Is fast becoming a weaklink in midfield.
What has happened to him, looks slow and robotic and isnt having a impact whatsoever.
Maybe time to drop him to give him a kick up the arse
-
Had another poor game for us today !
-
We’re trying to get him to do too much with the ball that’s the problem
-
Plays better at the back
-
He’s never been as good as people have said but he was fine today.
-
He was excellent today.
Not sure which match some were watching.
Olowu m.o.m though he was fantastic & has been all season.
-
Kelly was the one who was poor today. Hasn't got a clue what to do once he's ran forward with it

He played very well also.
If he had shot & scored instead of squaring the ball we would have won
His overall game though was very good.

You've pretty much clarified my comment there with that example.

First half I thought Kelly was our only threatening player. Bailey was always in the thick of it but no more than that imo. We did well to get a grip second half but quality is still lacking. Special word for our fans who I thought were great.
-
I also thought Bailey was a bit off his game today and in the last few matches.
-
He’s never been as good as people have said but he was fine today.
Unbelievable comment, just nonsense.
-
He’s never been as good as people have said but he was fine today.
It really does seem at times like your obsessed with having a different opinion to the majority.
It’s a strange comment as I don’t think “people” have ever claimed he is going to go for millions, or play in the premier league.
From what I have read the majority see him as a consistent, reliable, hardworking decent player…no more.
So are you saying he isn’t even that?
-
Bailey is excellent and allows those around him to do the more noticeable stuff

I’m saying he’s exactly that. Maybe my perception of people’s opinion of his is wrong. Feel that, at least at times, people speak about him as a player that’s playing a couple of levels below where he could be.
-
I thought both Kelly and Bailey were excellent today.
-
Thought Kelly had a good 1st and bailey just gos about his business and does the ugly stuff know one really notices, maybe it’s because cos people can’t have a moan about sterry so jump on sumone else’s back
-
Had a good game, is he the latest scapegoat? We just need to put the ball in the net.
-
Not with the specific intention of being at odds with Gaz lad who often talks sense I would name Bailey as the first on my team sheet , on the strength these first 17 games .He is best in front of the back line as link man .PK is improving game by game but we have still to see the best of Hurst , Sbara, and Clayton .

No GazLaz, it’s specifically this comment which I find incredible, and true to your regular arrogance:
“He’s never been as good as people have said …..”
-
I actually agree with GazLaz on this one. Bailey’s a really solid player, committed & versatile, but there’s been a lot of hype around him over his time here that I think has been over the top. I just searched “Owen Bailey” and one of the first threads I clicked on had these comments:
“Best prospect for years; scouts will be circling.”
“McCann just let him off the leash last night and it turns out he's a one man wrecking ball.”
“If we play this right he will be sold for a few million quid in the future.”
I’m sure they’re have been plenty more comments like these. I’m not sure thinking comments like these are over the top is arrogant.
As ever he was decent and a 6/7 out of 10 performance today.

It is possible to see where the fans barometer of a players perceived ability is and feel what the expectation is from them though isn’t it? It’s then possible to spot players that have a higher expectation than they can possibly deliver on a consistent basis over a long period of time.
The fact that the OP is alluding to the fact OB is the weak link is cementing my point. Bailey is fine but some people’s expectations aren’t being met by his performances due to their expectations being to high. Fairly straight forward thinking isn’t it? Hardly arrogance.
-
Think back to last year the times when Bailey played in midfield. Without a ball player next to him he was average.
When he did have one next to him or when he played in defence he was superb.
-
He’s never been as good as people have said but he was fine today.
?
I’m sorry can you elaborate?
Today was his ‘worst game’ I’ve seen him play for us. He seemed sluggish in the tackle, his one to one battles in midfield he seemed to lose more than he won, shots on target were poor but to say “He’s never been as good as people have said…..” does him an injustice given all the excellent game’s previous to today he’s played for us.

Some posters do like to put others down when they are making their point-bit unnecessary but i guess it takes all sorts.

That’s what I call multi-tasking.
One searching the forum for ‘hyperbole’ on threads exposing Bailey’s contributions to the side while at the same time keeping your tongue up the arse of GazLaz!
Bailey has been the outstanding signing thus far of GM’s tenureship in my humble opinion.
Who’s been yours as matter of interest, without your pal?
-
When he first joined we were rubbish for 5-6 months, our entire team was getting injured. Him and Ironside though never got injured put in consistent performances each weak sort of 7/10 every game. The bar was so low this time last year. I do like him but I agree some went way over the top a year ago.

Is being McCann’s outstanding signing the same as being a potential £2 million sale or being Championship level? He arguably is McCann’s best signing but you could equally make a case for Ironside and any one of Craig, TLT or Adelakun, but again, even if Bailey unequivocally was it doesn’t mean that folk haven’t been over the top in their praise.
I don’t think it’s worth responding to the personal digs which I think are unwarranted and unnecessary but sadly not unexpected.

He’s never been as good as people have said but he was fine today.
Agree, he's a good player. But never really got the love in with him.
Thought he played OK yesterday aswell.
-
I think a lot of people have forgotten how consistently good Bailey was last season in a very poor team for the majority of the 1st 27 matches.
Owen Bailey along with Joe Ironside pretty much carried our team over that period. Without those 2 I shudder to think where we would have been in the table and how many points we would have had going into that game away at Sutton Utd on 2nd Feb.
Mathew Craig then suddenly came to life after his induction period and Adulukan gave us that spark that transformed our team into a winning machine. Owen Bailey was then allowed to play with more freedom and looked an outstanding player at this level.
That’s why there was a love in for him if that’s the right terminology for praise he deservedly got from the vast majority of our fan base.
How good Owen Bailey can be is an unknown until we go up a level.
Personally I think he is more than good enough to be a very influential player in our team in League 1
-
Owen Bailey is the type of player that all teams at our level & League 1would love to have. He is super consistent without being spectacular and can be seen as the glue in the team that makes a team function well. I believe that he has the ability to play in League 1 but that is probably his limit. He is invaluable for any team at our level wishing to get promotion.
-
Bailey has been tremendous for us. He plays every week and does exactly what he’s supposed to do very well. For a while he was our best centre back and best right back.
All players lose form occasionally. Maybe the current run is the first instance of that. Also he’s being asked to do more going forward this season as we’ve not found the midfielder to do that job consistently. That’s not his strength. He’s a defensive midfielder or an actual defender. That’ll do for me.
I’ve no idea whether he could sign for a ‘big club’ or not. But I’m sure he can go up one level with us, maybe two.
-
I agree with both previous 2 posts,Im surprised he has come in for so much critism from some, and don't forget he is also Captain while Wood is out,and I think he does a great job of it,he is always straight to the ref or our players with advice/discussions when needed, look at Molly yesterday when he got the yellow,I thought he is likely to get sent off today,he seemed to have a bee in his bonnet and was losing it,Bailey obviously tried to calm him and thankfully it probably worked.
