Billy slashed at it instead of taking a touch, but the ball seemed to jump up at him a bit.

He is usually so aware of what is around him and he had plenty of time to take a touch and slot the ball home.
Very unlike him and a bad miss.
He will be really brassed off about not scoring there.

Fortunately, the lads got Billy out of jail with the win. If Gills had equalised with the push at the end, Billy would have been devastated.

I would have put my house on him scoring,glad I could'nt and did'nt.
Think he was'nt sure if he had enough time to shot with his right leg,so snatched at it with his left leg,glad it did'nt matter in the end.

Billy was never going to lay that ball off to someone else but a player of his experience shouldn’t have rushed the shot.

I would have laid odds on him scoring but it happens Gills were out to impress the new boss. First time we have ever done the double over them I think its 73 games between us and on the whole especially at Priestfield we tend not to do too well

Only our third win ever at Gillingham.
We have drawn 11 and lost 26 there as well.

Nobody expects Sharp to miss chances like that because he's THAT good.

Harmless I know but I just can’t understand the appeal of it. They are everywhere as well, it’s only getting worse.
Some are better than others but generally I like seeing things from another perspective than you get from the brief match highlights.
I find our own 18Dapprr very good with his summaries by reading the game as good as anybody.

Whilst generally happy with our defence, we sometimes struggle to clear our lines with sufficient distance up the pitch, which invites pressure straight back on.
It makes no sense to defend corners with the whole team which means that they outnumber the attackers, but often get in each others’ way. Then there’s no one upfield to pass to , so the ball is likely to come straight back. Do they think these things through?
There is also the practice of almost always having two men over free kicks and corners. Free kicks - OK, but at corners is the small variation in trajectory worth wasting the presence of a forward in the box? They actually exploited the practice by using a short corner routine once yesterday, but it doesn’t happen often. It is surely fundamental that if you are going to regularly work this kind of routine you should use the variation fairly frequently, otherwise the opposition management will recognise that it only represents a minimal risk.
You might even ask yourselves whether an out-swinging corner requires any variation in the defensive set-up? At this level, possibly not. Again, do they think these things through? Factoring in the ability to actually get the intended trajectory might be another reason to abandon such sophistication completely. I don’t remember seeing any other teams doing it regularly at our level or higher for that matter.

Pretty sure that shot from Street near the end that their defender blocked would be a pen in the Premier League with VAR. Arm well away from the body, hit his hand and he did the old go down holding his stomach like he’d been shot trick until he realised he’d got away with it.

I agree with your second point in regard to free kicks, it's always obvious who will take the kick so the advantage of uncertainty as to the trajectory just isn't there. As for corners I guess it results in two fewer bodies choking up the box which will make a bit more space for the strikers.
On the question of having everyone back at corners I do agree the advantage of having someone upfield for a clearance can be massively useful (Brentford anybody? - although that wasn't a corner) but I do remember Sean O'Driscoll answering criticism about his choice to bring everyone back at corners and he basically said it was shown by the stats that fewer goals from corners are scored with everyone back defending. Not sure on the pros and cons of the inswinging vs out swinging corner but you can bet the prevailing policy will be statistics based.
