Title: Pace??
Post by: Thorney on December 29, 2024, 07:01:02 pm
Not just a reaction to todays game but.
Anyone else see that we have a serious lack of pace throughout this squad.
Apart from olowu at the back nobody else seems to win a 1v1 foot race with an oppsoing player, which was clearly visible for their goal today

I’ve been thinking exactly the same. Hurst isn’t slow but some plodders in the team. Huge issue I think.

Kyle hurst, has bags of it, and in my opinion our best player.

But other than that, we have zero pace at all.

Maxwell's got a decent burst in him , made a couple of good runs inside today but still looks a yard off it fitness wise at the minute. Can't play Bailey & Broadbent together as they're a bit 1 paced.

I actually thought there were signs of Maxwell coming back to form/fitness. Him and Gibson were much stronger down their side than Moly and Sterry.

Bags of pace & skill, but too lightweight & will put in a 1 in 10 performance in my opinion. He's been here long enough, & still not cemented a regular spot, under several managers, how long do we have to wait, far too inconsistent.

Gibson tracks back about many times as Harry Show time  Forrester used to

He got outdone a couple of times defensively which isn't like him. I think these niggly injuries may have knocked is confidence a little but hopefully he's over that now. Provides good balance and threat down the left , hopefully him & Gibson can develop a good partnership. Sterry's got a decent diagonal ball on him from deep but doesn't get up beyond Moly often enough.

The lack of pace is so obvious, it's like dad's army when we counter.

Hurst is quicker than most running with the ball but in terms of raw pace I wouldn’t say he’s particularly special.
Adelakun had a sort of powerful glide and would beat Kyle in a foot race.

Pace is a great attribute but you need to be able to do something when you get there. We've seen many a winger who have bags of it but two left feet and or the brain the size of a pea. Who was that Man U lad....err DJ Satona for example and  Jordi Huwula.

Sometimes pace can be made up a little with speed of thought, vision and skill.

Colchester were fitter-looking, possibly as fit a side as we are likely to see in this league which highlighted the contrast. Fortunately two of our key players, Olowu and TSL were quick enough too and their speed of reaction kept us in it.

Jon Taylor was too fast for his own good at times

JT was exceptionally quick but offered very little end product and IMO was a very poor finisher whenever he got a chance to score.
