In 2003-04 we had a remarkable run of 15 games where we won 13, drawing one and losing one
We have just beaten that - our last 16 league games have been won 14 drawn 1, lost 1
Of the other 91 current Football League teams we have beaten 87 of them in a league game. We have not (yet) played against Chelsea and Bromley, and we have never beaten Newcastle and Harrogate
Be great to make it 88 on Thursday :scarf: :scarf:

That Newcastle one stings....matching them (at least) at our place and being undone by 2 pieces of individual brilliance by players worth more than our team combined. Ah well, maybe we'll see them again one day.

Thanks from me also, DU; and it seems a bit cheeky asking for more, but I'm going to. I'm well aware of the famous win over Man City 4-3, after being 0-3 down at HT, because my uncles were always talking about it.
However, I know nothing about our victories over Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd, Liverpool, and Everton; obviously all in the old Second Division.
Info on those would be much appreciated.

I made a list of our first victories over all clubs, so here are some:
Our first (and so far only) league win over Arsenal was at home by 1-0 in 1901-02 (they were called Woolwich Arsenal at the time)
Our first (and so far only) league win over Spurs was at home by 2-1 in 1935-36
Our first (and so far only) league win over Manchester Utd was at home by 4-0 in 1901-02 (they were called Newton Heath at the time, it is the same club)
Our first (of 3) league wins over Liverpool was at home by 4-1 in 1954-55; the following season we did the double over them, 1-0 at Home and 2-1 Away
Our first (of 2) league wins over Everton was at home by 3-1 in 1951-52; the following season we went one better and beat them 3-0 at Home

Very good question Dude, I cannot think of one at the moment, maybe The Red Baron, who has far superior knowledge, might know better?
Two memories do come to mind though. When I first started following Rovers in the early sixties Rovers goalkeeper was called Fred Potter - and yes he was a bit of a wizard, and occasionally hung theatrically from his crossbar which seems more common these days. But he could also play centre-forward, and I believe scored some goals in reserve matches. He made one appearance for Rovers as a forward, I think after he lost his place as first choice goalkeeper, and we had an injury crisis. He didn't score sadly.
I also remember about that time watching us play Chesterfield, and their goalkeeper John Osbourne was injured. There were no substitutes in those days, and I think the injury must have been hand or shoulder because he could no longer keep goal, but he was able to stay on the field and he played up front. He was useful and caused us problems and although I think he came close he didn't score.
If it hasn't happened I think it is only a matter of time with what goalkeepers get up to these days :thumbsup: :scarf:

As my moniker suggests, I lived in the Netherlands for a long time (36 years) and for a while in Leiden. They still have huge celebrations there each October 3rd to celebrate the breaking of the Spanish siege of the city in the 16th century. In all Spain occupied parts of the Netherlands for 158 years (although that included much of what is now Belgium which only came into existence in 1830). As I suggest above, the Dutch language survived the ordeal, so I don't speak Spanish :lol:
As you can see, relations are a lot better these days :lol:

In terms of goalkeepers scoring for us, it has never happened in a senior match.
In around 1983 we played a non-league team in a friendly and Willie Boyd got onto the scoresheet, although I believe he was playing outfield at the time.
In the late 1890s that great character Jack Eggett would wander upfield and join attacks if R Rovers were well on top. He scored a few times, all in friendlies with the exception of a Yorkshire League match against Huddersfield. Rovers won 14-0 and Jack scored the final goal.

I remember John Osborne coming out of goal and going out on the left wing. I think that it was his arm or shoulder that was the problem. He had a couple of cracking shots from distance. He later won the F.A. Cup with West Brom. Gordon Banks also started at Chesterfield so they must have had a decent scout in those days.

If I remember correctly, former Rovers keeper Stuart Nelson scored a perfectly good goal for Brentford at Belle Vue around 2004.
Alas it was disallowed!

That 16-game run is amazing and would have totally passed me by had you not flagged it up.
Because it spans two seasons I'd mentally pressed the re-set button at the start of this season, but that is an incredible record over 16 consecutive league games.

Remember that clear as day as I was stood on main stand level with Nelson as he belted it! We got away with that.

I have a vague memory of the Scunthorpe keeper hoofing a kick after a bounce over our keeper at the old showground at a night match.
Or is it my imagination?
Probably the late 70s or early 80s.
