Another solid display at the back, both showing they are very good back ups at least, but challenging for first team spot.
This is exactly what we need.
-
Both did very well. Aside from that slight slip by Jay it was a flawless performance from both. The Huddersfield goal came from Joe passing a player on to Broadbent who momentarily switched off, but that can happen.
A solid team performance.

Yes, it can and does happen.
All goals are preventable aren’t they.
If we had conceded a goal like the Yeboah one people would have gone mad.
-
We nearly did.
-
McGrath went into one tackle and it was no nonsense. Straight through, clean, took the ball. ⚽️ Proper defender..
-
A solid defense that we need.
-
Thought McGrath looked better than Joe v Everton, last night Joe returned the favour, he was excellent, I think he was given Ward to look after, which he certainly did.
I hope these two both really kick on together we need new blood at the back and a partnership.
So they’ve had their exams, do Joe and Jay (JayJo) start v Gillingham?
Personally I think they should.
-
In Bradly Dack they will have a different challenge, me I would go with Olowu and Anderson in this one.
McGrath has been caught on the ball in both games at Port Vale and Huddersfield, this lot will be onto that, and if McGrath does play he needs to quicken up when in possession.
-
Jo was very good & he is becoming consistently good, which makes me wonder if Cliff has been giving him one to one coaching to get him more dominant & cut out the mistakes he used to make!
-
I would say the biggest improvement in Olowu is that he looks a lot braver when competing aerially.
He always had the size and strength but would shirk away previously. Now he imposes himself more and wins a lot more duels.
Great balance between them 2 with McGrath’s left foot and Joe’s athleticism.
Then there’s Anderson to put in if the opposition has a league 2 cave troll up front.
Just have to pray for no more injuries.
