Well done Forest 7-0 with 37% possession stats.
Can this be the end of over coaching and stats nonsense.
Football is a simple game of players winning their battles and showing off the cuff individualism playing in their familiar positions, with ream mates in sync.

Possession percentage has zero relevance to the outcome of a game. It’s just a potential conduit for other stuff that may help you win games. The days of teams even wanting high possession have long gone. All a bit of a myth.

Good to hear that!
Hopefully more stats will disappear as useless and unimportant, with the focus being on hunger, desire and players forcing their natural abilities on their opponents and not being turned into chess pieces.
It happens in all jobs, over complicating to provide jobs for clever geeks who want some of the action (money), making a simple job appear more complicated and difficult to perform than it actually is.

And while we're at it get rid of them goalkeeper gloves, keepers should be saving shots anywhere in their own half. Also bring back caps for players and woollen jumpers for players, it's all too woke nowadays!! Just get your tallest man up front with a short quick guy and boot it up to him, let em know you're there!!

My biggest bugbear is the offside rule. The number of times I thought the ball was in just to see the offside flag go up. If the ball is in the net it should be a goal. And players having to avoid the "offside trap" instead of just concentrating on playing the game. Just my view anyway.

Proper footy boots that covered your ankles, had reinforced toe caps and screw-in wooden studs were good enough in my day.

Possession stats are simply an indication of a style of play, not a measurement of quality per se.
You can be brilliant with dominant possession, as Man City were for years.
Or you can be toothless with dominant possession, and vulnerable when you lose it, as MK Dons mostly were yesterday.

Big reason why Notts County are still in lg2.
With the players they've had over the last couple of seasons they should be in the top half of lg1

Michael Shaw, look at the history of the game, the offside law was brought in because most games were ending up 0-0 and crowds were getting lower as the games were boring.
Arsenal invented the double centre half system that was two defenders never leaving the penalty area so goals became a short commodity.
The offside rule was brought in to open the game up, and did, more goals were scored as attackers had more room to play in.

Selby, if that's the case then there should be clear daylight between offensive and defensive players in offside situations.
A nipple or toe nail offside leads to less goals scored.

Screw in? My 1st pair of boots were "autographed Stanley Mathews" with hammer in nailed leather studs

The margin for clear daylight would still be a ‘nipple’ or ‘toe nail’ when giving tight offsides you are just moving the goalposts

I don't understand. If playing two very deep central defenders was working, why would the introduction of an offside law change the tactics of the defending team?

Selby, I thought giving 3 points for a win instead of 2 was what really made the game more attacking and interesting.
I don't see the offside rule stops central defenders hogging the goal mouth, but what do I know...
I just personally find the offside rule irritating.

Best rule change in the history of the game was banning backpasses to the keeper.
It's astonishing watch pre-90s games and seeing a defender under pressure just roll the ball back to the keeper to pick up. That rule change alone makes football today unrecognisable from what it was 35 years ago.
-
Worst recent rule change is eliminating the offence of a foul throw.
Apparently I mean.
-
Used to hate being Goalie as the ‘Casey’ was always smeared with Dog shite!
Hence the use of gloves

They rarely get pulled up you are right.

Another bad rule change is the apparent legalisation of obstruction.

You can get medicine for that BB..

Point of order Billy, back passes aren't banned just the keeper picking the ball up from a back pass :-]]
