Title: Saturday League Two fixtures
Post by: NickDRFC on February 08, 2025, 08:12:35 am
On paper you probably wouldn’t get a kinder weekend all season for our rivals. We’ve got:

Colchester (13th) vs Walsall (1st)
Notts County (3rd) vs Morecambe (23rd)
Accrington (21st) vs Wimbledon (4th)
Crewe (5th) vs Newport (17th)
Swindon (14th) vs Port Vale (6th)
Bradford (7th) vs Harrogate (20th)
Salford (8th) vs Tranmere (22nd)

Looking at that you’d probably say Swindon are the likeliest to do us a favour but is there any other result you fancy to help us out?

Colchester are on a decent run and may very well fancy taking on a faltering Walsall

Notts County and Salford look like good things. Swindon beating Port Vale wouldn’t be a surprise. Couldn’t bet Vale with stolen money. Thought Wimbledon at about 6/5 was value as well. Should be closer to evens/ odds on.

Thought Bradford looked a terrible price, worse ideas than betting Harrogate on at +0.75 on the Asian Handicap.

Much like they had against us, Harrogate have an exceptional record away at Bradford. Played five times in the last four seasons and won three, drawn one and lost just one (1-0). Bradford failed to score in two of those five games. They have never scored more than one goal at home to Harrogate.

Not just Saturday there are games on Tuesday night aswell. But there’s only Notts County that go past us with a win.
Now after Tuesday fixtures if Bradford win both today and Tuesday will be above us on the same games. If Wimbledon and Crewe win today then they play each other on Tuesday so a draw or win for either team will put either both on goal difference above us. Wimbledon will still have a game in hand but we will have game in hand on Crewe. Port Vale if they win today and draw or win on Thursday can go above us but they play Notts County. All this before we play again in the league

Rossington Main are playing a home match today and I saw they offer free food to kids in case anybody needs their football fix

Taken them 2 minutes to score today so plenty of time to get that monkey off their back.

Can we create history that is the question  -or will we sulfer yet another defeat ?

Amazingly Bradford City have also have a very bad record against them

Even Leeds at home crawled over the line last week in the FA Cup 1-0 against them

https://www.11v11.com/teams/bradford-city/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Harrogate%20Town/

A couple of years ago I backed Bradford to beat them at home in the F A Cup and they lost 1-0 at home.

Since then I have  always watched how they put the indian sign on Bradford as well as us

and steer clear !!

Of the 10 meetings   Harrogate have won 7  Bradford have won 2 with 1 match drawn

12 Oct 2020   Bradford City v Harrogate Town   L   0-1   League Two
17 Apr 2021   Harrogate Town v Bradford City   L   2-1   League Two
05 Feb 2022   Harrogate Town v Bradford City   L   2-0   League Two
22 Feb 2022   Bradford City v Harrogate Town   L   1-3   League Two
01 Oct 2022   Harrogate Town v Bradford City   W   1-2   League Two
05 Nov 2022   Bradford City v Harrogate Town   L   0-1   FA Cup
29 Dec 2022   Bradford City v Harrogate Town   W   1-0   League Two
16 Sep 2023   Bradford City v Harrogate Town   D   1-1   League Two
23 Mar 2024   Harrogate Town v Bradford City   L   3-0   League Two
28 Sep 2024   Harrogate Town v Bradford City   L   2-1   League Two

https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/13291141/harrogate-2-0-cheltenham-league-two-highlights

Harrogate beat Cheltenham 2-0 on Saturday with both goals coming from corners and credited as OWN GOALS

It's funny but when we play them there is always a bad smell around  :coat: "

I decided to watch the first half of the match today Bradford scored in the first minute and easily controlled the first half and Harrogate were not in it -- but switched to Swindon v Port Vale in the second hald

So both us and Bradford broke the Harrogate Hoodoo both 1-0 - apparently Harrogate were much better in the second half - my bank manageress wanted Harrogate to lose to help Carlisle survive.  (Carlisle 1-0 up at the minute)

talking of Lazurus recoveries at the bottom of the division now called Division 2

lest we forget Paul Ince ( his first managerial job)  took over as manager at Macclesfield when they were a furlong behind at the bottom

Gillingham  as we all know did it a couple of years ago

and now we have Carlisle a team who ONCE topped what is now known as the Premiership and were on Jimmy Hill's Match of the day as they beat Chelsea 1-0 away -- even remember the scorer Bill Green - center half

donnyhound also remembers

......  so hopefully the hat-trick of Lazarus recoveries happens

update

Bradford only beat Morecame 1-0 at home in January
and Port Vale are unbeaten this year in the league 6 matches -- Swindon (young Cotterell) scored an unbelievable goal
from outside the area  and pen  one of the PV goals should have been saved

A decent set of results overall. There are very few gimmes in this league.

Pity Grimsby came from behind to win.

Some favourable results there. I for one can’t wait for Monday to be over with and get back to league action with hopefully another 3 points on the board. The business end of the season starts there.

It just goes to show how difficult it is to predict the outcome of football matches.
Looking back at the OP on this thread you would have thought that the higher up the table teams would overall have had better results than they got.

Colchester were the obvious ones that could cause an "Upset", underlying numbers show they were pretty decent and form was for them and against Walsall.

I think Bradford have turned a corner so they'll be a threat.

i was certain he would be sold in the transfer window (like Bogle was sold by Grimsby)- that's why I never backed him - I knew he was the best striker in the league (being a Gambia International gives a very small clue to his ability  ;) ) very very early in the season

it was obvious Jatta would be sold in January when they bought this one - a ready made replacement !!!!

I can't get it right every time  :crying: :crying: :crying:

Rovers have got away with it largely, I thought they would have tumbled a lot further than they have considering how tight the division is. They need to make sure next Saturday with Grimsby. I will be there!

If it does end up like that we have the opportunity to make it happen for ourselves.
I hope it doesn’t end up like it did under Fergie junior in that three horse race, with regards to winning the league.

It's a strange situation, Padge. Chesterfield are 10 points behind us, yet they've f*cking buried us twice.

A few weeks ago people were saying we should forget about Walsall and that the title was theirs.
Four games ago they had 58 points and something like a 15 point lead.
They now have just one more point and the gap to second place is only six points.
With 16/17 games to go we are still well in contention and have all to play for.
