Title: DFP Fan’s abuse.
Post by: Usher wide. on April 15, 2025, 09:24:55 am
The Doncaster Free Press is reporting an incident or exchange might be a better description, between Grant & ‘a fan’ in the West Stand who sits directly behind the home dug out after Rovers 1-1 draw with Wimbledon.

Grant says he has no problem with supporters venting their frustrations & apparently this person does so regularly.

However, this time the abuse was ‘of a personal nature’ so Grant reacted verbally.

Given we go second in the table if we win tonight & also given the fact that Grant has only just recently attended his mother’s funeral I think this person is well out of order.

It’s so easy to shout abuse from the ‘safety of your seat’ but I very much doubt they would stand face to face with Grant & repeat their abuse.

IF you’re that person & you happen to be reading this then as Grant said to you, “If you don’t like what you’re seeing (game after game) then don’t come again”.

You won’t be missed.

Are the stewards aware of this? If this so called fan is overstepping the mark then he needs to be removed from the ground.

As manager of the club can't Grant have the player identified and banned? He knows the fan, and at the next game  could have him removed permanently. The ground is private property and should have the right to remove aggressive/offensive individuals.

Stewards are placed in the area for this reason,  to stamp it out if needed,  yet Grant says it's not a one off, hmm? No-one on here witness the "event"?

Grant looks flat at the moment when I have seen his interviews, and with a very obvious good reason behind it. I hope he hasn’t come back too soon.

What goes through the mind of these idiots, same isssue with previous managers who were thoroughly decent blokes but were personally attacked.

I think it is fine to shout not good enough, if it isn’t, but personal stuff is wrong.

I would ban them from the stand for life, but they can sit wherever else they want. It would probably do a favour to all those involved mental healths

So he’s making it up then?
He was asked a question because there’s coverage showing it

I sit right behind the home bench. I heard nothing abusive or of a personal nature. All I heard were several people letting him know the performance wasn't good enough. He was probably he annoyed with me as well as I couldn't hold it in and called Billy an idiot as he walked down the tunnel.

It is not the first time was McCanns quote yesterday,  so whoever is responsible for managing that part of the ground isn't competent then? Strange that no action has been taken previously,  particularly when there are people on here so ready to tell people about their knowledge of events everywhere within the stadium

If a steward did something everytime someone shouted out they’d be taking people Out all the time

I think we all need to take a chill pill. I'm sure if the supporter was breaking the law then the club could and would take action. However if its just criticism, although extreme, then said supporter should be entitled to attend future games.

That’s the problem when you allow people to act like that and call it entitlement we end up with a nasty world.

I really do hate some of our fans at times. As grant said he’s gone through a tough couple of weeks so a little empathy isn’t too much to ask. I just wish if whatever was said was personal that others around this person should have stepped in and put them straight.

As others have said, a win tonight and we’re in a brilliant position, some people need a reality check and definitely have short memories pre grant

There is no place for personal attacks on the staff or players , opinions are always wanted if there about the game but not  when it drifts into the personal . I left immediately after Billy got his marching orders as a supporter of 50 years I felt disgusted and let down  at what he’d done on behalf of his team mates and particularly Rob Street whose place he’d taken . But I couldn’t find the words to be aimed at Billy Sharp or Grant McCann who must have felt my frustration as well . I heard our equaliser from the car park and felt stupid as I’d should have stayed as a supporter but my emotions got the better of me !!

I remember getting hammered by Scunthorpe 4-0 I think in the last game of 1989/90 season. The Rovers fans decided after the third goal that it wasn’t their day so let us just enjoy it. They outsang the home fans applauded the team who actually looked embarassed. They carried on singing after the players had gone off wanting them to take another bow. That was some support, despite the disappointment.
