Did anyone else notice on Saturday when Owen Bailey was substituted. Bailey looked over to McCann and asked who to give the captains arm band to. McCann pointed to McGrath who then proceeded to perform captains role.
McCann obviously thinks very highly of McGrath and sees him as a future club captain. There were many far more experienced players on the pitch on Saturday who he could have given the armband to
-
I thought he struggled Saturday especially one on one with their No 44 and No11, probably the only player we had under par.
-
Agreed Selby, I said the same to my mate ! Got done a few times, maybe just a little rusty after his injury eh ?

Makes sense, but if he uses a straightforward 3-0 victory to get sharpness back, that’s all good.
-
He's still waiting for his first accredited Rovers goal ... as am I as I keep backing him for first goal and any time goal
At least I got a run for my money this week as he had the shot in first half turned round post by keeper and later had the header which their defender somehow kept out but Street was on hand to bang in
I might switch to Sterry lol

he played the week before at Accrington or is it a delayed rustiness

So you are the one who put the knockers on Richard Wood scoring last season - If you pray at Bedtime then St. Jude is the one to ask for a result . She is the Patron Saint of Lost Causes
Talking of fullbacks Halliday scored the winner for Bradford on Saturday in injury time - his first goal of the season and the last one he scored was last season also at Salford. . Bradford also won that match away 2-1 and he also scored the winner as early as the 86th minute -- You wouldn't believe me unless I showed you proof - the commentator came up with this gem.
I just checked his goals for us or rather his goal ... 2019–2021 v GILLINGHAM
GOALS SCORED Doncaster Rovers 71 (1)
BUT he's scored 5 in 119 now for Bradford
Probability wise he must have scored as many own goals for the opposition as he scored for us
-
Sorry for being pedantic but Mellon got the winner

Tend to agree too. He's looked a bit jittery at times. Maybe rustiness and maybe just developing with game time. It takes some time to gain the experience to know when to go in hard or when to stand off. (Not entirely dissimilar to Bobby). We know he's got all the basic attributes to cope physically and now it's just the mental approach, keeping calm when necessary. We've seen Olowu mature over a few seasons so we need to give Jay the same patience. I'm sure he'll become a very good centre half over time.
We're blessed that we have Tom Anderson and Jay competing for that spot, plus of course all three can be used from time to time.
-
Jay did have several dodgy touches on Saturday but luckily none were costly for us.
I was highly impressed with the (Ronaldo like) height of his leap for the header which set up the first goal.
-
No one will sweat blood for our club more than jay , he grew up wanting to be a red, and now his dreams are real.. if he keeps developing as he is, he will struggle to keep him..
-
He will be a top player, he’s not doing too bad now btw.
I do worry when he has a bit of an off game, it’s who he is to try harder, to put it right and force the issue, and I was certain he would make a bigger gaff because of this - thankfully he didn’t.
We have one or two who could be captains, with his partner JO being another.

No problem ( that's the second mistake I have made in the last few months and I rightly got corrected ) I was switching between that game (even though i had backed Bradford @12/1 when they were 1-0 down) and the Port Vale match - where I lost a small amount I didn't see the unlikely Mellon winner as I was more interested in Tranmere losing to help Carlisle and was hoping for a Vale winner against ten men. There were 8 minutes injury time. So I obviously imagined it - the commentator came out with that stat immediately after the goal -

After his game at Chesterfield and last Saturday and the way Anderson played in the games between when he was injured I would play Anderson in the game at Bromley as the man in form.
-
Wouldn’t surprise me if all 3 played with maxwell and and sterry wing backs

I said exactly this earlier today.
All three CBs might be needed to negate the threat of the big Bromley lads.
I feel it would also make us a bigger attacking threat too.
-
I’d be happy with that too..
-
Depends how good their wide men are and their threat out wide especially if they are speedy, One on one McGrath gets squared up and can be run past without the speed to get back at them.
Given time on the ball, and facing forward high balls he is good, rushed he can be cumbersome and caught on the ball, lots to work on his defensive game and his awareness of closing down space in the area.

Not for me. They play one up top and have very little attacking output. Don’t need 5 defenders against them.

Just 1 foot higher for 54 quid :(

I would expect this to mean more like Sterry and Maxwell getting forward.?

Yep.

I think Big Tom will get the nod tonight and Saturday. Swindon have the big angry brute Harry Smith up top.
-
The games all about opinions, mine is Jay and Joe are by a mile the best pairing, they have an understanding and confidence in each other which when either is missing is disrupted. Joe get's pulled out of position by having to cover Tom's lack of pace. I know Tom's a warrior but he's simply outclassed by the other two for me.

I agree but BR but with the upcoming opposition strikers and Jay playing x2 90mins after an injury I think Tom is good for the next few.

Agreed, but the current chat isn’t about a pairing, it is about the possibility of playing with three CBs for the Bromley match.
-
Anderson has done very well in Jay's absence, and was great against Palace.
Playing 3 at the back with attacking wing backs will give Gibson and Moly much more freedom up top.
I'm not saying we should play gung-ho, but we need to get at teams, score first, and keep at it for 90+ minutes.
-
We need to try and match their height, this game must surely be one for playing Joe Tom and Jay in a back 3.
-
I’d be happy with that too..
Same here, really think this is a game for all 3.
-
Hopefully his and Olowu’s injuries aren’t that bad.
-
Olowu did some very good things in that second half btw. What a cross for Anderson's header from the left wing.
Turning into some player.

Yeah, shame he won’t be here next season.
