I’m pretty sure this is this case. I remember a few at Belle Vue. QPR, Aston Villa, Man City etc.
We have never beaten a top flight team at this stadium. Monday is the day, I can feel it. Especially with a sell out.
:rtid:
-
We beat palace at the KM many years ago 2-0 I think
-
We played Villa at the Keepmoat in January 2009 and were by far the better side in a 0-0 draw. Less impressive in the replay at Villa Park and lost 3-1.

I went to the away leg and we were the better side in that too. A few poxy goals from Carew that night the difference

We've got decent facilities and a nice pitch which for me will always make it more difficult for us against a Prem team

Not exactly a giant killing, we were both in the Championship at the time and we finished ahead of them that year.
-
The KM is hardly a stadium of fright for away teams like Belle Vue was. Spectators are far too away from the pitch to have the same effect.
-
Clearly the one giant killing that did take place at the Keepmoat was on 5 November 2022. Sadly we were the side being humiliated.
-
KM just too smart a stadium to create away terror for prem teams. I was in the BV corridor when arsenal arrived for that League Cup night game. Team had flown to Donny airport and left it as late as poss to get to the hell of Belle Vue. Wengers face as he turned into that away dressing room was hilarious.

While it is true we have never beaten higher opposition at the KM/Eco in the FA Cup, we have been successful at Home 3 times in the League Cup against Hull (2012-13 and 2017-18) and Leeds (2015-16, on penalties) when we were in L1 and they were in the Championship
For what it is worth we have beaten 3 league one teams at the Eco while we were in League 2 - Burton 2023-24, Wigan 2023-24 on pens, and Huddersfield this season

No we weren’t.. yes we played well and gave them a good game but the result was fair.

The result is always fair if you've scored more goals than the other team unless the goals shouldn't have stood

I guess it could depend on the definition of giant and if it's confined to Cup competitions.
Of course we have slain some teams defined as giants by their fans on a few occasions in league competition. Ya know, those sort of fans who say we're playing them in our cup final.
-
I just thought that on the night Villa were generally comfortable against us. They probably had another gear in them whereas we didn’t. A great atmosphere though and we did get to see Afro’s last goal for us that night.
-
We had a clear hand ball penalty not given at Villa Park in front of the Villa supporters at a crucial time in the game. I will never forget the referee walking towards the Rovers supporters to the tunnel at half time, and the chant of cheat all the way off.

Yeah I was at Villa Park that night & we were unlucky!

Yeah I can't imagine a team changing on the coach when playing at the KM unlike a team who played us at Belle Vue and subsequently got their arses kicked on the pitch.

No better a stadium than Plymouth..... Get in to them you never know...
-
Didn't we knock Leeds out of the league cup? Or did I dream that, fairly sure they had someone sent off
-
Yep on penalties - Chris Wood’s penalty joining namesake Martin’s in low earth orbit..

I get what you're saying, BFYP, but in all honesty, Liverpool had a team packed with reserves. Of course that doesn't take credit away from Argyle; but I doubt that Palace will play a much weakened team.
-
Liverpool put out a team resembling an U21 EFL trophy side.
Disrespectful to their opposition, their fans and the competition.
Glad they got what they deserved.

Never had a giant killing at KM?
How about King's Lynn Town?
Thank you Danny Schofield!

I’m not sure an U21 EFL trophy side has ever had a frontline with 160 odd caps for top tier nations, or any nations for that matter!

yes beat them on penalties (Chris Woods is still in the air).
Lewis Cook (now at Bournemouth) was the player who got sent off.

I too was at that game we were unlucky that game, unfortunately we had yet another “ Homer “ ref. Loved that ground . We need some luck tonight - I have a good feeling about this game though not well enough to go sadly.
We need to break this FA Cup big game drought at the KM

Many years ago Palace were not “giants!

Yep, we have beaten them twice in the league cup too when only one division lower than them but of course those games were not at the KM/Eco.

Bristol and I were at Selhurst Park for the 2-1 League Cup defeat when that cheating bugger Johnson scored 2 pens. We looked proper good that night. And we scored an absolutely beautiful goal. A real cracker of a team effort all the way from defending a corner in our box. John Doolan and Gregg Blundell were its architects.
If we could do that again, just once, I'd be a happy man.

Remember that night Bob in Croydon. The ref was deffo stacked against us. Our goal was a cracker. Palace fans were also dropping shit down on our away bit from above. They did get a stewards bollocking and they were moved but the whole night left a crap taste.
