Just posted on Twitter his mum passed away suddenly yesterday.
Devastating for him. Regardless of his being our manager he is a genuine top bloke.
I wonder if we can do something for the family, from the fans.
Stay strong gaffer.

Maybe a huge applause in the minute of her age and song for her.
One Val McCann.

My condolonces go out to Grant and the McCann family at this sad time. As BST says, it is one of the worst things that can happen in your life.
-
Suggestion: crowd chant her name and applaud in agreed upon minute and on rovers+ the commentators have a minute silence during that time.

At the risk of sounding insensitive a minute’s silence feels a bit much to me. My deepest condolences to McCann and I can only imagine how difficult it would be, but given it’s not someone directly linked to the Rovers it just doesn’t feel appropriate to me.
-
Yep – All the very best to Grant and the McCanns.
My mum died last Saturday morning and its not nice.

Condolences to Grant and family - hope they have time to grieve and comfort each other...

One Val McCann.
My thoughts on this would be the applause on the appropriate minute but without the song.
The applause thing happens on a regular basis for supporters of the club so why not for someone so important to the manager of the club.

I can see why you would say that but there have been lots of 1 minute silences and / applauses for people not directly connected to Rovers
Ones such as the Southport children , victims of natural disasters and terrible accidents have become common , so I think Mrs McCann can be commemorated as well.

Thoughts and prayers from me.
God bless.

Condolences to Grant and the family.

Sorry for your loss GM.

My mum passed away late last year. Still struggle to adjust to it. Life can be so hard and feel so cruel sometimes. Sad for Grant and all those that have experienced this. Good mums are precious. Mine was amazing.
-
Losing my mum was the most distressing and painful event in my life so far.
Sending my best wishes to Grant and I hope he is bearing up.
-
Thoughts and prayers from my family also Grant. ❤️
-
My Mum passed away the day before my 50th Birthday, opening her card and present was like being in a bubble, RIP Mrs McCann
-
Lost my mam on Mothers Day very nearly three years ago, truly truly awful. She still wanted me to carry on as normal watching Donny.
Went to Shrewsbury away a short time after sat there in the pouring rain 3 nil down. Thought of her & asked myself “ what am I doing here ?”
The sun shone, we scored 3 goals & I cried like a little baby. Thanks mam. ❤️

This is a lovely story in its own way. I can certainly relate.

Agreed.
Been through the same very recently. It hurts as i pass her house everyday but can no longer pop in for a chat.

Are there any plans to show Grant some support at the Carlisle game ?
-
Not heard anything. I kinda hoped the club might take the lead on this as it's a very personal period of grief for Grant so it's hard to know what sort of gesture would be most supportive and respectful.
-
I agree DBR
-
Condolences to Grant and all concerned hope he takes the time he needs and the players can give him some comfort.
-
The best way the players can give Grant any comfort is to beat Carlisle and Walsall comfortably.
-
I’m hoping that this sad event somehow galvanises the squad and gives them more reason to clinch promotion “for the gaffer”.
I’m sure he would appreciate the L2 title.
-
My only thought would be for the supporters to stand when the referee blows for kick off & give a minutes applause for the Gaffer & in celebration of her life & in consolidation of the supporters with him & his family.
Given not all supporters read this forum I don’t know how this or any other gesture could be transmitted at this stage to the rest of the supporters in the stadium.

I keep having little thoughts to myself about how Grant will feel at FT should we get the job done.
Very emotional I would expect.
We are so lucky to have him, the way he has turned our club around generally but also the way he has led us in recent weeks after a tough time personally.
Come on Grant, let’s all do it together for Val!

I agree
Yet there has been some d**kheads on here questioning whether we should sack him a few weeks ago because we were in play offs.
Some proper numptys on here.

That is the part that many people either haven't considered or have discounted. The poor guy lost his Mum seemingly unexpectedly. He's over in England and distanced from his close family. All with the very public pressure of a promotion squeeze at the very end of a season. Some strength to guide us through in the face of that personal turmoil.
-
Playoffs last season, and potentially promotion and in the running to go up as champions.
He’s a great manager isn’t he?
SUPER GRANT MCCANN
-
He’s done it fair play. Not convinced he helped with the subs today but he’s seen us over the line and a good chance for a title
-
Yeah, they were a bit odd. Not sure what he was trying to achieve but to be fair Sharp scored the winning goal and Ennis set him up with a really superb flick on. Guess that is why he is a professional manager.

Worked out in that moment for sure!

Moly went off holding his hamstring so that explains that change.
