What’s your favourite lyric quotes, one liners?
I’ll go first, seen as it was my idea..
“I would go out tonight, but I haven’t got a stitch to wear”
.. tops about everything I can think of..
But I also can’t ever forget:
“This place is death, with walls”
and:
“I learned the truth at seventeen”
I could go on.!

"Boy, you've been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down"
-
Son I'm 30, I only went with your mother cos she's dirty.

Time marches on never ending,
time keeps its own time,
Here we stand at beginning,
and then goes passing us by,
And I, I, I can dream for us all,
I hope I'm in a better state,
When here and now crumbles and falls
Full marks if you recognise the track.
Edit: just noticed, one liners. I'll have another go.

Ground Control to Monty Don
The testimonial silver’s gone
-
From Joe Jackson's "It's different for girls".
"You're all the same".
Bloody hell, I didn't realise he was singing about politics.

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
20 odd years on and still rings true.

Any song by Half Man Half Biscuit.
'They've been cooking on Blue Peter,
Now they're sampling the dishes,
I don't normally like tomatoes John,
But this is delicious'.
(And you picture Valerie Singleton running John Noakes tomatoey goo around her mouth).

“We all went down Torremolinos, and I pulled this bird from Pontefract,
Got a big red ring round the base of me penis, wasn’t Boots 17, that’s a fact!”

Nigel is a genius
I was torn between what I went for and " there a man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in Millets"
-
'Someone get a message through to Captain Snort,
They better start assembling the boys at the fort,
And keep Mrs Honeyman right out of sight,
Cos there's gonna be a riot down in Trumpton tonight'!!

Identify this one (without googling)
Hello, hello, who’s down there, who’s down there?
-
'Yeah I'd love to tell you all my problem, you're not from New York City you're from Rotherham'
-
‘Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away”.

Give a Philosophy student a glass of limeade, and he will ask 'Is this a glass of limeade?', and 'If so, why is it a glass of limeade?', and in a while, he'll die of thirst.

No one is likely to get my original post because it's dance music.
Sandy Riviera is that rarest species, a DJ producer who appreciates good lyrics.
This track came out when I was in N London. To say it was massive is an understatement. Every bar, every club were regularly playing it.

It just goes to show, dance music can be thoughtful and still really danceable.

I couldn’t pick one line out of this. Because it all rings so true.
You choose your leaders and place your trust
As their lies wash you down and their promises rust
You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns
And the public wants what the public gets
But I don't get what this society wants
-
Synthetic chiefs with frozen smiles
Charting unsteady courses
Hold the reins of history
High on their battle horses
And meeting as good statesmen do
Before the TV eyes of millions
Hand to hand
Exchange the lie
And pretend to make
The Clasp.

This lyric gets me every time.
We’re so incredibly, utterly devious
Making the most of everything
Even bottles and tins
Pick up the pieces and make them into something new
Is what we do
Underground, overground, wombling free
