Than Joseph Olowu.
My first memories are the 07/08 season so a lot of u will be able to think of some who might come close but I can’t think of any player we’ve had that is quicker over short or long distance.
A few that I thought of were Matty Blair, Jon Taylor and Alfie May but don’t think any of them were as quick as Olowu.
Also think he’s one of if not the quickest in the league, never see anyone beat him for pace and a few Col u fans said that not many beat Edwards for pace but Olowu made it look easy.
-
McIndoe was very quick, before that Jamie Lawrence and Steve Harper weren't slow either.
Difficult to say if they were quicker or slower than Joseph.
-
What about John Buckovina the South Yorkshire sprint champion? Remember seeing him at the Old Show Ground, Scunthorpe he was rubbing down the wing, then there was a sonic boom and next news he was at the corn flag.
-
Matty caudwell
Kevin Noteman
Steve Adams
Even andy Watson was quicker before his boots got too big
-
Mcindoe wasn’t VERY quick. He was sharp. Nothing more. And Caudwell looked quick cos his tiny little legs had move faster than others to get where he wanted to be.
For me the quick ones I remember would be Jermaine Mcsporran was rapid before his injury and to a lesser extent but very quick would have been Jonathan Forte when he could be arsed.
Someone tried to tell us Ro-Shaun Williams was some kind of sprint champion and potentially the quickest in the league. Based on what we saw, that was outlandish to say the least.
-
Always thought blundell was nippy?
-
Nathan Tyson
Johnathan Forte
-
Mustafa Dumbuya could shift
-
Might be a left field nomination but a young Ian Snodin could shift.
-
Simon Marples?
-
To answer your op, it depends very much of course on how many years you’ve been supporting Rovers surely?
There have been many ‘fast’ players over the years I personally have had the joy to watch who have played for Rovers in that wide winger position whose job it was in essence to get wide, receive the ball & take on then beat defenders with your pace in order to get either to the byline to cut a cross into the box or cross a ‘very good ball’ into the penalty area where your strikers know 9 times out of 10 they can make their runs to get on the end of that ball.
From my time (apart from the obvious like Macca) I give you Jermaine McSporran & of course Brian Usher.
Look them up. It will do your soul good.
-
Kevin Noteman was rapid.
-
Jermaine McSporran. Adelakun?
-
Jermaine mcsporran was very rapid.
Mcindoe had unreal pace over 20 yards, but his top speed was lacking.
Gregg Blundell had bags of pace
Jonathan forte was quick
Nathan tyson had bags of it
-
Two more that I’m surprised haven’t been mentioned - Lewis Guy and Richard Offiong.
Alfie May wasn’t quick, was he?
-
Did think of Dumbuya aswell (because of the chant mainly) but don’t think he was as quick as Olowu. Adelakun and Nathan Tyson are the other 2 mentioned that I Watched a lot of but don’t think any of them are close to Olowu tbh.
Says a lot aswell that when players have been asked quick fire questions like who’s the quickest player or what attribute players would take from a team mate a lot have said Olowus pace.
-
I think Haks was quicker than many gave him credit for,but he was not our player, just a loan,Jamie Lawrence,McIndoe,Jon Forte all spring to mind when thinking about our pacey players.
-
Can’t think of his name but Rashfords mate was a junior 100m sprint champion, not that we ever saw it like

Deji Sotona or Mustapha Dumbuya

Thats the one
-
Nathan Tyson first name to come to mind. What about Darren Byfield?
-
I seem to remember Ian Miller was pretty swift. A right winger who played at the same time as Kitchen and O'Callaghan. It could be that my memory is playing tricks on me. Everything was in black and white in those days!!
-
It's a very difficult one to judge. There were some quick off the mark and rapid over short distances and those who were quicker over longer runs. Always deceptive too with smaller players with a shorter stride.
I think I would agree with Jonothan Fort, Tyson and Ian Miller. One player more recently who was extremely rapid before injury did for him was....oh crikey, the blond lad on loan from Southampton...Simms?
But, going back to the OP, there sure aren't many over the years who could beat Olowu over 50 yards.
-
Miller, Usher, and Robinson were quick.
-
Ian Miller, I was informed won third place in fastest winger comp back in 1975-78 I saw him and he was very very fast
-
Based on my attendance at Rovers games spanning 58 years - Joe is simply so far quicker than anyone else over that period it's not even a contest. :rtid:
-
Deji Sotona was definitely quicker than Joe so he isn't even the fastest in recent years.
The fastest two in my time were Ian Snodin and Rufus Brevett and it's hard to separate them.
Although I remember some occasion when Rovers were trying to raise money or selling off the Belle Vue pitch and various players from past and present were timed running round it.
Snodin turned up and asked what the fastest was so far and easily beat it.
Apparently before Snod went to Leeds, Billy Bremner told Eddie Gray how fast he was and he thought he was exaggerating. So after he signed he arranged a race between Snod and Terry Phelan who was then thought to be by far the quickest at Leeds.
Snodin was so far in front at the finish, so the story goes, that he whipped round and ran backwards for the last ten yards and still won comfortably.
-
Todd miller the greatest ever rovers loan
-
Yes Ian Windy Miller - i would imagine Tony Woodcock might have been fast and that small Irish winger that came over and would always get smashed to bits - someone came up with his name on here a couple or more years ago .- went back to Ireland in the end from memory.

That was Tommy Aiken.
-
Maurice Robinson .
-
Without a shadow of doubt, Brian Usher. He would receive the ball on the wing and giving the defender two yards start knock the ball past him and beat him to the ball every time.
-
Alfie May wasn’t quick, was he?
May was the slowest quick player we've ever had.
Remember Arsenal away in the League Cup when he looked like he was clean through, but duly got hoovered up inside 25 yards, despite having a 15 yard head-start.

Olowu definitely quicker than Sotona, Deji was quick and also quick with the ball at his feet but Olowu would’ve done him in a race imo.
Remember last season when players were asked which attribute they’d take from a teammate and a lot said Olowus pace and that was while Deji was with us.
-
Nathan Tyson first name to come to mind. What about Darren Byfield?
Tyson is a good shout. Rapid.
-
I always thought Brendan O'Callaghan was rapid when he got going. Didnt he win somesort of running speed award pre Rovers.
-

LOL yes he was but he needed a runway like Finningley to get up to speed and have room to stop :woohoo: :woohoo:
-

Don’t recollect him playing very much
-
My mate told big Brendan O’Callaghan was our fastest player back in 75/76 Anderson had all the team do 2 lengths of the Pitch at BV Bren was a yard faster than anyone else
-
From the horses mouth of the present players Olowu over the short sprints Faulkner not far off top three or four long distance Faulkner and Flint in a different race to the others.
-
Wasn't Kevin Noteman a former sprinter?
-
I don't know if he was a sprinter but he was stopped from being a top amateur boxer by Leeds when in their academy, his older brother also boxed.
And he threw the best left hook ever at Belle View not detected by the officials it was that fast and laid a hatchet man out, and has had my admiration for it ever since, it only travelled about six inch.
-
Brian Usher
-
I’ve always thought Nathan Tyson was the quickest I’ve seen in a Rovers shirt, didn’t he score a break away against Blackpool when he sprinted with the ball for about 70 yards
-
Left hooks... Forgive me. Who was our mad Scottish centre half who laid out the Diamonds star forward with a swift un? Whoever he was I've loved him from that day to this. He scored in the first Endsleigh final at BV too.

Colin Sutherland
-
Ah!! Thank you!!!..I loved him. Completely bonkers.
BobG
-
Josh Simms had a good burst on him, I would say Kyle Hurst is one of the fastest I've seen when carrying the ball at his feet
-

It was, right in front of our fans and got away with it, shame Hulme got sent off not long after mind

May was the slowest quick player we've ever had.
Remember Arsenal away in the League Cup when he looked like he was clean through, but duly got hoovered up inside 25 yards, despite having a 15 yard head-start.
Yeah, that’s how I remember him as well. His little legs moved very quickly so I thought he was fast at first until I realised how slowly he was actually moving!
-
Brian Usher was rapid and Ian Miller was no slouch either but Joseph is the quickest defender I've ever seen at drfc.
-
We have had a few players who were so quick that we didn’t know they were on the pitch.
-
Was Daral Pugh quick? He ought to have been but tbh I'm not sure.
BobG
-
Forte and Tyson are the two who jump out at me from this thread. Of the names not mentioned, Kyle Bennett was very quick. A shame he wasn't half as quick mentally or he'd have had a much better career.
-

I remember thinking he was quick until we played Palace in the cup and Kouyate overtook him with half as many strides
-
Rob Street’s just raced into the picture.
-

He played once for us. Away at Hartlepool, early doors 83/84 season. Went back to Denaby Utd after that.
-
Not our player but, I watched the football league highlights from NYD. Gassama for Wednesday looks like frighteningly quick and also looks like he can play a bit too.
-
I too thought Johnathan Forte was really quick.
-
Been going to matches since 1992 and Jonathan forte was quickest i've seen.
