.
Love DU’s stats and general input - thanks DU
