Title: Three sequences ended, one still ongoing
Post by: Dutch Uncle on August 17, 2024, 06:04:57 pm
Three sequences in the league gone, but one still going - for now.

Unbeaten runs of 13 (H & A) and 6 (away) come to an end
Run of 7 matches scoring 2 or more goals is over (club record of 9 threatened but intact)
Run of now 21 games without drawing blank still ongoing (club record 27, and only 4 runs longer than the current 21)

What’s the home sequence to beat Dutch?

Club all time record is 11 league wins on the bounce, we are currently on 9.

Edit: If it is still on after the Morecambe game we have two of the toughest home games to follow - Gillingham and Chesterfield

That’s achievable, thanks Dutch.

How about longest home unbeaten run?

That is a remarkable 33 matches spread out over 3 seasons:

Last 11 matches of 1931-32 (W9 D2)
All 21 matches of 1932-33 (W13 D8, our only season unbeaten at home all season)
First match of 1933-34 (Won, for a total of W23 D10)

Ah, we aren't going to be troubling that I suspect. Thanks Dutch.

What is more feasible is the 11 league wins on a bounce. We would have to beat Morecambe and Gillingham to match that, and Chesterfield to beat that.

That's a tough ask but if we want to be challenging for promotion, we should expect to be very competitive at home, including against the very best in this league.
