Title: Gibson
Post by: IDM on April 26, 2025, 09:39:28 pm
Was really up for it today, deserves a thread in his honour.

Folks have said before he doesn’t back track enough to help out, but today, he was back in our corner making tackles.

Didn’t quite have his shooting boots on today, but was excellent nonetheless.

I'd have loved him to score again Bradford seeing as he's a former player for them.

A serious contender for MOM today.
He got better with every ‘boo’ from the City fans.

I was willing him to score, and he came so close more than once.

He’s a bit of an enigma but Grant has backed him this season and he may flourish in League One next season.

He is the epitome of a ‘confidence player’.
He needs to be loved to deliver his best.

Completely agree, the fact he is ex Bradford and they were getting on his back no doubt improved his performance today because he wanted to prove them wrong. If Grant can manage his attitude he’s a good player.

Was superb today. A shame he couldn't put one of those chances away, but was a big part of that performance today.

I gave Gibson a hug in the Sal and told him he'll eat L1 alive next year. He was excellent today.

Gibbo had a very good game today.
I am repeating here what I have been saying about him, that is that he has terrific skills and is very quick.
He isn’t afraid to take on a defender and often leaves them standing ….. but I just wish his shooting was better plus all too often, the final ball.
I’m dearly hoping that the staff will be working on those things because he could well be a big player for us next season.

Was unlucky not to score with the ricochet off the post and keeper, it was a very intelligent run similar to the 1 for his goal last week

Yeah he is a bit of an enigma. Certainly has natural ability and possibly the best with the ball at his feet at the club. Gives the impression with his body language that he is a bit lazy and disinterested, possibly even a tad arrogant on the pitch but actually when my lad was mascot he seemed quite shy and reserved compared to some of the other lads. This certainly comes across in the interview with Hoden as well and he admits he’s often hard on himself and his body language can be misinterpreted that way. Proper shift yesterday.

Said this many times on this forum, he’s where Molly was 2 years ago.
Patience!
This club is making players better, Broadbent the latest. Crew, came back from the Welsh squad ‘not at it’ (quote Grant) and he hadn’t featured for several games… then all of a sudden, Bang! He’s playing like a little Norman Hunter getting right at ‘em, harassing getting the ball and playing nice passes off. Forum loves him now 3 weeks ago folk moaning how poor our loans are.

He’s got tonnes of ability. The way he can receive the ball in tight spaces gives us something different to anyone else in the squad. If we back him and support him he can be a huge player for us.

He’s technically our best footballer. He has the most talent. Does he convert it into output as well as others consistently? No, but he can play.

Scored more goals last season in League One for a very poor side that got relegated, than he has so far this season in League Two. He can perform at League One level. Not so many others in the squad have proved that.

Enjoyed this. Enjoyed them all actually.

He makes a good point when asked about the criticism. We're so lucky to have Molyneux on the other side. Any other winger in League Two will look average when the guy on the other side is hitting 30 goal contributions like it's nothing.

Think we've definitely needed a bit of perspective with Gibson. Molyneux has had a monster of a season. One he might never have again. Gibson's done well. He's a League one/two winger - he's going to be frustrating, they all are.

Just out of interest Gaz, do you have any names you think we should be looking to sign for next season that are likely to be within our budget?

Gibson gets a lot of unnecessary flack in my opinion. You can see what he is trying to do and he has never deviated from that. He is a couple of small tweaks away from becoming a very good player.
He takes responsibility with the ball amd tries to do something with it. He just needs to improve his final ball and finishing ability and he will be some player.

Gibson and Molyneux were both in the Sal and very unassuming not awestruck kind of lads.
Sort of quite reserved really and just nice! It was smashing to meet em.

Grant obviously has a great deal of belief in Jordan and I'm sure they will be working hard with him in pre season to iron out some of his poor decision making. He could be a big player for us next season.

He has football skills - it's just a footballing brain that he is lacking...

Gibson strikes me as the sort of player that needs an arm around the shoulder/to know people believe in him. Everyone singing his name to his face in the Sal will have done him a world of good.

He’s definately not the finished product and there’s room for improvement. Mols, by comparison, has worked really hard to improve his game.

I think this is one area of the team that we will strengthen.

I think he'll kick on next season, he's looked bright and improved with the team at the end of the season.

He also composed himself well on Saturday, he was getting dogs abuse from the Bradford fans including the chant 'you're Dad's a c**t, and so are you' when he was in the corners. He used it to motivate himself and could see from the reaction to the red card he was pumped up!

Moly took a season or so to grow in to his game here, give Gibson the same and he'll be a big player for us.

I'd disagree with that. He gets into some fantastic positions and his awareness and movement when he's got players around him is really good... perhaps the best in the squad as others have said. I think sometimes it's just the composure when it comes to the final shot/cross/pass that needs work. He was bang at it on Saturday though and hopefully kicks on next season.

At the match, I couldn't make out what some of the City fans were singing at Gibbo when he went over to take a corner.
I've since watched a Vlog by a City fan and it's clear.

"Your Dad's a c**t, and so are you".

Nice.

Hard for anyone not to be affected by that sort of chant Dave but he seemed to revel in being booed didn't he? Certainly one of his better performances and he came so close to scoring.

One contributor on the Bantams forum said Gibson had no class, but to be fair he was immediately shouted down by several other posters who said it was some of the City fans who showed no class. They also pointed out that Gibbo could have celebrated our goal in front of the City fans but he didn't.

I do think that he was fired up though after stick in previous games against City. He did celebrate his winner for Carlisle in the play offs 2 years ago right in front of the City fans which wound them up.
Most City fans that I know say that he had a lot of skill but was inconsistent for them. Maybe with us and Grant he will gain in confidence and deliver on a more regular basis.

Nice.

I'm a South Stand ST holder, Pancho, but couldn't get tickets there for my daughter and grandson, so we all had to go in the East Stand.

We were up in the NE corner, so had a perfect view of Rob's goal, and TSL's penalty save. We also heard clearly the City fans' disgusting chant to Jordan.

We got our own back though. When Billy scored, there was a mass exodus of their fans. They departed listening to the chant, to the tune of Tom Hark, "You've seen the Rovers, now f*ck off home, you've seen the Rovers, now f*ck off home".

He who laughs last, and all that.

I’m sure that when Street headed our first goal that Gibbo chose to run behind the net before joining the lads to celebrate in front of the Rovers fans.
