Westbrooke?
Still not fit?
Would much prefer him instead of Close on the bench if available.

Second best. No midfield, no ideas.

Agreed - there seems a lack of energy and we're looking lethargic - midfield is getting by-passed.
Fleetwood look like they are up for it.

If I was Ironside or Sharp I would be so frustrated as to how we play and the lack of service.  This is so indicative of the season.

Knock it around at the back and then a speculatively ball upfield! All the football is coming from Fleetwood.

1st time we pass and move the ball around switch sides and run at them (apart from the counter attack by Hurst - which was excellent defending by Fleetwood) and we score hopefully Grant can get into them and we can get out of 1st gear

They are fit, fast, organised and disciplined. Keeping their shape very well. All their players in their half when we have the ball. Took them 15 mins to work us out then they’ve started attacking and we are lucky they haven’t had at least two.

We are pedestrian and a yard behind the game again. Flashes of decent pace and imagination every now and then which thankfully has led to a goal. Great cross from Hurst and brill header from Bailey. Need more.
Title: Re: TLOD v Fleetwood

Who knew, running at defenders or getting a cross in is better than passing it sideways and backwards

It was broadbent who just pushed the player over should have been a booking but the ref seems to be letting things go

BobG

Not necessarily “badly wrong”, just not gelling as well as some other teams.  Fans of any side not in the promotion positions might say the same?

Win a couple of games and/or a signing or two to mix things up could see our performances and consistency improve?

Despite not greatly entertaining and in indifferent form, we’re not in too bad a place are we?

Badly wrong? I disagree.  Room for improvement, hell yes!
Title: Re: TLOD v Fleetwood
Post by: jmt23 on January 01, 2025, 03:54:17 pm
It was Broadbent not Bailey! Silly as absolutely no need, their player was running away from our goal.

Great header from Bailey, he rose like a salmon - I do hope this kick starts some form for him.

Somebody mentioned the midfield being bypassed, we do seem to be playing a back to front pass so much more this season, and I think this could be one of the biggest reasons the midfield look so run ragged.

Forsolong, your use of the word 'disorganised' sums it all up for me. They really should know their roles by now - even if they've had to learn 3 or 4 different formations. So, the first suspect is probably the coaching. It could be other reasons, but that's the most obvious. Being disorganised at this point in the season is bloody shameful.

You would think we were second bottom from some comments.. if the form and performances continue like this we could still finish in the top 3.

Of course I can see we have much to improve on but where will we be if/when that happens?

As would anyone who has watched a game or two in their lives. Unfortunately this is not the first time we have avoided defeat thanks only to good fortune and an opportunity which suited the special skills of Billy Sharp. We might wonder where we’d be in League 1 playing like we have for the last dozen or so games.

All this and yet… we won and sit second in the league. I reckon we’d have gladly accepted that at the start of the season. Imagine what’ll happen when we start playing…

Tough game today in shit conditions. Me and the boy were there. He’s undefeated in live games so far. A few observations:

I don’t know why we persist with this playing out from the back. It’s predictable and often the ball just comes straight back.

Olowu and McGrath are some partnership.

Maxwell doesn’t seem 100% fit.

Sterry was excellent today.

Joe Ironside is a warrior.

We seem to be lacking a proper bas**rd in midfield.

Mols and Hurst have bags of talent but really need to be having a pop at goal more, especially on days like today.

Actually enjoyed the game. Cold. Hard fought. And we won.

Billy Sharp - love.❤️

Second is, of course, an artificial position. There are  5 clubs that could overtake the Rovers if the stars fall that way.
It only needs two to do it and Rovers are out of the autos.

It’s not an artificial table, those games in hand could be against each other but either way there’s no guarantee the games will be won.
We saw that last season when we could’ve been overtaken numerous times by games in hand but the teams didn’t win them
