Sorry if this is spam!
But after spending hours on social media I noted that there has been calls to have our own song like Arsenal do with North London Forever.
After several attempts I feel I have come up with the answer.
I came up with This is my city! The song is currently available to stream on the link below before it official release on 21st March on all major streaming services
https://on.soundcloud.com/vg5siw7GyzhRjzki9
I would love to hear people’s thoughts and if any one can help get this played on match day that help
Would be deeply appreciated!
-
Hi LP. That is truly beautiful. The media team needs to hear it. I for one would be dead proud to have it as our pre-match (and post-match?) anthem.
Well done.
-
I think the Arsenal one is brilliant and would love something similar. We have tried several times over the years for a pre match song and it’s never really taken off for reasons I’m not sure.
I think pre match songs have to be a bit shorter or play a catchy chorus which your song definitely does have
-
It's perfect. Had a tear on a 50 year old here.
We all have huge feelings for our club.
This is a chorus I can imagine a packed out black bank signing too in league 1 of course :)
Well done!
-
I love it! Get it played, brilliant!
-
I’m from Doncaster,
This is my city, my club, my one true love,
This is my home,
On the terrace of red, I never feel alone,
I’m from Doncaster
A brilliant song and that chorus would catch on perfectly

In 2 years time when it’s caught on you could see that been sung at away games too.

The original link posted in the OP worked fine for me and it is a well written piece.
I’m assuming that people are thinking that the fans would only be singing the chorus.

I’d be over the moon with people humming, singing or clapping to any part they want. The main thing was to create a terrace chanty/singalong chorus!
-
Is there a way of posting it without having to download the app and create an account, I can't be arsed to do that.
-
Turned it off half way through. Awful. Think it was the accent.

Yes .... click the Free Press post and link.is where it says" Here "
Worked OK
-
Absolutely love it
-
Fair play for having a crack but I’m not a fan. All subjective though so if the majority of people love it it would be great to have something that’s “ours”.
-
Whether it catches on or not that’s a top effort.
-
Well done young man let’s give it a try
-
Didn’t do owt for me. The cockney accent didn’t help.
Hearts’ Sunshine on Leith is a proper anthem. Just need some ‘Donny lyricist’ to tinker with the words & make it appropriate to Rovers.
-
Surely the best anthems just appear. They are not manufactured.
-
Molly Malone, sang properly like The Dubliners has always been perfect, it's always been sung, I remember it back in the 80s when I first started going.
Never understood why we've always looked for an anthem when it's been there all along.
-

Wrong, any football anthem has been written, recorded and played at grounds before the fans have adopted it.
We have the advantage of it been written by a rovers fan.
Just look at the effect north London forever has had on arsenal fans, a fan base not known for atmosphere, remember the 'Highbury library'.
Just shows it can work.
Spine tingling stuff for arsenal fans
https://youtu.be/INp5CoN-ygk?si=WH3b5QGt4KzqTT4P
Let's hope the club get on board with this, because it's what we've been crying out for, for decades :rtid:
-
Not for me, doesn’t sound like an anthem at all
-

Hearts definitely don't sing that
-
With the apathy shown by so many of our fans, maybe we should adopt the away fans anthem. "Is this a library" :chair:
-
It’s not a bad effort but not one reference to ‘the Rovers’ or ‘Rovers’ in the lyrics. In fact it’s only the mention of Belle Vue, red colours and the game against Villa that resonate with an affinity with the Club for me. Other than that, could easily be, dare I say it, a Doncaster City FC song. So, as a traditionalist I’ll stick with some of the older songs that once echoed around Belle Vue and the grounds of my many away days following ‘The Rovers’
-
It's a nice song. But like all clubs only the crowd will decide whether or not it's going to be a crowd anthem.
-

Agreed Nudga,it went back longer than that.
Hands in the air, ready for Rovers can't after.
In the 70/80s it was quickly followed by,
"You're going to get your kin head kicked in".
Probably not appropriate now :)
-
The other plus was that no other club sang it
-
I always thought that Thunderstruck by AC/DC would have been a good fit. The riff that starts it building up and then Rovers fans chanting Rovers rather than thunder as the song goes on.
-
Any effort to come up with something should be applauded.
I must admit, having read the positive comments, I was slightly disappointed when I heard it.
That said, I think the chorus could be adapted, to make it more terrace/Black Bank friendly, with a couple of tweaks here and there.
Maybe the artist, the club together with prominent members of the Black Bank, could get together and refine it, and practice the song before briningijg it to the Eco and promoting the hell out of it.
We could do with something fresh, as we can never agree between Wild Rover or Molly Malone.
For me, Molly Malone was ideal but the version sang in more recent times, was nothing like the version we used to sing in the 70s etc. There might not be that many of us left who can recall the 'When she wheeled her wheelbarrow, through streets broad and narrow....(even I've forgot the next lines) butthen ending....singing clap, clap, clap clap clap, clap clap clap, Rovers!
The younger ones seems to sing the last lines too quickly, as if it's almost an apology of a lame effort. The claps, along with a drum needs slowing down a tad and belt out "Rovers!"
Again, it needs practice and refining.
Same with..."Give me an R...." etc. done way to fast. Done right it could almost get like the Icelandic thunder clap.
Definitely worth pursuing this and maybe publishing a few versions for fans to vote on?
-
I hate that Arsenal song. Manufactured dirge.
Need a few more listens to the Donny one but initially a no due to accent and forced lyric. The songwriter has got something though.
-
Nice song but this would work how minutes silences do. Silence and atmosphere after.
This isn't going to get anyone going sorry. Nice song, but will send everyone to sleep at 2.55pm
-
Louis Tomlinson - Defenceless would be a good one. Could get him to sing it before the game to get it going
-
The pronunciation of Bovril was a hard listen.
-
Although it is well written I just can’t imagine people remembering enough of the words to sing along with it.
I don’t think it would catch on.
-
Where the coal fires burned and the air was brown I met my mates by the belle Vue ground,
Where the boys in red played the game we love
In a dirty old town dirty old town
In the mines we worked and in the railway shedsdirty old town dirty old town
So when the buzzer sounds at the end of the week
to the the rovers ground did the people meet
And colliers sang from there dusty lungs
Come on you reds give us a goal or two
There were heroes there and just to name a few
King Alick was one and all the rest we knew
Now the pits have gone and the rail sheds few
Still the Rovers live on for me and you
No more dusty lungs but the songs still true
So come on you reds make us proud of you
we're a city now and the grime has gone but the ghosts of the mines keep on cheering you on
-
Singing to the pouges tunes of durry old town dir
-
Dirty old town
-
I think it’s outstanding
-
Although it is well written I just can’t imagine people remembering enough of the words to sing along with it.
I don’t think it would catch on.
It's all about the chorus for fans to sing
-
I still think Dublin s fair city has the most potential. Change Dublin to Donny. Also when it ends on through streets broad and narrow singing we are Donny we are we are Donny we are Donny rovers. Instead of the clapping. It's a catchy tune which is what's needed imo. I'm sure someone could add to it lyric wise. Another plus is the tune can be played on the tannoy system.
-
I still think
Time for action, by Secret Affair is the perfect song, listen to it lyrics a couple of time

Country roads by John Denver
Take me hone, Bawtry Road
To the place I belong
Eco Power
Donny Rovers

That’s the problem with a lot of our songs - those singing do it too quickly.
It’s like there’s a race to get to the end.
It loses the impact and you can’t tell what they’re singing.
-
A great effort by the OP, well done you.
-
The best anthems are those already in existence and well known to most. Very unlikely that a fresh tune with very limited public exposure will gain the traction to become an anthem.
-
Would makeagreat walk out tune better than the racket they play now

Simple and effective and is sure to be included in BB repertoire .

There is a hell of a racket in the south stand Filo but it is so loud that I can’t really tell you what they play.

The pronunciation of Bovril was a hard listen.
Big inadvertent 'Nigella Lawson at the tea-hut' vibes

Absolutely, I like it. If we had a decent PA it could catch on.

New attempts at football songs are like Xmas songs. Never going to beat the old ones

Not for a moment suggesting any of these as anthems, but some alternate Rovers themed lyrics here:

Edit: Probably only worth looking at ones where you know the original song

Thanks for some of your wonderful words and comments about the song!
Just to be open and transparent I sent the song to the clubs media team on Monday and I’m currently awaiting them to respond!
If I hear anything I’ll up date you!

Just wanted to provide an update.
The song has been re-recorded to capture my vocals being more reflective of being from Doncaster and will now be released under my actual name. The chorus has been lifted a bit to give it a bit more oomph.
The club are on board with the song and will play it during the prematch build up.
Here is a link to the new version:
https://on.soundcloud.com/8Y38e7piK8dELN939
I’ll keep it active for a few days for you guys to hear.
The song its self will be released on 8th August with the help of the club with all profits from digital sale of the song being donated to Doncaster Foodbank.
So if anyone wants to help with getting this song out to as many people as possible so we can raise some money to help people then let me know.
Thanks!
