This is not just running up a big score. It is dominating the game from start to finish, dominating the opposition from start to finish. Having the ability to bring on subs to continue the game domination by seeing out the game by adding to the scoreline. This will make opponents fear us.
-
I agree, and that's what Grant wants. It's what SOD wanted too. All about the performance and "doing the right things". The goals are then a natural by-product.
-
50 shades of Grant
-
Total football from the first to the last minute, comprehensively beating the opposition in the process.
-
Is there any particular team that you think that we will trash?
It’s not too long since we couldn’t see where our next point would come from.
I’m glad that attitudes have changed to positive.
-
Good question. This Saturday at Newport. Been on their fans forum, some are saying we will give them a beating, because they have lost experienced players and now have mainly inexperienced youngsters. In the recent past we have struggled at Newport. This Saturday I think we will win, and win well.
-
We need the players to think that the next fixture will be the most difficult game of the season, whatever the opposition. Even if we end up winning well like last Saturday..
-
Think both Newport and Morecambe will get a very good hiding from us
Hope that statement doesn’t come back to bite me on the bum.
I don’t usually make score predictions, but here goes
3-0 v Newport & 4-0 v Morecambe.
We will beat 1 or 2 teams 5 or 6 nil this season. Not sure who but I can’t see us not being the highest goal scoring team in the league this season.
Grimsby are due a good thumping at Blundell Park from us aren’t they.
 ;) :) :) :)
-
Acceington fans have said we will be one of the top sides come the end of the season. One Newport fan on their forum expects Rovers to give their team a “humbling”.Other fans of other L2 teams are recognizing the strength and quality of our squad and the strength in depth. All L2 teams are beatable by us, that is the mentality of a title winning team.

5-1in February not a thrashing?

Yes, there will be a banana skin somewhere and it will be interesting to see who will beat us. But we are in for an exciting season with some great players for this league. Enjoy the ride because we don't get many like this.

There is only one team we MUST do the double on and that is Crewe for what happened in the playoffs. That sting will last with me for a very long time.
-
No, I don’t really care who we beat, as long as we beat enough.!

Camps put a winkie emoji in his post mate.
Thinking about that game, and the previous 5-1 win there too I reckon I’m going to have a bet on us getting a third one in a row by 5-1 when it comes round.

Calm down people you're getting a little giddy. We've played 1 league game as Dickos would say let's see where we are after 10

Agreed Raven.
We’ve had a good start but there is a long way to go.

I thought exatly the same, we’re going to score loads and win every time, but we’ve only had 2 games.
So calmed down.
Then, and I think this is what’s driving this huge expectation… we’re still on the back of 10 straight wins and a draw
Giddy again …

Agreed - and the teams we’ve played so far are not likely to be rivals for promotion. And do we really want to get a reputation like Leeds and their fans? Or Wrexham - it can have the effect of making them fired up and all the more determined to beat us at any cost.
I’m sure GM is not instilling this kind of attitude in the players because he will want to encourage confidence, but respect for opponents and words like “trash” have completely opposite connotations.
-
I can see where Les is coming from, though, and it will really depend on mindsets as much as it is about fitness and understanding. Also, the opposition will become tougher the longer we go unbeaten. GM and the Club, generally, have moved up a step or two in almost every aspect of the running of football side and everything associated with it. We seem, and probably are, a completely different entity to what we were last season.
I sincerely hope we can keep it going. There’s room for improvement, no doubt, but this squad seem hungry to get to the top.

Seriously don’t know why I bother with the imoji’s.
We have scored 13 goals in our last 3 visits to Blundell Park. Wish we could play all our 23 away games there.
-
Yes it is early, but trends can start to, there will always be exceptions i.e. us last season. However, top of the league teams will be very noticeable early on. Last season it was Stockport and Wrexham, who both went up. Also, something no one has mentioned, is that we have momentum from the end of last season that we have carried over into this season. Teams will be very wary of us, and be thankful that they only play us twice in a season.

Sorry to be my usual pedantic spoilsport, mate, but the first 5-1 was way back in 2017, with a Marquis hat trick.
Two seasons ago we won 3-1 with, would you believe it, Danny Schofield as manager. So Camps is right when he says that we've scored 13 on our last 3 visits to Grimsby, but it's been over a period of 7 years.

The daft thing is SS, I was at all of those games.
How can it be so easy to let the mind play tricks.

For a different reason the two sides I want us to beat most are Harrogate and Bromley
Then we would have beaten 89 of the 92 current FL clubs, our highest tally ever
We have never played Chelsea in a League fixture and never beaten Newcastle in a league fixture
Edit: And in case anyone asks, the 92nd club play at the Ecopower

Not sure what the 7 yrs has got to do with it SS
The fact is we have scored 13 goals in our last 3 league games there.

I think many would argue we have beaten ourselves, several times, especially in the last 3 seasons prior to our recovery this year!

The 7 years was more of a reply to Hound, Camps, because that was the gap between the first 5-1, and the second one, which means that it wouldn't have been possible for 3 successive 5-1 wins, that Hound was alluding to.

This is League 2 where no team dominates without total commitment on the pitch and a lot of luck to stay away from injuries!!

Well at the moment Newport look to be trashing most comments on here as we fail to cope with just the type of in your face football we have struggled with for the last few seasons.

Is “in your face” akin to the dark arts that the Newport manager alluded to? From the commentary it sounded as though the contest was fairly fought.

It’s a 46 game season, some Folk on here were going on like we would win all 46.
We’re going to get beat quite a few more times this season it’s how we get over these defeats. We need to be averaging 2 points a game, win on Saturday and that’s exactly what we’re doing.
-
Agree with that it’s not a disaster.
We do need to be playing our best team though.
I now think that means Kelly in for Broadbent and Fleming in at LB.
It was a concern to get bullied like that and Ironside doesn’t look his usual self to me so far.

Remember ironside started quite slow last season.

MK Dons hotly backed for promotion. Zero points. Only worse side is (pleasingly) Crewe, who made it to Wembley. Zero points and minus six goal difference.

And it is surely obvious that the extra class and potency we had at the end of last season was considerably due to the contributions of the outstanding loan trio. They’ve gone and their replacements have yet to make an equivalent mark in the performances. Although the overall strength of the squad may be greater now, we can only have 11 on the pitch at a time.
-
We don’t know yet if Kelly is as good as craig but I think Gibson is as good as haks,
The keeper hasn’t done anything wrong.
We’ve scored 7 goals in the first 3 games so it’s a bit daft to question the potency and class. We’re a new team and a much better team than what we had last season. With much better options
-
I'd take Gibson over Hacks over what I have seen. It says alot he still has no club. Craig is the one we will miss the most but our attacking threat is way ahead of the squad that finished last season. Its maybe time to start billy. Especially at home.
-
They were onto us quickly, forced mistakes and hurried our every move the second half. Molly was forced across field on his right foot mostly, our full backs got run and outpaced and we hardly ever stopped the ball into the box and looked vulnerable at the back, and lacking control in mid field.
-
The stats suggest it was a close game. We outplayed them in the first half. They outplayed us in the second half. Lessons need to be learnt to be a better and stronger team. This squad will have much better days, that I’m confident in.
-
I would be more concerned if we had poorer stats. Our stats were better all round - apart from the obvious vital one..
Stats don’t show the quality of the play, speed of thought, confidence and commitment etc. but I expect we will play worse than that and win this season.
I reckon it’s still too early for GM to know what the best starting 11 is. Maxwell is a big loss.
I think we should be starting the next game like the last 30 vs Accrington.
