Title: Doncaster city fc
Post by: Pinter777 on November 05, 2024, 09:34:47 am
Results seem to be going there way of lately, a pipe dream or can anybody actually see them becoming a threat to DRFC?any thoughts on the whole saga?

With respect … the question is laughable !

If they were to make it up into the Northern Premier League and build their own decent ground with a 4000-ish capacity then maybe things would look a little more threatening. That would require someone to throw a lot of money their way over an extended period.

As with Ken Richardson and to an extent John Ryan, potentially there comes a point when there isn't enough money in the pot to keep on throwing the amount required to be successful at a higher level.

Last season's outcome seems to suggest there isn't a huge amount of money available to compete at much higher levels but I suppose it depends on how motivated someone is to throw ever bigger amounts.

If there really was someone with the money and interest in throwing it in the direction of a Doncaster based club you'd think they might wan't to start with the club already with two feet on the ladder.

Still think there are ulterior motives behind this

Some of their up coming fixtures are against Worksop Town Res, Ollerton Town, Staveley Miners Welfare Res and Rossington FC Res, and with all due respect to those teams and players it’s a long way off playing semi pro teams with grounds over 2500 capacity, Kettering Town FC

Yes, they own the Doncaster City name. I suspect someone thinks they will make some money if Rovers want to buy it.

However unlikely

I’m struggling to read between the lines, whose “someone” and what would rovers buy? The name or the club?
Title: Re: Doncaster city fc
Post by: Draytonian III on November 05, 2024, 09:35:03 pm
Why on earth would the owners of Doncaster Rovers FC present or future want to buy a name of another club, Rovers are 145 years old, City are 3 years old . With Doncaster becoming a city has very little if anything to do with the football club, one of the city owners sons has got a due registration forms with Retford FC, those at the side of the railway line, who are the lower team in Retford. So even he doesn’t seem to much confidence in the city team, it’s all a front for more building work/development to the north of Bawtry

Not if they would fail the fit and proper test(Whatever it is,I believe its not as simple as that),but my jist is,maybe they not able to start with the club already on ladder.
As for some saying will/could they become a threat in future if they climb the pyramid,Not at alll in my opinion, 2 league clubs in Doncaster would be healthy competition and be a bit of a money spinner with proper local derbies etc.
For whats its worth,I doubt they will ever reach the National league north, nevermind national league, but (big) IF they do,I will respect them more than MK Dons and Man city womens teams, because unlike them, they would have earned their place in the football leagues through promotions not bought their place in the league.

The level they are playing is no better than Sunday League, so with the players they’ve got it should be an absolute doddle. To be honest it’s so poor it’s not even worth talking about on here. I think a certain person will have lost interest before they’re anywhere near anything competitive but who knows.

Where is the threat, clubs get to the level they deserve to be at, and the Doncaster area would be well served to have a top class non league team.
Compared with Mansfield, Chesterfield, and Sheffield  the Doncaster area is a desert of top class local sides in football compared with those areas and Lancashire.
Leeds have Guisley and Farsley plus others  just lower , Even Grimsby and Hull decent local sides at semi pro.
They all add something to football in that area, Places like North Ferriby and all the others a  pleasure to visit and enjoy both a game and the facilities.
The best of luck to them, they deserve to do well for just trying to reach a higher standard.

I’d love to see Armthorpe, Askern or Rosso making a go of it, I think Rosso are doing great to be fair. Just not bothered about some project  piloted by a narcissistic crook.

Don’t get me started on that, it makes me physically sick! Especially with the chinless wonder following him about like a sick puppy wanting petting!

We had this in Barnsley a few years ago with Shaw Lane , local money man , rising through the league's and apparently coming for Barnsley FC !!! .

For a few years they did well , they even made the first round of the FA Cup and drew Mansfield Town which was covered live by BT Sports .

These kind of projects always tend to end the same way , they run out of money never to be heard of again which is exactly what happened with Shaw Lane .

The smart strategy is to provide an alternative to Rovers when they are away from home and exist with them rather than trying to emulate .

Unfortunately there are some big egos involved with these kind of projects .

What is a bit poor is that we don't have a side even in the Northern Premier League Division One East. That would be a good level for Rossington or Armthorpe. Would be playing sides like Bradford Park Avenue, Bridlington Town and Gartforth Town.

For those who don't know the pyramid, here it is with some names you might know for perspective;

League 2 - Rovers
National League - Oldham, York
National League North - Scunny, Darlo
Northern Premier League - Gainsborough, Macclesfield, Worksop
Northern Premier League East - Sheffield FC, Emley
Northern Counties East Premier - Rosso, Frickley
Northern Counties East One - Armthorpe, Thorne
Central Midlands North - Donny City, Bentley, Hatfield

They are 7 promotions away from us. Not really a going concern.

I'd say Peterborough Sports are more of a threat to Peterborough Utd than Donny city are to us.

They're in National North, just 3 tiers below Posh.

When Doncaster City don’t get their planning permission for “North of Bawtry” they will end up playing Sunday morning football for a couple of seasons before it goes …. ..

A few changes registered on Companies House in recent days:

- Janis (Willie's wife) McKay's directorship has been terminated
- Janis McKay has been removed as a person of significant control
- Joshua Rutherford has been appointed as the only director
- Joshua Rutherford has been listed as a person with significant control, with more than 75% of the shares
- the registered address has been changed from Martin Grange Farm in Bawtry to an address in Scawthorpe

Looks like maybe McKay's pipe dream has come to an end.

Looks like this lad is a director of Kixx which is one of those franchise football academy things to fleece parents and sell the dream that their kids have a pathway into professional football.

I took my oldest to Kixx when he was a toddler. I certainly didn’t feel fleeced, it was fun for them.

As it should be.

It's when they are around 7 or 8 years old it starts getting stupid.

There's plenty at it,  Mini kicks, little Messys etc.
Come across quite a few of these coaches who walk around as though they are Pep Guardiola
