I've looked briefly at this case before and something about it felt wrong. It felt like one of those cases where the gutter press whip up a lynch mob and the whole of society decides a person is guilty.

This expert evidence seems to throw great doubt on the safety of the conviction.

If I read it right, they are basically saying that the air in the infants' bloodstreams was either natural causes or poor care, but in any event and in each case, not murder.  Not sure I've ever heard of air in the bloodstream being a natural event and 'poor care' is just a cast your net wide strategy.  Sounds like the defence lawyers are hedging their bets.

In the two previous threads on here about Letby I don’t think that anyone expressed any thoughts about whether there had been a wrongful prosecution and there were some pretty damning comments.

Wasn't there expert witnesses who said she did do it?

Yes Raven and those saying she might be innocent are using the very same evidence to prove their point.

The lead expert witness Dr Evans has changed his opinion on why 3 babies died, so there is a new cause of death before the appeal court regarding those deaths.

To my mind the case was all about the expert witness interpretation of the available data and that was all provided by the prosecution. It was statistical analysis that alerted the hospital to Letby in the first place. The original defence team produced no expert witnesses to challenge the prosecution and since no new evidence has been identified there is no case for an appeal.

I'm not a lawyer but this seems to indicate the original defence team were incompetent. A team of experts has now been assembled who say the interpretation provided by the original experts was wrong - the new team includes the bloke who did the original work on which the prosecution based their analysis - he wasn't called to give evidence in the original trial and it is only now where he has been introduced.

''Fourteen senior clinicians from around the world have analysed the medical evidence against Letby, including British doctor Neena Modi, a former president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

The panel was assembled by Dr Shoo Lee, a retired Canadian doctor based at the University of Toronto who specialises in the treatment of young children. He said the panel worked without payment and were not familiar with the case prior to reviewing the evidence''

Why on earth would Lucy Letby have written notes which included these comments:

"I am evil, I did this"
"I killed them on purpose"
"I don't deserve to live"
"I am a horrible, evil person"

Perhaps the rantings of a person having a breakdown?
Certainly wouldn't have done her defence any good.

That’s exactly how a huge miscarriage of justice would start isn’t it. Not saying this is though. How can the appeal be upheld though when they require new evidence. This is just a differing opinion isn’t it?

The original expert witnesses cited work by a Canadian world authority. He is the one who has come forward, by the sound of it saying that the expert witnesses misunderstood his research and reached the wrong conclusion.

It happens.

You would think that someone so eminent would have been able to write his evidence in such a way that it can’t be misunderstood.
