He did not descend to using any vulgar adjectives to describe the performance and like a true boss man summed the night up by saying he thought we dominated throughout but just didn’t show the attacking quality that he knows we have.

Embarassing going on about advantage. What would he be saying had we scored? It was ages.

First goal was on Gibson. Although he was on the edge of their box we had a big opportunity to score and he shockingly just gave it away. His performance last night was as poor as you will ever see and was rightly hooked off at HT. Early performances from him have shown me why Carlisle were happy to let him go. When the chips are down he goes under. He’s half decent in a winning team.

One mistake, or even a few poor decisions doesn't deserve a character assassination. Let's be fair to him, he's added value and needs nurturing to become a better player.

McCann has empowered the players to have the freedom to make decisions on the pitch. Every player is different how they deal with that so they need guidance to go over why they did certain things and look at the alternatives. SO'D was big on this and thankfully most players bought into it, with only a couple who didn't get it.

Once you empower players with that responsibility, you just can't take it off them, you coach them to make better decisions without playing with the fear of making mistakes.

That first season in the Championship was a great example of sticking with those principles, often having loads of the ball while not having the killer instinct in the final third, often getting sucker punched, as we did last night.

We need to be patient and see this squad evolve. We should know from last season just how things can turn. We just need to keep going and I'm sure we won't need such a dramatic turnaround.

It was a good advantage by the referee nobody to blame but ourselves

My mate from Carlisle came down for the season opener and of course Gibson was discussed, told me he's a one good game in three - player.  Can impress but no consistency.

Folk said much the same of Molyneux, and still do.

Typical winger , they all tend to drift in & out of games. Maxwell's a big miss down the left , especially with his inverted runs. Hopefully him & Gibson can develop a good partnership down the left.

Not sure it's been said about Molly this year.

It’s interesting that since Sutton, the only league games we have lost have all been away and all been against very modest teams. Having Harrogate, Walsall and Newport beat you is quite odd given the far stronger sides we have stood up against away.

Well he’s not going to criticise his selections . Yet I can’t see why he hadn’t played Ironside along side Billy as he was the ideal player to play against their six footers . They had Billy in their pocket all night and restricted us to shooting from distance. We had large periods of effective possession but nothing that concerned them in the six yard box where Billy is at his best …
