Title: Update
Post by: Spilsby Red on December 18, 2024, 06:14:14 am
I posted just before the Kettering game that I had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Saw neuro specialist at QMC yesterday. It is 2.5 inches in diameter. Just above/ back 5cm from my right eye. It can’t be removed as my main arteries for blood are going through my tumour.
Going to have a biopsy, hopefully soon. That has its dangers. Could be looking at chemo/ radiotherapy to halt/ slow down  the growth. At big risk of fits. Not driving now. No footballs  matches for a while. Gutted, it was my son and my time.
Thanks for all the previous support.

When I saw that you had posted an update this morning I was hoping to see some better news than what you have written.
You have a battle on your hands then but with all of us wishing you well the power of healing thoughts may help you along the way.
Good luck matey and here’s hoping things turn out good for you.

Very sorry to read this news Spilsby.
Let’s hope the available treatments open to you do the trick.
I’m sure we on here would be able to help you get to a game if you’re up to it.
Best wishes to you and your son.

My granddaughter had something similar but not quite as complicated. The NHS team were brilliant and luckily her tumours were benign. She just has yearly check ups now. I hope that you get a similar result Spilsby. I’m sure that the consultant and his team will give you the best treatment available. Medicine has come a long way in the last few years and can achieve remarkable results.
Good luck and hope that you are back watching the Rovers before too long.
If you are up to it we could maybe organise a collection on here to fund a private taxi return journey to and from the Keepmoat for you and your lad. Maybe a couple of his mates as well.
You could get a game in without the added worry of the expense.

That sounds a little more positive Idler. Hope that's the prognosis and not worse.

I too will be very happy to contribute to idler's taxi suggestion.

Sorry to hear this Spilsby.

I don't know you but as a fellow Rover I send you my very best wishes.

As you can see from the responses, there is loads of goodwill coming your way from your fellow fans and I hope this helps to lift your spirits a little.

Well done Idler for your post and I think that is an excellent suggestion regarding clubbing together for a taxi if Spilsby feels that would be of help.

Thank you all for your messages. Unfortunately it’s a waiting game for the biopsy then result. Trying to keep positive. Idler, thanks for your message about your daughter. Medicine has come a long way as for a taxi, I couldn’t as it would cost a fortune from where I live. But thank you all

Thanks for the update Spilsby and hope things start looking more positive with the biopsy. I’d be happy to contribute as well if someone can set up.

In the meantime, I live in Lincolnshire, albeit a fair way from Spilsby (Bassingham area) and I know there are others as well, so perhaps we can help with a lift or two? Saturday 3pm home games are difficult for me as I visit my 85yr old dad beforehand & take him to put his bets on, breakfast etc.. but I’d be more than happy to pick you up when I can. I could do New Year’s Day for starters as I’m driving straight to the ground if you’d like to arrange that, then we could book more dates that I can do? Anyway, all the best and I hope things get better for you

Thanks LR. I live in Boston now. Going to spend time with people over Christmas and new year. Can look at some games, probably after my biopsy. Which will hopefully be soon

All the best Spilsby - if it helps, think of Rovers winning promotion in May to get you through these times.

Yes, no worries, please let me know - I’m closer to Boston than Spilsby so not a problem. Hoping you have a good Christmas & new year and your results bring good news.

Hi Spilsby Fellow Rovers supporter,

I hate the word C....... My wife is in the 14th year now and I can confirm the chemo worked. We try and make the most of every day that comes our way. At times that's difficult but we do appreciate them.

I was even able to watch the Tranmere game, my second game this season.(260 mile return journey)

Grit your teeth mate but they can work wonders.
