Was just wondering how many times percentage wise
The team who misses first goes on and wins the tie?
Would always want the opposite side to miss first, but seems like a bit of a curse
Would have to check the statts?

I know you have a better chance of winning if you go first.

Apparently 60% of shootouts are win by the team which shoots first.

Didn’t we buck that particular trend in the shootout at Chester? From memory we went first & Jamie Patterson missed.
-
Tim Ryan’s penalty only just crept in. Andy Warrington what a legend and certain ex Rovers player took one for Chester

But given that we went first and missed added weight to the “team who misses first often wins” thoughts.

Apparently 100% of shootouts are won by the team that scores most

Bloody stats!
It's an interesting question from the OP,I've noticed for years now, that the team who makes the first miss(not necessarily the first pen taken) more often than not, goes on to win the shoot-out.

That’s incorrect actually, it’s the team that misses the least…

In our case, we've been involved in 23 penalty shoot outs since 2005 (the earliest I could find stats in one place was Man City at home). Of those, 6 have been won by the team missing first (just over 25%). 5 of those 6 have been in the last 11 shootouts, though, so maybe it feels like that recently. Rovers have missed first on 12 of those 23 occasions, and won 4 of those (33%).

My son has a theory that if you miss your first penalty and the opposition score theirs, (irrespective of if you go first or second) then you will go on to win. Not based on stats or but just something we had become aware of watching recent shoot outs.
As soon as Ironside missed on Sunday, he backed us to go through at 5-1

in the 2012 Euros, England v Italy, it finished 0-0 aet. England were 3-1 on pens with Italy missing their second and we still managed to lose. Cole and Young both missed. lol
