Title: Penalty takers
Post by: Bailey Vickerage on October 21, 2024, 02:47:38 pm
Penalty records for us since 03/04 (including shootouts), (5+ scored).

Michael Mcindoe 15/18
Joe Ironside 10/11
Paul Heffernan 10/12
Ben Whiteman 9/10
Nathan Tyson 9/10
Brian Stock 8/9
Liam Mandeville 8/10
Chris Brown 7/7
Billy Sharp 7/8
Niall Mason 6/6
James Coppinger 5/7
Andy Williams 5/7

A few names I’d forgot about here regarding penalty takers but also shows how good Ironside has been for us from the spot and some of them under massive pressure.

Interesting to see Liam Mandeville took so many penalties at 21-22 years old.

He took a Charity Penalty for me and stepped back about 6 yards before belting it into bottom left corner

Previous year Nathan Tyson took one and told Marco M to dive to his left and he rolled it into opposite corner , both winning 50 quid for TIA Greyhound Charity

I couldn't believe Manders blasting it but he knew what he was doing. Later I found out we shared same Birthday ( just in a different century as Rovers dude was happy to point out  )

Didn’t realise Mason had taken as many as 6 and don’t really remember Brown taking any. Interesting that Ironside now has a better record than Whiteman, Heffs, McIndoe & Stock who I would all consider to be excellent penalty takers for us.

I wonder if anyone knows how many penalties were converted by Ian Snodin. I don’t remember him missing any.

I don't  remember Ian missing any either Branton. He was always calm and in control. Sort of like Brian Stock was.

Interesting to see Liam Mandeville took so many penalties at 21-22 years old.

I was also interested to see this because to be honest I don't really remember him taking any.

I remember the Hartlepool game in November 2016 where I had just been lucky enough to bag the Alliance 10k at HT

In second half we got a Pen and LM stepped up. I remembered Charity Penalty see above and said " bottom left with power" and BOOM

But those are the only 2  I can remember

Incidentally the details I have seen does not list LMs winner in 90 th minute as Penalty so my memory may be playing tricks again

I've looked back to the day and luckily I did remember my 10k win correctly but not the Pen (as I thought )

One his misses was away at Plymouth as it's also the game Copps got sent off for strangling their child killer Keeper for winder Liam up after his miss. Odious turd of a man deserved more than a strangling.

Copps throttling their keeper is my cover photo on Twitter/X accompanied with Sarge throttling Barton.

Didn’t have a clue Mandeville or Mason ever took a pen for us never mind 16 between them

As the OP suggests, some of them could have been in shootouts. Although I can't recall that many, maybe Oldham?? Or maybe in JPT, Tin Pot Cup games? Ooh, did Mason take one at Charlton?

Mason definitely took some penalties in league football. Probably after Marquis missed again and before Whiteman became established, I remember us getting a penalty and him stepping up to a general reaction of “WTF?” Was a decent penalty though and he took 2 or 3 after that.

I recall LM scoring a pen away at Mansfield in a 1-1 draw.

Mandeville took a lot of his in shootouts but also took a few in the league during his purple patch.

Niall Mason was the penalty taker during the first season back in league 1 under Fergie.

I scored three out of four against Jan Budtz when they did the season ticket promotion the other year.
The other one hit the bar!

Man City could have done with you in that League Cup shootout.

Correct, BV. I remember Mason's excellent penalty at Bristol Rovers to give us a 1-0 win during Fergie's tenure.
