Does anyone know what happened to Wroey who initiated the very first Rovers fans’s forum ?
Who remembers the stalwart posters on that forum none of whom seem to have stood the pace ?
-
Don’t know about more recently but didn’t he flounce out over ownership or control of YAURS? Long time ago now so could be wrong.

Yeh it was something like that didn't he sue someone over it. Yaurs got a right pain with Wroey doling out yellow and red cards for spelling mistakes and the such. Herman pops up on here occasionally

I think Andrew Spiers set up the first site and YAURS was a later addition/rival. BobG would know all about it - he was the one who put me on to it.
-
What happened on Yaurs should be left on Yaurs!
-
I believe I was the first poster to get a yellow card on YAURS. Probably the only thing of note I ever contributed to it.
I have always thought he continued posting on this site.
-
Some of the match reports from Sturdy & Co when we were in the Conference were hilarious!
-
Andrew Spiers did indeed set up the first Rovers chat site.
This site, in its original format, was around at the same time as YAURS. Nigel was a good moderator at first. YAURS was a decent site. But something changed. He did take someone to court. It was pretty well thrown out although the defendant did make some sort of apology. The judge remarked that the whole thing had been a complete waste of public time, money and resource. It looked to me, from the ourside, that Nigel had become well nigh paranoid. Maybe I'm wrong. But whatever changed YAURS ended up becoming insupportable. Then Nigel disappeared. I've seen neither sight nor sound of him from that day to this. Sad tbh. He had been a dynamic, intelligent chap.
He ended up threatening me.
A sad end.

Thanks Bob..a sad end indeed !

Quite a lot of people drift in and drift out over the years. That Hippo guy, the bloke who ate the testicle, Richard Haley the Tory post office bloke.
-
I remember getting a yellow card on Yaurs & then pretty much giving up on the site.
Be surprised if a few names mentioned don't read this forum and even maybe have other aliases now. Wonder what became of Rigo?
-
Did Sturdy emigrate?
-
I wasn’t part of the original site and know nothing about what has been discussed on this thread.
Having read through it this morning though I am wondering whether the person being discussed is Nidge Roe, who was a bit on the overweight side and was bald headed.
Also a very good football player.
If that is him, he died a few years ago, I believe from a heart attack.
-

Rigos still floating about. Sure he caused moderators on here a fair bit of bother recently by making them delete all of his posts. Still active on Twitter. Mainly focuses on non-league and ex young lads who were once here.
-
I used Yaurs briefly - I wrote a post comparing our games on a Saturday and Tuesday and was censured for failing to capitalise one of the initials on the days. Pathetic really..
-
I think Rigo fancied himself as a sports journo and he used to do a good report on the u18 games.
Not had anything like that since he did it. Although Selby seems to give us the odd snippet now and again.
-
Haven’t seen owt from Fuzzyduck in ages either..

Think Richard Haley still goes. Have almost certainly seen him at home games within the past year or two.

I used to post on YAURS back in the day, also Confguide. Mostly on Bifmag with Sturdy, Carlos the Jackal, Herman etc. Some great laughs.

Bifmag was fantastic.

Andrew Spiers set up the original Rovers site & forum during the Richardson days. A lot of the protests were arranged on there, as well as the R'Sonists football team (that still exists today i believe!). Myself and Nathan Batchelor setup our own site DR-WEB or something during the first year in the Conference. All before Rovers had an official site so between us we were the only online presence for a while. When Andrew scaled down his involvement I negotiated moving the forum to run under Confguide which was a much more stable setup run by Hoagy (a Yeovil fan) as traffic increased, as part of our website. At some point it was then returned to VSC to manage and became the forum it is today.
YAURS (yet another unofficial rovers site) appeared a bit after ours and used to pinch our stories, so much that we started chucking fake ones in to catch him out. It was all a bit 'divide and conquer', he got a bit shirty with us a couple of times too (which was definitely foreshadowing of how it played out) but I never got taken to court :)

Confguide that was one I was trying to think of and as for Bifmag  I'll always remember "Snatch of the Day"
-
Did the parody Kris Akabusi story come from the bifmag days?
-
Great laughs in those pre-snowflake days.
-
You are all part of our DNA !

Best site around that time was the Huddersfield Town site. Absolutely superb. God knows how many hours they put in each week. Genuinely would have paid to have that content.

BobG
Spot on Bob.
I miss Fuzzyduck greatly. I had 2 emails addresses for him but very sadly he no longer responds.
I fear the worst because when you support a team like he supported Donny you dont disappear like he did but I hope I am wrong. His latter posts were from Switzerland, where he worked, and he was well known for supporting a local team.
Great respect Fuzzy

Winterthur.
He used to post match reports and updates as well as his fantastic Rovers videos.
I still miss him.
As he was working full time and he used to whizz about all over the place I don't think he can have been anywhere near old. OK it was perhaps 15-20 years ago now, but even then I'd be surprised if he was anything over 55 now.

I remember a snatch of the day at Boston being particularly great viewing, wish I could still access that to see if it was as impressive as a younger Albert thought :)

Loved Confguide - not only a message board but stats and history too. Had a lot of time for Hoagy. My wife had close relatives in Yeovil, and one was a lifelong Yeovil fan. I was invited over one year to see Yeovil v Rovers in the year we steam-rollered tier 4 (then in its last year of being called Division 3). It was McIndoe's first return and the locals made it very clear what they thought of him. But we had the last laugh and won and I had to stay very quiet amidst all the Yeovil fans. Hoagy invited me to write an article in the program for that game.

Dutch ..I attended that match too ..on Retford coach with Paul and Andy Liney .The coaches stopped at a pub on the way a bit later than had been scheduled and booked by phone so by the time we pulled up there was one single bar maid in attendance .120 pints were pulled however by experienced willing arms and the cash register was red hot .Ravenhill was man of the match no?

Don't know about MoM but he certainly scored the only goal. IIRC he was a bit of a surprise selection over Paul Green alongside John Doolan for that match

Dave, Fuzzy's father was a school teacher at Stainy school for a short time when I was there. I thought Fuzzy was brought up just off Princess Ave but I am not certain.

Which was the site that used to have the feature where they'd convince birds wearing Rovers shirts at games to lift them up and get their bangers out?
I was only a teenager but I'm sure I haven't imagined that. Or have I?!

This is absolutely extraordinary stuff.
“Meanwhile, a slanging match between two Doncaster fans on a supporters' club website has ended up before a judge.
In what is thought to be the first case of its kind, lifelong fan Nigel Wroe took fellow supporter David Beddoes to court as a result of comments written on a fans' chatroom.
The row started with critical comments made by Wroe about O'Driscoll's appointment in September 2006.
He provoked an angry response from Beddoes and other fans on the Viking Supporters' Co-operative website.
Wroe, who lives in Hampshire but still supports the Rovers on a regular basis, claimed the remarks had cost him sleepless nights when he appeared at Doncaster County Court.
He took legal action against Beddoes, claiming that his remarks were defamatory and amounted to harassment.
The judge agreed and granted an injunction against Beddoes, preventing him from posting any more comments about Wroe on the site for the next six months.”
-
Taking people to court for social media comments? Wow, step forward this Wroe character, you were ahead of your time.
I'm sure he loves this moment in UK history, this is your government, they're your babies.
Come back, now is your time to shine, though you missed the chance be a curtain twitcher during the bad flu season 5 years ago.
You have willing ears in power, even worse than the previous bunch of scum.
Seems he didn't quite master the getting police to go knocking on doors move but he knew that from small acorns do oak trees grow.
No idea who this Wroe is but without doubt he admires Sir Starmer.

A bit of a inaccurate report there, I forget the figure I think it was £1500 that he wanted to claim for deformation of character, there were about 6 or 7 cases lined up, I was the first one, the judge said that she couldn’t believe this had been brought to court and threw the claim out, however the judge asked me if I would agree to an injunction against me for 6 months not to post anything regarding him, I agreed and that was the end of it, the other 6 or 7 cases were dropped as soon as we came out of court

I'm quite frequently in contact with Suzanne (Auntie Merge) Shes pretty disgusted to say the least how the Board at Dagenham are carrying on. She still has her season ticket but misses the odd game now as shes moved out Southend way

Hound, I don't think the Nidge Roe you mentioned is the same guy as he who ran YAURS. His surname was Wroe. Nigel Wroe. I never saw it abbreviated by anybody ever. Nigel wasn't bald either.

BobG
Definitely different people.
Nigel Wroe seemed a really nice guy. Remember meeting him at a few away games down south. Then something changed. Sad how it ended.

"Something changed" ..... you can say that again Jonathan!
Towards the end, contributors to Yaurs were dropping like flies. I was one of the last men standing but that all changed when I sent Wroey a polite PM sticking up for you, because he referred to you as a "dying swan".
That was that!
He took our disagreement public and insulted me on the forum, so I posted a final lengthy tome telling him what I thought, and that was "Goodbye Yaurs"!
I think by that time there were only about half a dozen of us remaining so it was a bit boring anyway!
-
I stayed until the end. Rumours were going around that he was going through some sort of breakdown, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I remember you being on there until the bitter end BB.
I used to post under my real name back then and we were two of the dwindling number of posters towards the end.
I didn't hear those rumours you refer to but when Wroey started being very intolerant and confrontational with even the most moderate and sensible contributors, I knew the days of Yaurs were numbered.
It was a shame because it was a cracking forum at its height.

I seem to remember him making ‘dying swan’ comments whenever someone announced they were leaving.
It was a shame, because until then there was lots of good natured and very funny banter, with very little, if any, malice towards other posters.
Oh for those days back again!

There's someone called Nigel Robert Wroe who lives in Fleet (Hampshire) who happens to be the company secretary of South Yorkshire Tyre Centre on Beckett Road.
Could he be the same person?

Speaking of Auntie Merge this is her Facebook post today about the Daggers present state
·
If ever a manager sounded completely out of his depth in a post-match interview, it is this.
Relegation looks a dead-cert and, the way the club is being run, we are heading for extinction.
The worse thing about all of it is, I don’t think I care. How a Managing Director can take us from the Football League Division One to this and still hold onto his job, is crazy. How he gives yet another incompetent and untried manager a 2 and a half year contract, which makes it impossible for us to sack him - he has yet to win a game since being made permanent (that’s 13 games).
Yes, I reluctantly wanted Ben to go, because we were promised the playoffs minimum, but the way that both he and Justham and others who have been let from the club is shameful; there is no integrity and this is not the way a ‘family club’ behaves. It makes me ashamed to be a Dagger.
In any other season, the FA Cup money would have been used to strengthen and support the team yet so many people have taken the ‘its gone to pay debts’ on face level.
Rebuilding without these owners, Thompson or anyone else who has presided over the wilful destruction of the club is the only answer.
Supporters have been calling for it for over 10 years. Thompson out. Yesterday’s protests were the best way of making voices heard. No doubt the club will try and ban people. But good luck trying to get out of the National South with an attendance of 500.
