Title: It’s a funny old game
Post by: StocksArmy on October 06, 2024, 08:57:42 am
Just find it bizarre looking at fixtures and results week after week. Over the last few years the football league has shown that anybody really can beat anybody. I have never been so angry walking out of a Rovers game as I was last Saturday. Fast forward a week later, 6pts, 2 clean sheets, joint top of the league and the world is a better place. It really is going to be a rollercoaster of a season.

We do have a fickle fan base too, last Saturday was all doom and gloom in how we aren’t good enough for promotion.

A week later HMS piss the league is back

I think that’s footy fans all over, fickle as.
But that’s what makes it so great, lose!, well that’s it! Ruined weekend, everyone’s fault, he’s rubbish, ref is a this and that. Win and it’s wonderful, nothing’s going to annoy me this weekend, such and such is best player we’ve ever signed …etc.
That’s sport, lifts you up then dumps you back down again.
Lovely stuff!

This is what makes football the greatest game on earth, the ups & the downs is all part & parcel of the journey.

No. It's the most marketed, exploited and exploitative game on Earth

Don’t judge teams on one result. Before the Chesterfield game we were in a group of 3 or 4 teams that were the best in the division. After the game that still remained the same.

Who's exploiting our club then, Bob? Terry Bramall doesn't take money out, he puts money in.

In the meantime we put our money in because we love football, and we love Rovers.

He said the game, Steve... nothing about Doncaster Rovers.

He said "no" to the statement that football is the greatest game on Earth. We all know that it is.

I agree that it can be exploited at certain levels.

I cannot help observing that there is an enduring correlation, confirmed season after season, between results and referee performance.

Our fan base are no more fickle than any others.
We’ve proved in recent years when it was year after year of absolute shite, we were actually reasonably patient.

Well that’s another great thing, the pyramid system gives supporters the chance to watch real football, from Barnsley to Bognor Regis Town.
It’s pretty easy to steer clear of the premiership cheats, the over coaching, the ridiculous salaries, the pampered players, the ludicrous hairdos, the sanitised VAR, the plastic supporters with two team scarves, the endless inane punditry, the lies, the moans of playing too much before jetting of to a tournament in Singapore…… etc etc etc.
Stick with lower league, it’s still a joy…

Yes. No question it is exploited & driven by money higher up. But it is the greatest game, & always will be, in my opinion.
