Salford ? Great servant, and was an absolute giant with our run in ! We move on !
-
Looks like we will have a total new spine to the team, I wonder if this is what Grant wanted.
-
I didn’t really expect him to be offered a new deal, so in my eyes no big loss, he probably didn’t expect it either so got himself fixed up
-
Big opportunity for young Bobby to step up here as our physical ball winning centre half option. Assuming he signs on the dotted line, of course.
As for big Tom, he's been a great servant and has been written off before bouncing back to prove the doubters wrong so many times, but I think most would agree the time is right to move him on. He's probably on decent money and we can do better for league one. All the best to him though, clearly he's still got what it takes for league two.

If Bobby couldn’t get a game in league 2 what makes you think Grant will fancy him in league 1?
-
Agree with what's being said on both threads, great servant, good luck Big Tom.
-
I think he’s been a colossus in the last two run ins, I honestly thought we would keep him. Some are saying his legs have gone, but he never had pace to lose.
I hope Bobby F can step up, but without playing at league 2 level and being loaned out to non league, it wouldn’t seem logical he steps into a league one team, I can only see an new guy coming in.
Exciting times but I’m nervous how quickly they will gel

Daft old comment.

Why?
Because you don’t agree?

No. It's the 'no big loss' part. Just disrespectful after the service he's given to the club, and just naive to think you replace players like that, willy nilly.

Don’t know how to delete this, as there is another post on this topic. Don’t know if any mods can do it?

I said it's an opportunity for him, not that he'd immediately become first choice. If he's improved after getting some games under his belt he has an opportunity to stake his claim and move up the pecking order in pre season, and prove to McCann that hes worth the shirt. Who's to say he won't just as Mcgrath did this season?
-
Signed for Shrewsbury on a two year deal

We will still need two higher quality centre halves now this will be interesting let’s hope we don’t have the same problem we had last time in league 1 getting the right quality.

Probably offered the aptaincy aswell.

Makes no sense unless he just wanted a change of scenery

You missed the context of what I wrote, but I’ll explain
I said I didn’t expect him to get offered a new deal, so in that context, for me, it’s no big loss
-
GIf Shrewsbury see him as the man they want as a leader for a promotion push and Grant sees him as backup to the centre halves he sees coming in to play in League One, it makes perfect sense.
Been a great servant to the club, all the best for the future!

I think your on your own with that one !! Tom has been ever present and has been more than loyal to the club but Grant offered him below his worth . McCann has a track record of player poor negotiations.. seven players gone from the squad now .

How do you know he was offered below his worth?

He would have stayed otherwise as he over the club !! McCann has never appreciated the value of a player only his own influence he has over them !! Danny Andrew’s come to mind !!
-
Seven players gone.?
Discounting loanees which aren’t ours, there’s 2 rejected contracts, and Wood retired.
As someone asked, you got proof what we offered Tom.?
-
All the best Tom, you were a colossus at the end of this season and deserved a champions medal. League one maybe a step too far at this stage of your career? All the best of luck for the next challenge in your career. :rtid:
-
Thanks for stepping into the breech so many times this season Tom when it looked like Joe Olowu & Jay were the ‘go to’ centre back pairing.
You’re right up there with the likes of the Rob Jones of this club for me.
Enjoy your new challenge & thanks for the memories.

Andrew was going to sign after his holidays he told the club, then went elswhere

So that’s Woody,Tom and Olowu ! On a positive note grants got a real opportunity to shape the centre half positions and personnel to exactly as he desires !!
-
All the Very Very Best Tom.
-
Good luck Tom, you have been a hero so many times in the past 7 years, I hope you have success at Shrewsbury and enjoy your new challenge.

Depends on the budget constraints, surely?

No big loss ? Have you ever kicked a football. A great defender and a much better header of a ball than golden boy who has refused a contract.
Good luck Tom you’ve been a great servant to the club and the supporters.

An assertion made without evidence can (and should) be dismissed without evdence.

PS. Hitchens Razor if anybody is interested.

Another one that doesn’t see the context in what I posted

I must admit Filo i had the same opinion about Christmas about Tom and Wood as they were fighting for fitness and were nowhere near the first team.
Toms swan song I think surprised most of the supporters and people at the club, one of our stand out players for those last games and changed most peoples view.
Could be we should have kept him this coming season but at 31 and potentially three years, two years written in stone and knowing we will try to strengthen he had to at least consider it and make a choice that suited him.
