Grant give your head a wobble with that team selection. Adapted and overcame with the subs at half time

Thought it was a stonewall penalty in the first half on Gibson.

Of course Kettering played their hearts out as expected, and we had 2 or 3 cleared off the line..  another day it’s 3-1 to us in 90 mins.

Great for the neutrals - Kettering in the game for 120 mins but they had nowt to lose.

Next..

Pitch was terrible, there was no way we could play the way we want to do on that.

For me though we are desperately missing a matty Craig in the middle, the midfield at the minute just isn’t creating or supplying enough for our forwards.

As for the penalty, BBC replay showed the keeper got a touch on the ball

Agree we're lacking in centre mid, we looked so lightweight there today.
Good grit shown by the lads today though, that was a pure battle out there, as you say job done.

So as long as you get a touch on the ball it doesn’t matter what else you do (unless it’s violent conduct of course) If that is a correct interpretation of the rule then make sure you touch the ball and then you can do whatever you want to the other player!

Not strictly true mate but I get your drift.

Just back; blimey that was always going to be a tough gig.

We're through which was the main aim.

Praying for a good home draw.

Kettering played their hearts out, pitch like a ploughed field, didn’t create much but we did well to win that and happy to be in the next round!  :boxing:

I could have sworn I saw potato sprouting up in the horrendous excuse for a playing surface.

I'm surprised in this day and age, there's should be no excuse for poor playing surfaces.

When you look at the autumn and winter we've had so far there should be no reason why even none league clubs shouldn't have a decent surface, even at this time of year.

Plus you'd think with them being top of their league they can obviously play at their level so a decent playing surface should be a prerequisite.

Its 2024 not 1924.

Said just after the draw came out when I looked they have some pretty good firepower with the strikers they have. It was never going to be as easy as some reckoned. But we got there in the end

That wasn't a potato it was the bollock that Kelly dropped when he gave the ball away.

Keeper did get a touch but there is no way that Gibson couldn't have gone round him or leapt over him and tapped it in

So is all that wiped out just because he touched it ?

Salah got a similar one later when knocking ball wider

I had to laugh when home fans were chanting the Referees a w..... at the end ( I'm assuming it was them) as he gave them virtually everything

How did he not Yellow Card that Stroher at least once for example ?

Playing surfaces like you want DD don't come in a Lucky Bag they cost serious amounts of investment initially and ongoing.  It should be no surprise to anyone that they don't prioritise the playing surface above what they put out on top of it.

The ground is leased and Kettering have purchased some land. Below is an extract from football ground guide
https://footballgroundguide.com/leagues/conference/conference-north/kettering-town.html
The Club have purchased some suitable land off Scott Road in North Kettering, where they hope to build a new stadium. The Club have a lease on Latimer Park until 2042 and is believed that it would be retained for reserve and youth academy sides. If the new stadium does not happen then the Club would look to further develop Latimer Park.

The sheer determination and will of people behind the likes of Kettering astounds me, and there are 100's of them up and down our Country. Freely entering into a never ending struggle just to survive, never mind grow and develop - These people and the fans, supporters and benefactors of such clubs are the true heroes of football not the overpaid, overhyped tosspots inhabiting much of the premier league, SKY, BBC and all the other media hanger on's.

Phew that feels better.

I was talking in relative terms, no one expects them to have a top of the range Desso Grassmaster but come on, if Green Thumb can turn my patch of grass into a passable lawn for 30 quid a quarter i'm quite sure the chemicals exist to turn any football pitch into something half decent and better than slumming it on something worse than Elmfield park!!

Your answer only shows how little you know about sports turf technology.  The drainage and root zone and specialist grass varieties required for a functioning football pitch is entirely different to any domestic patch of grass.

Never mind the science behind it - a bloody cricket roller would have been a good start! ;)
