I was surprised to see the condition of the pitch on Monday night, which seemed to be in a poorer condition than the my dons game.
Did anyone else have the same view, or are awareness of the reason for this poor condition?

It was a wet soggy night perhaps???

Alot of pitches around the country are suffering, probably due to the combination of weather conditions. It's not growing season so unless clubs use these huge lighting rigs, then we just have to let nature take it's course. Thankfully we've moving towards springtime with more daylight and hopefully higher temperatures.

Sprinklers not used pre match last Monday as a result of nature taking care of it.

It’s been the same for the last 3 or 4 games, it seemed to take a turn for the worse after Christmas, and now the rugby is being playing on the pitch as well, it won’t be getting much better until spring. I suspect that it will once again be relaid in summer before the start of next season.

It's help up pretty well last few seasons, but definitely looking rough this year.
I remember the Brentford promotion season (12/13?) it was just rolled sand by the end of the season. I played on it as part of the season ticket perks and don't remember much grass!

Yes, it was looking a bit crusty and bobbly in the run up to Christmas, possibly due to drier spells.
As said above, it's been alot worse!

It seemed to deteriorate rapidly during January when we had a couple of weeks of hard frost.

Where the subs warm up at the north end of the West stand is very threadbare - there's no grass left and you can see a mesh which I presume is part of the Desso grass system
-
You all do know it’s winter don’t you? This sort of stuff happens. It’s wetter, the days are shorter, temperatures are lower and the grass is fairly dormant.
Just checking

Even my regularly nice back lawn looks a bit down in the dumps right now.

Mine looks like the old Baseball Ground lol

I had some rare free time this Saturday and watched ‘The big match revisited’ on ITV4. They featured a top flight game between, I think, Derby & Watford from the late 70’s. Wow, there was absolutely no grass at all and it looked like the aftermath of a huge mud wrestling tournament. Literally, the ball was getting stuck in the mud, and players were sliding around like ice skaters. At least things have improved a bit! :woot:
-
When I watch the Big match revisited I often think, what would George Best or John Robertson do to defenders on the modern pitches.
-
Need the large ultra violet lights to keep the grass growing in winter.
Of course it will never happen, they won't even replace the bulbs in the floodlights

I watched a recent one with Sean O'Driscoll playing for Fulham, loads of skill on dodgy pitches

Maybe you could do some research, tell us the cost and let us know whether it's a good way to spend money?

Hull are using them at the Kcom, the locals thought they were seeing the Northern Lights when they started.
-
Grass ceases to grow when the soil temperature is below seven celsius regardless of lighting conditions.

I thought it actually looked better than the Mk game
