Just set up Orient's first goal in the decider at Stockport.

I bet he leaves Leyton Orient at the end of the season

The game's been played at such a frantic pace, it's hard to decipher who has more quality, but Orient appear to be slightly better. Some nostalgia for Wellens going on as well.

Wellens has converted him into a wing back. He's been a bit of a revelation there from what I've seen and heard.

Wellens has preferred to play a back 4 this season and he’s played as a conventional right back as well. He’s such a good player.

If you remember he often covered RB while with us and although I thought he was a good CM at the early stage of his career, he always impressed me more as a RB.

Best of luck to him.

Scored the winning penalty as well. Quite a night shift for the lad.

Thought he started off well with us before tailing off. Been great for them by all accounts, though.

Wellen's is a shit manager!
Makes you wonder how things would have turned out, if David Blunt had left and TB was Chair when Richie was our manager

Galbraith took the deciding penalty too, contrats to him and Richie.

I think most level-headed people knew that Wellens was on a hiding to nothing here. It didn't help that some didn't want him here in the first place because they didn't think he was a nice enough man for the job.

Maybe now they will realise that being nice isn't a job!

And maybe another angle is that some people wanted him at Rovers because he was a very very good player for us especially in his first spell

Yep, and because he led Swindon Town to the League Two title in 2019-20, and also won the EFL Trophy with Salford City in 2020.

Interesting in his post match press conference after the final game of the regular season at Huddersfield, Wellens said that Ethan is the best midfielder in league one. He also couldn’t help taking a pot shot at Salford saying it’s their fault they are still stuck in league 2 and they wouldn’t be if they had not sacked me, or Alexander.

The Swindon title win was in the season that wasn’t completed, and winning the cup with Salford wasn’t that a carry over season when they had reached the final when he took over. I’m not saying he’s not a good manager but I doubt he’ll ever get a top job because he’s very abrasive.

Yes, he should be the Mother Teresa type, like Alex Ferguson.

Pleased for Richie. Proved to be a good manager. I prefer Grant though.

Ferguson was very lucky he got out when he did from memory his last match ended 5-5 ?  Football was entering the" Though Shall Not Tackle" Era

and football as we once knew it ended  :crying: :crying: :crying:

Same here, there's different ways of doing things, Grant every time please.

Think this just proves that Wellens was here at the wrong time, give him enough backing (which clearly he didnt get here) and he will do well. As others have said though prefer McCann all day.

Yes, things aren't as black or white as people tend to make out.

If Wellens and McCann were to reverse their stints with us, with the same resources available, would things have worked out much different?

Managing a football club is damned hard. Wellens was unlucky with injuries which made things infinitely harder. Under that same pressure, every decision is magnified and scrutinised. I'm not sure how McCann would have dealt with the Bogle and Willlians situation, or indeed whether he would have allowed it to happen. Wellens, McSheffrey and Schofield all felt the wrath from sections of the fanbase when the job was hard enough anyway, sometimes going over the top with personal abuse.

Conversely, had Wellens stepped in, as McCann did, when TB stepped up, he would have had a better chance of succeeding. That said, would Wellens have built the same relationship and trust with TB?

Probably, both are better managers than they were 4 or 5 years ago

Got a very good move. Off to Swansea City in £1.5m deal. Good result for him and Orient.
