Looks absolutely appalling on BBC Weather.
If the game goes ahead that will be good but they are already speculating the A66 might be shut due to snowfall
Hope it all comes to nowt though
-
Forecast rain and 7 degrees. Should be fine

So will it rain or be fine? ;-)
-
40mph winds and driving rain! Hope it’s under cover!

A69 an alternative route ( Newcastle to Carlisle) if A66 is closed. Or M62 then M6. I don’t want to go M62 way. I have an extra 1.5 hours on top of you lot from Doncaster, coming from Boston.
Hoping A66 is open.
-
Snow warning in place now with a rapid thaw Saturday evening
-
Temps not getting much above zero right up to kick off . Heavy rain (snow?) forecast sat am also. And reports of -11 overnight in parts of Cumbria.not very positive
-
Just hope they make an early decision
-
Much better to rely on accuweather or the like than BBC in my experience.
Accuweather hourly weather predicts 7 degrees at kick off and mainly rain on saturday morning with possibility of some early snow but rain chances reducing as the day goes on. Also windy the morning of the match but wind speeds reducing towards kick off. Met office saying similar although predicting temperatures will be slightly slower to rise.
Of course they might be wrong. What will be will be.

Of those three route options, Spilsby, A66 would be the one most likely to be closed. Travelling from Donny I'd be going M62/M6.

A66 is not a bad road now and unless they have any bad snow Friday night it will be open

The other significant feature is that between now and when the rain starts there will be no more frost; it will remain just above 0 deg between now and then, so the ground has a good chance to thaw out. Looking at the local paper on line the only snow stories were the general warning on Tuesday and a report on Wednesday of only a “smattering of snow”.

Looks like the frost may not be the issue by Saturday afternoon, but waterlogging might be, judging by the volume of rain expected from 4am Saturday and through the daytime.

Sounds like I’d better not fly home in my shorts on Sunday then lol!

Did you get searched at the airport Filo

Did you get searched at the airport Filo
No decided against taking any flares just in case lol!
I must only look dodgy at Football Ground turnstyles, mind you the wife was singled out for a search, she was fuming

Allegedly a Russian submarine was ‘spotted’ in the North Sea some 25 miles off the coast of Teeside today.
According to the military advisor of the ‘Daily Star’, the communications between the captain of the Russian submarine & its base in Russia once having briefly surfaced, the Russian submarine captain quickly ‘flashed off’ a message which allegedly translated as “Nothing to see here. Request mission to Norway for crew to benefit from warmer climes”.

BBC weather says gusty winds and heavy rain.
Temperature about 11 degrees!

The forecast on my phone for Carlisle tomorrow looks pretty awful.
I’m glad I’m not going to that one.

At least on the basis that two of them are likely to blow away.

I still fancy chancing the A66, or is that just foolish considering the advice to avoid it?
-
Fine up here on the 66 at the moment however it does get cold on the top it was -8.5 at brough yesterday morning.
-
Well if you plan at Scotch Corner to go West
Take it easy, it's the road that's the best
Get your kicks on Route A66.

Heads up that Avanti have cancelled all trains north of Preston tomorrow.
This will affect anyone who (like me) for was heading to the game up the west coast mainline.

Wrong kind of rain?

Yeah, share your pain. This was the only Rovers game I'd been able to wangle getting to between August and February.

Any talk of a pitch inspection?

The A66 is closed from Scotch corner because of snow, I’m hopeful that it might reopen before 10am.

Been raining since about 4am in Keswick. No snow here. All about volume of rain, and whether the pitch can cope, or surrounding areas flooding.

Bedale , North Yorkshire.
Lovely little market town

Been raining since about 4am in Keswick. No snow here. All about volume of rain, and whether the pitch can cope, or surrounding areas flooding.
I remember twice Warwick Road area flooding so I presume they improved the flood defences
15 years or so , might be more recent the Papers carried a story of a Goldfish being found on their Pitch , and appealed for the owner to collect it
Maybe won't be quite that bad today

I’m in Keswick. It has snowed a bit but now turning to rain and it hasn’t settled. It has been hard ground all week with frosts but temperatures going way up today. Waterlogging is the only risk I think and I don’t think it’s much of a risk. In my opinion the game will be on. Only my opinion based on what I see up here and forecasts.
-
I remember a night game where the rain was being whipped along almost horizontally
I had a ticket c/o a bloke that lived there and so was in main stand. Our fans were still getting wet in the opposite Stand despite being right at the back and way beyond the corner flag
Appalling conditions and Carlisle were desperately seeking points to avoid going non league
As the game wore on the wind dropped every now and again and Leo FW scored the winner on 70 minutes. I think Carlisle had only won one of 19 games at that point
If its that bad today it will be BAD
-
About 3” of snow where I am in Bradford. It is now turning to rain though and Temp to go up from 1 degree at mo to 12 or 13/this aft.
-
I’m sacking it off. I have a high sided vehicle. If the A66 is shut I suspect the M62 will be extra busy and probably take ages to get across. It sounds like driving up the M6 will take us deeper into the storm.
Getting there could be an adventure but then doing the return in the dark is not worth the risk
I’ll watch it on the tv instead
I was mainly going so my lad could visit a new ground but I’ll take him next time
Safe travels to all that go

Road closures on A1, ffs, I think we have to bite the m62 bullet

Halfway up the main stand and getting wet!
There was a photo of Andy Warrington trying to get the ball over the halfway line as the rain and wind were horizontal

All trains from Scotland cancelled and M74 shut at 2 places. Decided to put on my coal fire (smokeless) and listen to the match.
Gutted.
-
I think the 62 will be fine. Not as bad of a road as people make out. Be 3 hours from Donny that way with the toe down.

Tranmere away was a similar story last season. Horrific getting there for that Friday night game. Players seemed to make more of a point applauding the fans that went that night too I noticed.

BIG incident on M62
After Junction at top of M18 after Thorne and Westbound towards Leeds
Sorry
-
I can't believe there hasn't even been a pitch inspection mentioned tbh.
Safe travels to all the brave souls heading up there, I might have been one had it not been for work.

A1 closed before the a66 looking on Google maps right now

You had my deepest sympathy that night for sure
I was dry as a bone on opp side of Ground and could not believe the rain was parallel to floor ang clearly getting Rovers fans most of first half
Never seen rail like it apart from Grimsby that night

Carlisle have posted that the car park is shit due to being waterlogged but no mention of the match or anything

Good news

Just spoke to their box office, def no inspection planned, pitch and surrounds all fine according to them. Just the joys of the a69 from Newcastle then
-

Ha ha I never even thought of that being a typo, just thought they were being honest
-
It is definitely on.
Carlisle United have just issued statement saying: "There are no issues with the pitch ahead of today’s game against @drfc_official- see you all later!".
-
Bradford City match postponed after pitch inspection and heavy rain melting the snow so M62 should be clear.
-
The game where LFW scored and the hoardings blew off was Sat 29 Nov 2003.
Sure it was dark before kick off though and so definitely felt like a night game.

Heads up that Avanti have cancelled all trains north of Preston tomorrow.
This will affect anyone who (like me) for was heading to the game up the west coast mainline.
Bloody hell Glen, sorry to hear that. How frustrating.
Why have they done this?
due to the bad weather forecast
I'm booked on the Skipton to Carlisle route (via Settle) with Northern Trains and no word of cancellations for them yet.
Ah well, I've finally been thwarted so that's game up for me.
Set off walking from home at 8.30am to the bus stop in my village to get to Skipton, through deep snow and blowing a blizzard. Waited for ages with no bus arriving, getting soaked, until finally learning that a bus had slid off the road and all subsequent buses were cancelled.
Trudged back home, resigned to having missed my 09:58 train from Skipton to Carlisle. Was drying out and warming up when I got an alert on my phone informing me that my train was delayed to 10:25.
I looked at the clock and thought I could maybe make it if I drove to Skipton myself.
Scraped the snow off my car and set off.
I got to Skipton station 3 minutes before the train was due, fumbled with my phone to book and pay for the car park, and dashed into the station.
A staff member said "No trains to Leeds or Bradford this morning love".
"That's OK, I'm going to Carlisle" I said.
She pointed at the information screen which read "09:58 train to Carlisle cancelled due to damaged overhead cables".
Ah well, nobody can say I didn't try.
God luck to all you intrepid travellers. Stay safe and give the lads a cheer from me!

I remember travelling to my brother’s in Skipton from Brussels for a home game .That Saturday morning the village was cut off by snowfall during the night making it impossible to get out . Donny was fine and the game was played in bright sunshine !
I always smile when pundits say things like ..Donny fans will have travelled a long way for today’s match from South Yorkshire .Most people on this forum live many miles from Doncaster . .
-
The drive over in the M62 and M6 has been fine. Very wet, but fine. 3hrs pretty much to the second.
-
In town now, rain has stopped!!! Game on!!
-
At least the A66 was open for the return journey, it was a bit foggy near Scotch corner but we knocked an hour off the trek to the ground.

Wasn’t half as bad as I thought it would be when set off this morning just very wet going all way then pretty mild when we got there and then way back just a tad foggy on last bit of a66

Can’t see why A66 was shut this morning tbh

Hearts like lions , every Fan however they got there
Huge respect to every one of them
-
Coming back, the rain was that torrential, probs for the best we stuck to the m6, still passed 2 cars in the ditch, not driving to the conditions..

As I was driving south on the M6, I noticed that the electronic signage didn’t say that the A66 was closed, so I chose to go that way and the road was eerily quiet, it was a old choice or us.

don’t think we had hardly any rain coming back just fog on the a66,google maps still said it was shut but asked national highways on Twitter and they said it opened up again just after 4ish,and back for 7.30

I did the same, though I saw on twitter that the road had been reopened. Very ropey though, the closer you got to Scotch Mist Corner you got, the worse it was. Not much bothers me when driving but not a fan of fog.
-
Possibly the worst fog I’ve driven in
